Omar: South Florida has some of the worst sports fans in the nation

To those of you bashing the locals (I'm looking at Nublar and Jersey fins fan) How are you any different from the people down here? Neither of you is supporting your own local teams and you're bashing people that do the same. It's called hypocracy.

Im actually a little concerned that this whole topic turned into an Omar bashing thread. He makes a valid point, and everyone turns around and apparantly its his fault that fans arent coming to the games. People say "I dont pay attention to Omar." Well thats fine. You dont have to pay attention to him. When you watch the games, just look around.

Game's sold out officially...

Are we the only area with this many transplants from Chicago, Philly, New York, and Boston?

Any other areas of the country like this? I can't think of any...

Here's another example of a team who's been below average at best the past 10 years:

http://prod.www.lions.clubs.nfl.com...-an-hour/270ca8dc-5983-42d2-9ed7-7d71adbc4891

You see what happens when you give the fans ANY hope that things are going to be different and that there is change coming? This team couldn't give tickets away 2-3 years ago, no one would show up to go watch the **** Lions.

Now they are selling out games.

Until the Dolphins show something to get excited about then it will be the same for Miami and the fans. It's been this way for every team that has struggled since the beginning of the league. Stop trying to single out Miami citizens when other cities have had it worst. You guys forget how **** the Cardinals used to be or the Saints and how no one would go to those games before.

Come up here to Orlando on game day and go to any bar in the area and you will see every bar completely dominated by Dolphin fans. So much so that opposing teams fans would not so much as make a peep about the Dolphins, and the owners of these bars know exactly what their best TV's should be showing. I Know a guys who painted his house Dolphin colors. I went to a bar in South Carolina on Sunday hoping to see the Dolphins and we were like why the hell are you not showing the Phins. There were so many of us that we forced them to put the game on their best TV. The Dolphins have a huge and loyal fan base but they are not based so much in Miami and there are tons of North Easterners down here living. I wish they would all go home but of course Florida is a better place to live than where they are from. I want to get a bumper sticker that says go back to New York. Florida is a much better place to live than New York. You don't see us moving up there for a reason.

Guess they better focus on putting together a winning team for once then. they clearly don't understand the market. All the whining in the world won't change that. This topic is a dead horse. those that don't grasp why need to take some business courses.

And omar is just bitter because those fans know he's a ****ty writer.

Lions fans have had it bad, but I still don't agree with the fans who didn't support the team during their struggles and all a sudden now want to support that team. To me thats a fair weather fan.

I'd totally understand if you didn't want to support a team because the owner was trying to move the team(Sacramento Kings around my area) or if they had other primary objectives rather than winning ( LA Clippers and Cincy Bengals). But to not show support for a team that is spending money and trying to be good is wrong IMO. We may not agree with the decisions that are being made by them but we shouldn't withdraw our support for them either.

Here is a link to last year's attendance numbers, I think the PCT. of capacity is what matters IMO but I'm open to disagreements.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance/_/year/2010

We were 7-9 last year and filled up 90% capacity. We ranked 26th out of the league in capacity percentage. The Bengals and Panthers ranked ahead of us. That just sucks. Again I'm not calling anyone out individually, and I understand that nationally the Dolphins have great fans, but the locally we are definately at the bottom of the league in showing support.

And that's exactly what MOST fans of ANY team are: fair-weather. The problem is, people are assuming every fan is a diehard finheavener. That is simply not the case. I know our member count is high, but most are just average, everyday football fans. They go to a game when the can and if it's worth their time and money. THAT is the market the team needs to target. That's where the sellouts come from.

In Miami (vs. Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, etc.) the team is competing with a LOT of other things to do on a Sunday. You better give them a goddamn good reason for getting out there and spending a ton of money. Mediocrity isn't going to cut it, and that's exactly what this team has been. Even when they were "competing" in the Wanny years, it was a boring mediocre product that never actually had a chance to win anything (because they never got a ****ing QB...). Sure, the economy has some effect, but it's mostly competition.

So yes, Miami sports fans are "fickle" and "fair-weather." ****ing get over it. That's the market. That's the way it is. They need to cater to it, not the reverse (threatening blackouts won't work). As a successful businessman, I'm shocked Ross doesn't get this. It's pretty basic.

Of course, this is discussed every single year and every single time a game isn't sold out, yet some don't seem to grasp it and want to whine about how "bad" the local fans are. Get over it.

Ummm... has everyone failed to realize that the last time we didn't sell out a home game was in October 1998? We broke 100 straight sell outs last year... And ever think they are pumping crowd noise in practice bc... maybe, just maybe... therell be some crowd noise when you play in a full stadium which they haven't done since last year? I suppose you guys suggest we play one big 70 something thousand person mum game whilst miami has the ball.

The Dolphins have declared Monday night’s season-opener against the New England Patriots a sellout, ensuring their 102 nd consecutive regular-season game at Sun Life Stadium will be televised.

Not bad for fickled Miami fans . Now let's kick some Brandy bunch azz.

Nubs and co., why do you waste your time with these debates? The So Florida fanbase is garbage, plain and simple. We hear the excuses and the spin: economy, we haven't won a playoff game in 10 years, winning seasons, transplants, out of towners shouldnt talk, blah, blah, blah. Here's a fact: I lived in Miami for 10 years and witnessed first hand how weak the fanbase is. Living in NY, I get so jealous of how hardcore these fans are. There is something like a 5 year waiting list for Giants season tickets. It's so coveted, they are passed down for generations, and it's been like that for years. Ok, this is NY, but when you look at teams like KC or Oakland you shake your head. Miami is a whole diff animal, trust me, I've experienced both. It's sad, but hey, c'est la vie.

Anyhow, I'll be at the Jets/Dolphins MNF game in the meadowlands. Wanna know how much I payed for those tickets??? You guys in Miami don't know how good and cheap you have it.

Also, the Dolphins have been pumping crowd noise into practices this week to prepare for a HOME GAME. That is how bad they view the fan base, they expect the stadium to be full of Patriots fans. I have been saying this has been a problem for years but just get told "It's the economy", "Fans won't show up because they don't always win", "Everyone is a transplant", blah blah blah.

Might have taken some time, but local sports writers and even the Dolphins themselves are acknowledging the problems that have realistically been going on for over a decade. Don't give me, "if they win the fans will come", we know that is not the case because of the poor attendance when the team is in the playoff hunt and that playoff games don't always sell out. Not to mention the large amount of opposing fans that show up.
yea......thats how you get some fans on yoru side.....

Anyone ever ask him a question on twitter? The guy gives a bum-like response every time. Also this is coming from a beat writer that is paid to write about the team, yet he continues to bash them. He bashes Henne all the time on there, n now attacks the fan base that gets him paid? Fire this fool, it would be the 2nd best move since removing Henning.
