Ogunleye wants Taylor-like money

If he stays on pace and gets 14+ sacks this year there will be some team out there willing to part with thier first round pick. Ogun isnt going to get a long term deal from the dolphins. There is a reason David Bowens was signed for 3 years. With him and Jay and Lamanzer Williams, thats more than enough DEs.

I say pay no more than $4 Mil a year to Ogun and if he wants more he will have to leave. As much as I would like to have him sign with the Dolphins, it is about time we get some Offensive talent for the money. He is one of the top young DEs in the league but enough is enough.
J. Taylor with his double teaming and attention does the same as R. Williams does to our passing game except we have not taken advantage of it until Griese came in Monday night. We will see if it continues. O-gun has grabbed the opportunity and is making the most of it. Good for him and good for us.

Everyone has to remember this is not the same D as last year they are doing a lot more zone and that includes Taylor. I saw him a few times get out to the flats to cover tomlinson. I don't remember O-gun doing to much of that. Also i saw taylor do his job and flush tomlinson to the inside by containing and then he would get by the person guarding hims and make the tackle. They know that defenses are focusing on him and they are using that. O-gun is a product of JT sucsess!!!

Just a little reminder to some of you.

Trace looked pretty good in a Miami uniform opposite Taylor too.

Kenny Mixon and Lorenzo Bromell shared the duties opposite Taylor and didn't look bad either.

They all got big contracts. They all were disappointments to their respective teams except Kenny Mixon looks like he's finally showing some "heart".

Difference is Trace just was third down specialist and he was fresh for every play he was in the game which benefit him.Mixon and Brommel combo was very average.

Now Ogunleye is a player.Who has the most tackles in defensive line?Team are now starting to double team Ogun and he still producing.I'm not saying he needs to get pay like J.Taylor but he deserve a contract around 3.5-4 mil range with medium size signing bonus.

Well, I've been watching Taylor struggle all year. Monday was the first game I got to attend and paid special attentiont to our DE's to see what was wrong with Taylor.

You know what?? The Chargers double-teamed Ogun more often than they doubled Taylor. Taylor often was being "chipped" by a RB/FB or TE on their way out into the flats, but Ogun was seeing TRUE double-teams and BEATING them. For whatever reason, whether its more focus on stopping screens and the running game or not, Taylor is not playing with the same intensity he did last year.

Teams are starting to notice O-gun is the one making plays and are directing more attention at him. Hopefully this will open up Taylor for more plays. But, all the... "It's only because JT is being double-teamed" comments are a little overblown. EARLY in the season Taylor was seeing double and triple teams, but lately defenses are singling up on him and he is still not making big plays. He is holding his own ESPECIALLY in the running game, but he is not giving the same pass-rush as he did last year.

O-gun is NOT another Mixon or Bromell... he is the real deal. But, I don't know if he will get the big contract THIS year. Miami will definitely tender him the 1st-round RFA tender, and any team that wishes to sign him will have to give us first-match rights and a first-round pick. I don't know if teams will be willing to do that. But, most likely SOMEONE will.

You're pretty smart sometimes, Groove.

Well six year deal is what he asking to stay with us. That means either his asking of 6-7 or us giving him 3-4? I don't know what Spielman would have to do to make that feasible.

Let him go for a 1st, and if he gets over 14 believe me somone will give a 1st and 3rd. Williams, L Williams, Grisby, and a rookie(mid-rounder) would do the job quite well.

Williams and L Williams both could possibly share the starting job on run downs and Grisby and a pass specialist rookie could do the other job.

No one will give a 1st and a 3rd for Ogunleye. I doubt someone will even give a 1st unless they need DE help and have a late pick, and this would only be the case if Ogunleye gets around 12 sacks this year.

He should be tendered a first, and if someone bites, we will be very lucky. If no one bites, we can either try to resign him or trade him and get some good picks.

Ummm no actually we could get a 1st right now. The best DE is expected to go mid 1st right now. This year there is no Terell Suggs.

They wouldn't give a 1st for someone who is 26 and is expected to get 15 sacks? They will give a 1st and a 3 possibly, but the 1st easily.

No one will sign him as a RFA if he wants "Taylor" money and also have to give up a #1 and possibly #3. Miami needs to play hardball on these negotiations because O-Gun clearly takes advantage of the talent around him and his future compensation should reflect that of a complimentary player ($3-4 million/yr) not that of a superstar ($6-7 million/yr)

There is always a team desperate for d-line help that will take that risk that perhaps he can keep growing into that type of player. Remember before his massive injury most had him pegged as a first rounder.

Lets not forget that Ogun plays the run real well which defensive coordinators LOVE.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was almost signed as an RFA to a massive deal by Philly and he's only a part time passing downs player as he is weak to the run.

If they only put the 1st round tag on him someone will bite. The best thing is that another team does the negotiating for the phins while the phins decide whether to match or take the 1st rounder.

Jason Taylor was the leader in sacks last year, he is the best DE in the NFL, without a doubt. He has been getting doubled and is still making plays, am I the only one who watched him get a safety?

Taylor is still a great player and anyone who doesn't believe that is a stat whore.

When teams face us their entire o-line is geared to stop J.T. Despite this he still has 2.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles and opens it up so much that even Bowens has a sack this year and Zgonina/Bowens/Ogunleye will get solo cover. Bowens is almost looking like he's having fun out there this year cause he's not getting the double teams as much as he used to. Those are reserved for Taylor. Bowens/Zgonina/Chester are going to roll up more sacks then we've had in YEARS from the DT position. If Ogun keeps rolling up sacks people will be forced to not double J.T as much.

Rob Burnett did most of the work on that play. He sacked Brees and forced the fumble. Taylor simply touched the offensive lineman who had fallen on the ball in the endzone.

But I agree that JT is still a great player.

I'm not disputing that he is good player. I'm just making the argument against our minute remaining cap dollars going to that player.

Please. I'm begging. Throw some money at the offense.

He'll be tendered, and if no one bites, his contract will get extended after July 15th (or close to it). Thats how the CBA is written up. If we tender him and he stays with us, we can't negotiate with him until after mid July.

And who knows, we may pull one on him like we did Surtain and give him a lower contract with more guaranteed money, if they get it done before the year is out.
