This FO is an embarrassment.. I know he hasnt done much in two games, but IMO he was worth the contract. Say byebye to Paul come the end of the season.

The deadline for signing franchised players to long-term deals passed yesterday without the Dolphins and nose tackle Paul Soliai coming to an agreement.
Soliai’s agent David Canter joined Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald on Salguero’s radio show Wednesday to talk about why a deal didn’t get done. Canter’s take on the negotiations makes it seem like the two sides never came particularly close to a deal because, per Canter, they were “basically in completely different mindsets.”
Canter said that the Dolphins offered a deal running through 2014 worth in the neighborhood of $8 million per year. There was $6 million in new guaranteed money as part of that offer, a number that Canter balked at while asking for $18 million in new guarantees beyond this season. As Salguero points out, the Dolphins clearly viewed this year’s $12.4 million as part of a new deal while Canter rejected the idea that this year’s franchise tag should be seen part of a new contract.
The offer put forth by Canter was in line with the contract that the Browns gave Ahtyba Rubin earlier this month. Rubin got $18 million in guaranteed money from 2012-2014 and his career arc makes for a pretty good comparison to Soliai. There’s precedent for the Dolphins offer as well. When Vince Wilfork signed his extension with the Patriots before last season, he did it with the franchise money essentially being part of the $25 million guaranteed him over the life of the deal. Wilfork is also set to make $8 million per year in his deal.
Wilfork had a longer resume at the time of that deal compared to Soliai, who has just one year as a full-time starter under his belt.
Soliai hasn’t been overly impressive in the first two games of the season, but, barring a serious injury, it is hard to imagine that he won’t have several teams after him if he hits the open market after this year.

solia should not get wilfork money or even close IMO
he is good though i think he worth 5 mil per year

12.4 million this year and 6 million more guaranteed then 8 million a season and Soliai
turns it down....DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN YOUR GREEDY FAT AZZ

Pretty much my thoughts here unless solia can play guard or right tackle on the oline

That guy gets paid that guy goes home satisfied and fills his face - brilliant not to sign him longterm

$18 mil guaranteed for rubin huh...solais definitely in that neighborhood but how do you not count that massive $12.4 mil hit of guaranteed money in the contract negotiations going forward??? if you don't that becomes $30 mil guaranteed which for solia right now is too rich...maybe $20 to 25 mil guaranteed i can see that

worse part is you lose solai there's nothing in the cupboard to replace him...should have kept kearse to develop at least...

Agreed about Frank Kearse

I think he is worth a contract extension closer to what he wanted. Their an embarrassment because they sign so many worthless ex cowboy and other players and give them a couple mil/year and those guys dont contribute, but a guy that is here and proved he can play doesnt get an extension.

As one poster said earlier today, Ross throws away millions of dollars to players that Ireland signs and then releases within a week, but established guys on our team dont get what they deserve. Instead of wasting millions on players that dont contribute (in most cases because Sparano is too stupid to know what he is doing), how about saving the money and putting it forth to players that deserve it.

[/URL]Please tell me why the FO is an embarrassment here......please.

I've liked him for some time, but if he's getting paid anywhere near Wilfork money, either he's gettting overpaid or Wilfork is getting underpaid. He's not in Wilfork's league. I'd appreciated him more when he was a role player b/c the occasional big play was more then I was expecting. Now that he views himself as a top NT, his performance is not living up to it and he's become another disappointment.

I would say you are in the minority here if you think he is worth that kind of money and I'm glad this FO did not sign him for that.

I dont think he is worth Wilfork money, but I think he deserves more than what he was offered. Now when he leaves who are we going to replace him with?

He doesnt deserve it! Trade his *** while we can for the next regime.

WTF? He was offered Wilfork money... what don't you understand. You think he's better than Wilfork... Hello, they offered him the same money. How much more ( not to play like Wilfork) were you willing to part with. When was the last time you herd his name called for making a play ? Both teams rushed for more than a hundred yards... maybe fat boy should do something about that for his 12+ mil this f***ing year.
