Paul Soliai, Dolphins never came close to deal

Let me know when he learns to shed a block and make a tackle. Or if he ever gets in the backfield even once this year.

Wake me up when any of our defensive line and now even Wake Included does anything you mentioned.

well in fairness the things u mentioned arent really a NTs job in this scheme. his job is to force the offense to occupy him w 2 blockers. so 4 tackles isnt a bad number through 2 games, and it might even be a good number. i dont pay attention really to soliai while simply watching the game most of the time, and to be honest i havent felt like going back and taking a peek at his play. so i dont know if hes playing well or not. but the points you made dont actually indicate hes playing poorly

on passing downs, his job is certainly to collapse the pocket so that the qb can't just step up to avoid the outside rush which is typically your source of lb pressure. In the NE game, he was going up against the backup center for a good portion of the game and we got zero pressure b/c Brady could just step up in the pocket if by some chance we got some pressure from Wake.

he doesnt play passing downs generally

dolphins offered him 24 million over 3 years with 18 million guaranteed. This includes this season. His agent wants 18 million guaranteed plus the 12 million guaranteed for this year. The dolphins offered six plus what he was set to make this year. So go ahead paul have your agent wait till next year and u may end up losing money

they didnt offer him 24 million with 18 million guaranteed. BECAUSE he is ALREADY guaranteed almost $13 miilion. what they offered him was $12 million for 2 years with $6 million guaranteed.

they is NO WAY you accept that contract. NONE. his agent 100% made the correct move. like i said paul doesnt even have to play at the level he did last year and hes STILL going to make more money that what was offered on the open market.

the dolphins didnt make a fair offer because they dont want to pay soliai fait money at this point, and at this point perhaps its the correct move. they made the mistake not locking the guy up early on.

My bad... That's 3 million a tackle. The guy has immense talent, the question is will he ever put it to good use. I was hoping he would be a beast this year but after watching both games I don't see him. I have to re-wind to find out just WTF the middle of our defense is. I wouldn't have minded re-signing him, but not at top dollar. He is already getting that and playing like a chump.

agreed. He has played at a decent level for what, 1 1/2 seasons??? to reward a 1 1/2 seasons worth of above average level play with an insane contract is a great way to make your franchise go down the toilet even farther than it already is. If he's too greedy to take the deal, let him walk. We will find a way to fill the hole either through FA or the draft. I would take a stab that the teams that will offer him big money are the teams that are already in hot water. A low caliber team that has the money to throw away and give to a guy who has hardly proved a damn thing IMO. talk to me when you've been proving it for 3-4 years, than I'll make sure your set for life.

well thats fine. but thats also not how it works in the NFL. it was up to this coaching staff and front office to identify Soliai as a contributor moving forward and they didnt, and they didnt give him the playing time in order to develop either, while clearly possessing no other viable prospects at the postion and an aging and at that point in his career injury prone NT, jason ferguson in the lead role. these guys had every opportunity to lock this guy up ON THE CHEAP at rotational player type of numbers and they didnt. at this point with his production coming over half a season you cant blame them necessarily for not caving now and signing him for ridiculous money. but by the MARKETS standards he wasnt asking for ridiculous money. he was simply asking for a fair offer. he never got one.

you cant blast the guy for being greedy. he wasnt being greedy - not even close. and he would have signed previously (as in prior to last season) for a very reasonable number. the front office blew this. no reason for Soliai to sign just to sign.

and are u kidding me? he needs to prove it for 3-4 years? thats not on him dude. its the TIMING of the contract extension. these guys failed to identify an emerging talent and now theyll pay the price in the offseason with yet another hole to fill in the lineup. i agree with them AT THIS POINT tho not sure if it makes sense to sign a part time player (doesnt play on 3rd down) in the 10 million a year range when nickel defense in the NFL is really the base D

paul has had a very good opportunity here to get a huge contract. he could of come in here and dominated, and earned a big contract. he hasn't done that in my opinion, we'll see how the season plays out but at this point his agents demands seem high and i'd let him walk.

He got pretty much the same offer that Wilfork got although one year less. Wilfork worked out the same arraignment that the dolphins were offering where he included the franchise money in his new contract. To pay him the same amount as Wilfork is highway robbery for him as he doesn't have nearly the same level of production as Wilfork. My thinking if i'm him is why not either break the bank with the Fins which they weren't willing to do or explore free agency where he could land on a better team for a similar deal if not better then was being offered and that's fine. To say he wasn't offered a fair deal though is just insane. I give the FO credit for making a fair offer like they did with Orton and holding the line at that offer. If anything they'd overpaid but rightly so its worth to overpay at the NT position in a 3-4. But there's a limit on how much you should spend on a guy that has done essentially nothing to justify that contract.

this is your description of him and your are arguing with me why? I can blame him for not producing over an extended period of time. he played average for most of his career. than had a breakout season, and to this point this year, seems to be playing average again. what, in your opinion is a fair offer for an average 2 down D lineman?

They offered him including his franchise tag 12 million for this year and 12 million more on that . thats 8 million a year 18 million guaranteed how is that not fair money. anytime u renegotiate a franchise tag player u want to include the current franchise with the contract otherwise why even waste the time of renegotiaing. So again how is 8 million a year not fair esp when a three time probowler just took 8 million a year

Good luck getting that next year on the open market

by all accounts ive seen Paul Soliai hasnt played poorly so far. i deleted the games off the DVR so i cant look. but people listing the fact soliai only has 4 tackles as evidence he has played poorly for an interior lineman - thats just plain and simple garbage. how many sacks did paul have last year? understand the position he plays people. he isnt going to rack up numbers.

and his contract demands were most certainly NOT ridiculous as many here seem to believe. and he STILL is going to earn a big contract and THAT is the point here. hes going to get paid fair market value. the dolphins were never going to pay him obviously cause they already blew it and priced themselves out of the market as the price continued to rise last year with no offer on the table till it came down to the fact they had to franchise the guy to keep him.

once hes franchised THATS ON THE TEAM NOT HIM. why should he be expected to play for free essentially on a contract he is going to earn in ONE YEAR as soon as the seasons over? MAKES ZERO FOLKS. they were asking for the same type of money that cleveland signed a NT for here last week. the dolphins could have negotiated from there. they decided not to.

to say soliai is being greedy here is just ignorant. its just simply not the case. if u are making say $50,000 a year and your boss comes to u and says - you know what? ive got a great idea how about u stick around here awhile and after this year which you are making $50,000 why dont you work the next 2 YEARS for $50,000 TOTAL??? and u know there are offers out there for you to make $100,000

come on people be real. and make some sense. if you wouldnt take that deal or give your boss the home town discount why should he??? the dolphins WERENT EVEN CLOSE folks. they made a ridiculous offer. they know it. he knows it. paul soliai will not be a dolphin next year unless hes playing under another franchise tag - in which case the dolphins CLEARLY ****ed up because they could have LOCKED HIM UP for EXACTLY that kind of guaranteed money and had him for a couple more years.

dlock better fix your math. he is ALREADY GUARANTEED $12 million. GET IT????? HE ALREADY GETTING THAT MONEY. NO MATTER WHAT. they offered him (not accurately stated btw) $18 million and $8 million a year. really thats a good deal??

THATS NOT WHAT THEY OFFERED HIM. thats how it was reported. LOOK AT THE FACTS. they offered $6 million IN NEW MONEY and since hes already making $12 million this year what kind of sense does it make to use THAT money as part of the average for the new deal??? NONE. ZERO. ZIP. ZILCH. if the total contract value was $24 million THATS ONLY $6 MILLION PER YEAR.

THATS AN AWFUL DEAL compared to the market. the guy in cleveland JUST SIGNED for $18 million in NEW MONEY and $27 million total for 3 years. the dolphins offered $6 million guaranteed in NEW MONEY and $12 million TOTAL for 2 years IN NEW MONEY. how do those 2 contracts compare??? would u sign the second one? no chance.

if they had negotiated this deal last season thats one thing. THEY DIDNT.

explain to me how it makes any sense at all to include money ALREADY EARNED in a new offer and say thats how much the offer was for???

if u cant understand this. then i really dont know what else to say to help u bub
