Rice got less than 500 yards his rookie season. Flacco, about as successful as a young qb can get, threw for less than 3k yards with 14 tds but 12 interceptions.

We Dolfans have gotten used to our first rounders starting immediately. I recall threads going up saying Odrick was a bust because he was injured his rookie year. The fact is, our first round picks have been positions that are "rookie friendly". Linemen and a corner who fell in the draft because of "character concerns" have all been in a position to succeed early.
While the NFL has gotten more friendly towards rookie quarterbacks, the one we seem to be targetting is very raw and needs time. The Von Miller/Aldon Smiths of the league are rare. Most of the wideouts that made an impact this season took a few years to develop(example: Hakeem Nicks).

Even if we have an all-star draft, this season should be rough.

Rice was the 3rd leading rusher on the team with 454 yards and 0 TDs...Flacco threw for 14 TD and 12 int.

The Ravens pass defense broke down in 2008, thanks in large part to injuries....2006 defense was #1 in fewest points allowed with 16 TD passes allowed and 28 int leading to a 13-3 record...2007 defense fell to #22 allowing 27 TD passes and 17 interceptions leading to a 5-11 record...2008 defense bounced back to #3 with 17 TD passes allowed and 26 interceptions.

The Ravens defense created 32 turnovers in 2007 and 53 in 2008...unless Flacco and Rice played defense in 2008, which they didn't, it wasn't them that led to the Ravens turnaround. Giving them way too much credit.

That's not the point I'm trying to get across. This is an important first draft under the Philbin era, and my prediction will change depending on who we pick. If we make some trades and come away with players like Fleener or Ingram who I personally think will do good, I'll have a higher opinion of this team. On the other side, I'm not buying Sunday Ticket if we get Couples and Cousins or some garbage like that. Hence why I'm "waiting on the draft"

Solid rookie year, and he's the "guy" right now. He hasn't lit the league on fire by any means, but he has been much more efficient than Boller or McNair ever were in Baltimore. QB was their achilles heel for the longest time, and that draft set them up nicely for a few years, even with an aging defense.

And that single draft was the main difference in the 11-5 Jaguars, who made the playoffs, winning 6 fewer games in 2008, and the Ravens winning 6 more and making the AFC Championship game. The draft is major, all I'm trying to get across.
