Older Dolphin fans

I'm 49.....Been a Dolphin fan since 1970.....How many other Dolphin fans here around
my age, considering what our team has done the last decade, are starting to have that
sickning feeling,we might NEVER see another SuperBowl win?

ditto. 49 also.

I'm 59 and have been there from the start 1966... Lived in NY till I was 50 and have an older brother who is a huge jets fan. I was glad to get out of that state so I did'nt have to here about those freaken jets anymore. I still have hope that I will see one more Super Bowl, but at least I have seen them win a few already, not everyone can say that about their teams.

yesterday
the dolphins troubles seemed so far away
now i need a place to hide away
oh i believe in yesterday
suddenly we're not half the team we used to be
get our ass kicked by tom brady
oh how i long for yesterday

Namor, you got me to de-lurk. I'm 57 and have been a Dolphin fan since 1970. I was a paper girl for the Miami Herald and used to have the honor of having Larry Csonka as a customer. Those were happier days. I still have hope that we will get it right eventually. However the Dolphins do break my heart each year.

Well,Charyl...Let me be the first to ask you not to just lurk...join in on the talks..I'm sure you have great insight.
Plus, it's like group therapy...there are a few knotheads here, but there lovable....

I'll be 52 on the 22nd of November. Two of my worst memories (other than the SB losses to the 'skins and 49ers, was the "sea of hands" against the raiders, and that damn missed FG against the chargers in the playoffs. I have hope that we will just GET to a SB sometime soon...let alone win one. I'm beginning to understand how Cubs fans feel! But then again, the game has changed a little too much for me...I have a hard time getting into all the players now feeling like they really did something every time they make a 1st down...miss the good ol days when you just went back to the huddle. Hell, I don't jump up and down and raise my hands in the air and whoop it up every time I punch out at work....I just did my damn job. These guys should act the same way...celebrate after you win the damn game.

Well said!!! It is getting tough watching all these "look how great I am" people playing a simple game. I'm still reminded of Joe Pa's quote "Act like you've been there" (or at least I thought Joe Pa said it).

I am your age and I feel we will never see any serious changes until we get out of Miami.

That is our number 1 problem. Because the market sucks for whatever reason. People will not show up even if we win on reg. basis. They buy tickets to sell. thats all you need to know. A new regime wont change that.

I won't say how old I am, but I'll say that I cried my eyes out begging Don Strock to bring us back from behind in the second half of the '82 Super Bowl against the Redskins. ;)

Or hoping, praying that the batted pass from Theisman would wind up in Baumhowers hands in the endzone. I still change the channel when they show that clip of Riggins breaking free from McNeal. My how that game hurt.

I'm 52, Shula fan first, then followed him to Miami when he left the Colts. Remember wearing all my Dolphins tees and sweats to school every year. Remember the three straight sbs and know there would have been more if not for Czonka, Kiick, and Warfield jumping ship to the WFL. I would still rather watch old film of Zonk running the ball than live games today. Miss Joe Robbie, Shula, Orange Bowl, Marino and all the exciting games even if we lost.

I doubt anyone has had it worse than me when it comes to being a Dolphins fan. Some of you older ones at least remember the SB victories. My earliest memory was as a 6 year old in December of 1974 when Miami suffered maybe the most devastating loss ever, the playoff game to Oakland in the waning seconds that kept them from probably going to their fourth straight SB. And it was also the last game that Csonka, Kiick and Warfield played before leaving for the WFL.

I remember crying after the loss and my mom letting me open an early Christmas present....it turned out to be a Dolphins toboggan. So I cried after the first Fin game I ever remember watching and I've been crying for forty years since. :-)

I'm not an older fan, but the last time the Dolphins played in a SB was 4 months before I was born. I was a fan throughout my childhood, but I first time I became a hardcore fan was when the Dolphins acquired Ricky Williams. I really believed after watching the first couple games that year that the team was special, having been a playoff team with one of the worst running games in the league and having acquired a big time RB. Coincidentally, that was the beginning of the rut we've been in for more than a decade, and only once as a hardcore fan have I experienced any sort of real success at all by making the playoffs in 2008.

I'll be 43 tomorrow. Been a fan since 1977. AJ Duhe was rookie defensive player of year! Awesome LB #77! I have never wavered in my devotion to the Dolphins. I just want one SB win. Seen them lose twice. Go Dolphins
