OTA #1 Updates

Petty simple for those who have been following the Dolphins since Shula exit its called churning which leads to miedorcre team we have been enduring. New GM's and coaches bring new structure and rebuilding projects which retards the growth of the team. The only coach that really had a winning record since Shula was Dave Wanstant (which most Dolphin fans are not fans of) but Dave W. won more than the rest of them because Dave W. did not churn the team he inherrited from Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson had built a good defense but was lacking in the offense department which Dave recognized and then traded for Ricky Williams and guess what we had a playoff team. Jeff Ireland chose McCoy over Philbin IMO for that reason recognizing that Philbin want to churn the team in his image while McCoy was willing to work with the foundation that was already there. Anyway we will see maybe you just might be right we have the right man for the job but so far I am not betting on it.

When the Seahawks GM John Schneider took over in one of his first pressers he said he was working off a four year plan, and four years later they are the SuperBowl champs. They have arguably one of the best GMs in the league, arguably an excellent head coach and arguably a young but already elite QB, so if they can be afforded four years why do we have to make decisions on Philbin with arguably one of the worst GMs in the league after only 2 years?

For me its too soon to write him off as "mediocre at best" and we're too far into his plan that it doesn't make any sense to turn around and start over on somebody else's new plan, especially if we are only willing to give the new guy 2 years. Everybody needs to get it in their head that the fairy tale Don Shula turnaround is not realistic and unless there is tangible evidence that the new guy is actually bad (like fist pumping field goals) we need to let people carry out their plans to fruition. And thanks to Ireland's ineptness Philbin is already a year behind where he could be, so him and Hickey should probably be given at least two more years.

and people seem to think Philbin was/is supposed to be this experience head coach that is supposed to get this team to the playoffs in year 2. The guy had zero experience as a head coach before Miami, at any level that he's coached. So he is learning on the job as well.

With the way some of you bash philbin, it almost seems like you want to toss out every head coach that doesn't get this team into the playoffs after 1 or 2 years.

back on topic, correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought there was not supposed to be any hitting or contact during OTA's? That's why the rookie Zach martin for the cowboys may be in trouble, for rolling up on the LB Lee and injuring him...

again, back on topic, anyone know the answer to this?

The whole thing about calling Tannehill mediocre means different things to different people. When I hear a "qb is mediocre" I'm thinking ranking him with the 90 other NFL quarterbacks and saying he's somewhere in the middle. I know a few people are thinking mediocre when looking at the 32 starting quarterbacks. If someone is saying right now Tannehill is somewhere between 13th and 19th among starting quarterbacks that can at least be debated, but I'm sure he's better than average among the 90+ qb's in the league.

I'm sorry, I kicked the thread off topic again. Will re-post elsewhere.

No pads = no tackling and no blocking. However i would think there is going to be some limited contact when you're practicing things like hand placement and how a receiver gets off a jam at the line of scrimmage.

i understand some contact, just odd to see that finnegan had big hits and forced fumbles.

Oh because that's common knowledge? I just love the condescending attitude some people feel is necessary on here

I was just saying, that's a very good possibility that they are friends. I have no clue if they are or not. I don't understand why anyone would question why an NFL player has a framed jersey from another NFL player.

So according to your post Philbin gets this year and next to prove himself. You also admit in your post Tony Sporano was a bad coach also a coach that Ireland did not hire Parcells did, as Ross chose Philbin. You are probably correct Philbin will probably get this year and next because the guy who hired him still owns the team and not because Philbin is a good coach. Ireland had his faults but you can never fault him for hiring his own coach, while GM with the phins, so the final product called the Dolphins rest with Parcells and Ross these past 7 plus years. On the other hand if McCoy suceeds and Philbins fail which is probable lot of fans may look at things in a bit different light down the road. Your posts contradicts itself in saying you cannot turn around a team like Shula did, the Seahawks did with Carroll, the 49ers with Harbourgh and Dungy with Indy a few years ago.

I didn't say its impossible to turn a team around in a year, I'm saying that shouldn't be your bar. And it took Pete Carroll more than a year, many Seahawk fans were unhappy with him before they got it turned around as I pointed out earlier in this thread. Chip Kelly is another example of a coach turning it around in a year but for every Chip Kelly there are two Tom Coughlins or Bill Belichicks.

As for McCoy he was handed an elite QB, arguably the best QB to have never won the SuperBowl, so its not exactly comparing apples to apples.
