Yes, I know there was a lot of bad teams we should've beat over the last 2 seasons, but one can argue poor head coaching cost us most of those wins. Granted, our QB play wasn't anything to write home about, but even Moore showed some signs last year. Hopefully he'll improve if we don't land a ready to go QB in the draft...which other than Luck and maybe Griffin, is a strong possibility. And if we do pick up a Tannehill, Cousins, or Weeden, maybe we finally solve our QB issues for the next several years even if he has to sit a year.
I'm not saying we have a powerhouse team...because we don't, but if we have a good draft and even marginally improved QB play, this team can contend for a wild card spot. The top of the AFC isn't as dominant as it has been in the past few seasons. A 9-7 team can get in. Is 9-7 pushing it? Maybe. But let's see what kind of impact Philbin has on this team before writing 2012 as a complete regression! Parity works wonders for teams like ours! Look at what a rookie head coach did for San Fran. Their QB situation before last season was marginal at best and Smith managed to nearly lead his team to the Super Bowl.
I'm sorry if this is too optimistic for some of you, but hey it's my opinion and a very manageable one if we get a few bounces to go our way. If we can plug a few of the glaring holes on our team (namely the right side of the line, safety, an athletic receiver, and another pass rusher) in the draft, we can contend for a wild card berth. Long shot, maybe...a possibility, definitely.
