Ogunleye wants Taylor-like money

The July 15 date is for Franchise Player designation purposes. If the F.P. is tendered and signed after 7/15 then the designation is only for the current year rather than the length of the contract.

A RFA that is tendered can negotiate with any team for the singing period which is 60 days starting approximately March 1st. If the tender is extented after this period the RFA can only negotiate with the club holding his rights until the 10th week of the season. If he doesn't sign by then he does not play for the season.

Ogunleye will be tendered as it will be approximately $1.5M for a first round pick and $2M for a first and a third. He will not be going anywhere without draft pick compensation.

No one will be pulling anything over on Ogunleye as his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. IMO Ogun will be tendered, the Dolphins will low ball as usual and Rosenhaus will wait for the signing period to generate the highest market amount available. Then he will negotiate and sign quickly if the Dolphins are near the same money or wait for them to come to their senses. Unless of course there is an outrageous ooffer and the Fins do not want to match.

Rosenhaus is a very good agent and will probably try to keep Ogun with the Dolphins. He always seems to get his clients into good situations for them and Ogun is a good fit here. Only time will tell.

From PFT this morning......

ROSENHAUS DISSED FOR OGUNLEYE REMARKS

We mentioned in a One-Liner earlier this week that agent Drew Rosenhaus hopes to secure "Jason Taylor-type" money for Dolphins defensive end Adewale Ogunleye.

Taylor has a six-year, $42 million contract. Ogunleye is making $375,000 as an exclusive rights free agent.

A high-ranking league insider who noticed the blurb told us that Drew "doesn't he understand how much he hurts his players league wide when he makes statements like this," which overstate grossly the guy's real value.

"Sure he has sacks," said the source, "but Taylor brings more than sacks to the table. Part of Ogunleye's success is because Taylor is on the other side."

The source's advice to the Fins: "Buyer beware. . . . Remember Chad Bratzke when he played opposite Michael Strahan? He has been just another guy since he left New York."

Another source told us that, indeed, the word around the league on Ogunleye is that he's "just a guy," and that he'll never get a $42 million package in Miami, or elsewhere.

Back to Drew, we like how he fights to get the best deals for his clients. We really do. But most players and many agents don't seem to realize the importance of credibility. When an agent huffs and puffs about a guy like Ogunleye, similar statements regarding another client of the same agent will be met initially with skepticism, no matter how talented the guy is.

It's called "human nature," and from our perspective not enough folks in the NFL bidness have a sufficient understanding of it.

So there goes Ogunleye then....JT really has to pick it up though, he has not odne much this year pass rush wise.

Doesn't PFT say something negative and disingenuous about everybody??? The early contract rhetoric should surprise no one as the art of negotiation is to always start high. We have previous actions with players like Bowens, Konrad and Zach Thomas. Next year we have two players that have to be resigned, Todd Wade and Ogunleye. Both have agents with reputations for getting excellent contracts, both have said they want outrageous contract amounts, lets see how it turns out.

You are absolutely correct. I just couldn't believe I read something about the Phins on their page. I guess that's a good thing (never seeing us there). But the main reason I posted it was for what their source said.
