I can see it now. The first time Morlon makes a really boneheaded move the fans will be holding "Moron Greenwood" signs.

If we roster 9 DBs, which we tend to do when we're keepin some projects around, then I think Omare Lowe makes the team. Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Arturo Freeman, Brock Marion, and Jamar Fletcher being the 5 main guys. The next four would be Shawn Wooden, Trent Gamble, Ray Green, and probably Omare Lowe.

Delvin Brown only had one good game in NFL Europe, and I truly believe that no matter HOW Scott Shields ended up doing over there, Wannstedt would rather keep a Wannstedt draftee around than a guy thats been kicked around the league and had to go to Europe to play (and will already be exhausted when he comes back to training camp and whatnot).

Hmm you think so? It would seem a lock cuz of how well he played last year, but you gotta remember that last year he pretty much was taking Trent Gambles place as our excellent flyer on punt coverage. Gamble is now back, and remember Gamble could consistently beat TRIPLE TEAMS as a flyer (which personally I've never seen). If its a matter of Trent Gamble vs Scott McGarrahan I think Gamble wins long as he's not lame after the injury, cuz he can contribute as a dime defensive guy (he's great with TEs).

If its a matter of Scott McGarrahan vs Omare Lowe, given Gamble's presence, if Lowe shows even a glimmer of talent on special teams I still give the nod to Lowe. Ya gotta understand how much Dave Wannstedt loves his own draftees. He gets genuinely pissed off if one of them doesn't make the team. Like when Rick Crowell held out for a bunch of time cuz of like a $5,000 difference in signing bonus negotiations and then never got the D down so we cut him. Wanny was pissed bout that. 7th round picks are different I guess.

I dunno I could be wrong. But I just tend to think that if Gamble is back to form then the brass will think they can afford to sacrifice a little special teams prowess for upside.

Thanks for the Scoop DCH!

OCD.....:D

Here is some information I found posted on the "Draftbook" about Omare Lowe. I have never seen him play, but am in favor of giving a guy a chance that has some upside. We kind of know what Shields is about, but since we are deep at DB's I would like to see us keep Lowe around (as long as he is showing a little something), who know's he could surprise!

:) :D :)

Omare Lowe
Cornerback
Washington

Pro Football Weekly
Notes: Had an extremly difficult childhood. Option quarterback in high school who was a hurdles champion in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles. Redshirted in 1997 while moving to the secondary. Played in nine games and started once in '98. Was suspended for the '99 opener after allegedly being involved in a fraternity fight but played in every other game and started twice. Started every game at cornerback in 2000 and the first 10 games in '01 but saw very limited action in the regular-season finale because of a shoulder injury. Had 10 tackles, three passes broken up and one interception in 1998; 20-3-1 in '99, when he was often the fifth defensive back; 30-9-2 in 2000; and 40-9-1 in '01, when he was the key player in Washington's big win over Michigan. In that game, he blocked a punt that resulted in a touchdown and returned an interception 21 yards for a second touchdown as Washington came from behind to win 23-18 after trailing early in the fourth quarter. Positives: Has excellent size for a cornerback. Uses his size well. Can read and react. Has a pretty good feel for coverage cushion. Has gotten a lot tougher and really improved his tackling. Can and has played safety. Negatives: Has marginal speed for a corner. Will struggle with man-on-man coverage, especially when he is backed off. Is not sudden. Lacks catch-up speed. Has a high, upright backpedal. Will drop some balls he should have intercepted. Is not a big hitter or great tackler for a safety candidate. Summary: Has marginal speed and movement skills for corner. Will not be able to play outside on a regular basis in the NFL unless the team he goes to is a zone-oriented team. Could move inside if he continues to improve tackling and hitting.

TSN
Overall: 6.8
Strengths: Has outstanding size for a corner. Is a ballhawk-type corner that might be better in space than in man-to-man. Has also played safety. Has a real nose for the ball and excellent ball skills. Takes good angles and makes plays on the ball in the air. Has very good leaping ability and is physical -- uses body to defend. Also strong against the run.Weaknesses: Does not have great feet. Is a bit stiff -- might be better off as a safety. Does not have great speed and gets turned around occasionally. Does not show great man-to-man coverage skills, is better in space.Bottom line: Lowe is a bit of a "tweener" who has played some safety, but has been more successful at cornerback. He has excellent size and a nose for the ball, but his feet are not great and he is probably better off in zone coverages. Lowe needs to improve his man-to-man coverage skills and prove that he can play on an island as a senior.

TFY
Omare Lowe will get late round consideration as the senior is a hard-nosed cover man with speed and nice break on the ball but must improve his corner instincts.

Joel Buchsbaum
Washington’s Omare Lowe had a monster game vs. Michigan early in the season, but he really has only average man-on-man coverage skills and speed for an NFL corner. With his ball skills and range, he could be a better fit inside, though he does not have the killer instinct of a safety.

Omare Lowe (6'0, 203, #12) is an excellent athlete, but has never been able to fully translate those skills onto the gridiron with any consistency.

Yes McGarrahan is a lock on this team and is penciled in as a backup safety. The phins committed to him this offseason with a 3 year contract.

Isn't that an oxy moron? He's a lock to make the team, yet he's penciled in as a back up safety?

Two things I see happening.

1-Leonard Henry will beat out Robert Edwards as the #3 HB. It will save us very little money($75,000) but the major factors in this are Edwards past health & the length of the two contracts. Edwards has a 1 year deal, Henry's will be 3 or 4 years.

2-Casey Roussel will be our punter. He was the 2nd highest rated punter on most boards in the draft, & the move will save us more than a half a million cap room. A punter is a punter. It's a position that's been a revolving door since the end of the Roby days. Roussel signed for 2 years, Royals 1. Lets give Roussel a chance & spend that half mill a little more wiser.

"& the move will save us more than a half a million cap room"

If I'm not mistaken, Royals was given a one year 750k veteran minimum contract, which means only 440k counts against the cap. How could using roussel save us over a half mil?

They don't give 3 year contracts out to special teamers unless they plan on keeping them there and making them the backup at the position ala Izzo. So yes he is a "lock" to make the team. There is no oxymoron there.

Crap forgot about that for a second. The move will save Huizenga a half mill, & save the Fins 215k.
