You would expect that "the steal of the NFL draft" would have broken somewhere into a playing spot by now.
I can't ever see him as a "starting" QB in the NFL so why did we "waste" a 2nd round draft pick on him? If he ever becomes our starting QB then we are in serious trouble.
In 4 years in college he never threw for over 1,850 yards in a season. Fuxk the "scheme" his team played, if he was a great passer, they would have passed the ball more. The NFL is a passing game now for QBs but he is not a good passing QB. He does not have a strong arm and tends to miss on longer pass attempts.
He is fast for a QB but not for a NFL player. He is small for a NFL QB or player at any position. He has very small hands. He could run in college in the open field but not in the NFL. He is a weaker armed and much smaller version of Vince Young.
To play even the WR position in the Wildcat he needs to show he can catch the ball.
His stats are 3 run attempts for 5 yards. That is a 1.7 yard average.
He is not big or strong enough to play in the Wildcat. He does not pass well enough to play in the spread.
He has to be a "surprise" on no more then a couple of plays per game because it would be too easy to game plan for him.
Some might want to wait to call him a bust, but IMO as a 2nd rounder he was at the end of preseason.
The list of players like Jared Cook (TE) that we could of taken instead of him makes it even worse.
My list is long here.
Connor Barwin OLB
Phil Loadholt OT
Max Unger G/C
Mohamed Massaquoi WR
Paul Kruger OLB
Clint Sintim OLB
Jared Cook TE
Chase Coffman TE
Jarron Gilbert DE
These are the ones off the top of my head. I would love either TE, Conner Barwin or Paul Kruger, Unger or Loadholt and even Mohamed Massaquoi (he IS a Bulldog after all)
Take Pat White a couple of rounds later and I have almost no problem with him.
P.S. Also give me Louis Murphy over Pat Turner at WR.
