Other Mormon QB's (Not a negative post)

I think Ty Detmer served a mission in Australia for a couple years before he turned pro? I am not sure if his brother Koy did or not, but I think a couple years away from football has been a good thing for most of the QB's who have gone on missions. I think Beck's age won't be an issue. I could see him having 10 solid years or more. :)

BTW, has anyone seen the movie Orgasmo? Because I have to tell you, I can't see John Beck speak without thinking of Trey Parker's character in that movie.

"Jesus, dude."

"Where???"

"I think unicorns kick ***" too funny CK, what a funny movie.

Scott Mitchell did go to Utah, but what he's saying is that he was a mormon.

As a huge BYU fan and a Mormon, I feel I am qualified to respond to this thread. The majority of BYU football players are Mormon and most are returned missionaries. Though BYU plays in a smaller conference they still manage to get a number of really talented athletes and always have a few that make it to the NFL each year. In fact, there has been at least one former BYU player on every Super Bowl winning team since 1985 (the only school that can say that). Jim McMahon is catholic and Steve Young, although Mormon, did not serve a mission. A returned missionary QB has not yet had great success in the NFLâ€â€here’s to hoping John Beck will be the first! Here is a short list of current and former NFL names that are Mormon. (There are A LOT more players that I didn’t list but these are just a few.)

Former Notable Players in the NFL

Ty Detmer was not Mormon before or during his time at BYU. He later converted.

Ty did not serve a mission, he joined the church while at BYU. His brother Koy is not a member of the LDS church.

Todd Marinovich.

Oh, wait...sorry. I thought this was a thread about moron Quarterbacks. My bad.

SD Charger fan here, but long time respecter of the Dolphins. After you nabbed Cam and drafted Beck (from my alma mater) I decided to follow along the Phins rebuilding process.

I'm reluctant to label anyone because religious tendancies can change, but this is my limited understanding of the religious status of some past qb's.

Mormon (at least at some point)
Steve Young
Danny White
Ty Detmer
Scott Mitchell
Gifford Nielson
Marc Wilson
Brandon Doman
Robbie Bosco

Not Mormon (but played at BYU)
McMahon
Sarkisian (CFL) USC OC

Welcome aboard, hope we can fully convert you to being a dolphin fan soon!!!
:bighug:

Orgasmo! Holy Crap I forgot about that movie. The South Park guys were Mormons and they love to pick on thier former religon. But man that was a funny movie.

Is Steve Young a morman? I didn't think he was. Most of the football players who go to BYU aren't, atleast according to a friend who went to BYU.

An earlier poster was correct. Steve Young is a descendent of Brigham Young so I believe that would make him a mormon.

Who was the Morman ofensive lineman that was drafted by the Raiders but never played because the games are on Sunday?

If I remember correctly they used a first day pick on him.
