OTA #1 Updates

We can see tangible evidence of talent in Tannehill

really skape? i guess you didnt see the reports of his first day of this season.................... .

Ryan Tannehill overthrows an open Mike Wallace during 7-on-7. [Where have we seen this before?]
Ryan Tannehill holds onto the ball too long during 7-on-7, scrambles
Tannehill overthrows Wallace on deep route.
Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill goes deep for Mike Wallace on 7-on-7...But the ball is overthrown.
Jamar Taylor drops an interception on a Tannehill pass. He jumped the route to Wallace.
Philip Wheeler breaks up a Tannehill pass to Charles Clay, which was telegraphed.
Cortland Finnegan drops a possible interception on Tannehill. Ball was thrown behind his receiver.
Towards the end of practice, Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill throws a pick to CB Cortland Finnegan.
The Dolphins conclude practice. OUCH!!!

and if your coming back with any "you are just picking out the mistakes and not the good plays", well, there WERE NOT ANY!! moore [80yd td pass to binns] and develin all had several positive plays and connected downfield. tanny drew a blank. i guess he is waiting to show the tangible talent in the regular season.

so, like what you see? same mistakes, nothing has changed and he wasnt under any big duress as these were 7 on 7 DRILLS!!

this is how he comes into the season with his career on the line? knowing that he has to prove to everyone, especially hickey, that he is worth a renewal on his contract and deserves the title of franchise qb and the big money? if this is what you call tangible talent than you are more lost than it appears.

I'm as intrigued as you are by Brock Jensen but if we're being honest he doesn't have a prayer at threatening Tannehill's job this season.

very true. but, NO ONE, NO MATTER WHAT is going to unseat tanny this year. the team has to much invested and he has to show the head coach and the gm [who didnt draft him and has no bias] he is worth extending his contract and paying him franchise qb money. they are forced into seeing him through to the bloody end this year.

and if he flops [not looking good out the gate] and someone like a brock jensen rises up in camp and pre season, GREAT!! thats a start for the next season, someone to take tannys vacancy.

and you know all this how HONEYB? .

HoneyB completely contradicts himself when he says Philbin is hands off on the offense and micromanages. Its when the Philbin haters try to embellish their points that they embarrass themselves, they would do well to just stick with his record and leave it at that. At least Awsi Dooger has a legitimate point that his pass first philosophy with a rookie QB won't work in the NFL and I can respect that opinion, but even awsi admits his game management is impeccable. Some of the haters in this thread remind me of scorned lovers and they're being way too careful to not get hurt again. Either that or they just have no logical sense.

First day of OTA's I am not to worried about a few sub par performances, if its over a week into practice then the problems continue then I will worry.

None of those sound like quotes from men that are in love with the guy. In fact, many even sound like backhanded compliments.

Hartline saying he's not as rigid... Tanehill saying he has a dry sense of humor so they rip him as much as possible. Wake joking on his baldness... Ya, that sounds like real affection there! It actually reminds me of how players talked about Wanny, joking about his mustache and lobster traps.

You're reaching. You see what you want to see because of your hatred of the coach and it's painfully obvious. No one is going to be able to convince you otherwise. I dont know why they're trying.

My takeaways:

Lazor's system requires lots of varied formations, movement and personnel groupings that supports the unnamed player's comment of "reminiscent" of Chip Kelly's system. Good.

Lazor is utilizing TE's in pass patterns, pass protection an run blocking. He is using screen passes to get the RB's out in space and benefit from our more mobile OL. These are elements he used marvelously at UVa. Good.

All of these new wrinkles are extremely intricate and require a lot of learned assignments from a cattle call of new players. This will look more like dress staging assignments for a Broadway play then high speed execution of our offense.

Offensive timing is always behind defensive reaction until around week 4 of the regular season, so don't read much into offensive production yet, but rather look for individual execution and how often people are in the right place.

Jason Taylor is here to tutor Dion Jordan o. How to use leverage and long arms to enhance quickness and speed vs the run and in pass rush. Good, perfect teacher and Jordan needs it. Great to have JT helping us.

The staff wants the rookie OL guys to be surrounded by as many veterans as possible at this point. That is why Turner is between Pouncey and Albert and why James is next to guy like Brenner. The rooks have a LOT to learn. Don't read anything into who is playing where or with the 1st team at this stage. It means nothing.

We have a LOT of moving parts and new guys in new systems. Expect a lot of blown assignments for a while.

Most encouragingly, it truly does look like we are getting Lazor's offense. No more predictability having the Bills and Jets knowing our plays. If they reset based on those keys this year they will be gashed for big plays.

Unvarnished facts on Philbin:
- 15-17 overall win loss record
- 4-8 vs the division
- Sparano had higher scoring offenses than Philbin has at any point during his tenure
- experienced several mid game collapses where the team lost huge leads to lose the game
- 0-2 vs Thad Lewis-led teams
- appointed Incognito as a leader
- didn't follow up with a mentally unstable starter which ultimately ended in scandal
- collapsed in final 2 games with playoffs on the line against non-playoff teams and division foes
- forced the trade of several productive players due to personality conflicts

I am trying to look for positive facts/statistics, but I am having trouble finding any. One positive I can recall that he did a decent job of recovering from the scandal after the TB loss, but that was all wasted in last two games.

Can anyone post the team's win/loss record against playoff teams over the past 2 seasons?

You see? You were doing well but you guys can't help but to embellish. Show me evidence Philbin had the power to force Ireland to do anything.

And as for the other points none of them are evidence Philbin is mediocre at best, they can all be countered by several examples of coaches overcoming similar deficiencies to go on to win Superbowls, and you don't have to look any further than the latest SB winning head coach to see one example.

My lord... Did you not see hard knocks? Philbin didn't like how Vontae was carrying himself in camp. It was beyond obvious he didn't want him around. As for Marshall, what incentive would Ireland have for trading his best player if the coach also wanted him on board? Please use a little deductive reasoning. Ireland didn't just trade those guys for ****s and giggles, those were classic new coach "getting his guys" moves.

Anyway, even if your remove that one item, you still are left with a ton of disappointing facts on Philbin's tenure. I am open to hearing a counterpoint. Please provide some facts that could be viewed in a positive light.
