Why is that? He went to college at Pitt. If Miami doesn't have a specific role for him then it shouldn't be a big deal at all if he was to work in the Steelers organization.

Just how bad would Marino have to be than to be worse than the last 5 to 10 years? Seriously.

I mean, the Broncos have won more playoff games since Elway became Team President/GM (3) than the Dolphins have in... what? The last 15 years? Maybe more? But yeah... let's wait to see if Elway has success. :lol:

I'd like to see Marino come into the Dolphins organization and be given real power. I'd be in favor of that. I mean, I think most posters here are aware that I think the current regime is about 85% bozo, so what could it hurt? Unlike the situation a decade ago, I think Dan truly wants the responsibility and is willing to do the work (unlike the bitch work Rick Spielman had him doing all those years ago).

To me, this change in Marino's mindset is more than anything down to his close friend John Elway getting into Dan's ear about how close the front office experience is to the field. Don't forget, these guys tread that line between friendship in a way that's pretty unique. They didn't play against each other that often, but don't forget that. Dan has seen how invigorated Elway is by his experience, how much it turns on his competitive juices and gives him that crazy mainline football experience... and I think Dan is hooked again. He'd probably convinced himself that since his playing days were over that he'd have to move on from his competitive life completely, that nothing he'd ever find in his life could ever compare to the inferno of crunch time.

But here it is. Elway is experiencing it. And Dan wants it. Badly. The problem is... Ross looks at the Dolphins like it's his toy train set and he doesn't want anyone else to play. So I don't see it happening.

This, 100%. What's really sad about this is that Marino is the only person associated with this team that has any kind of credibility left and actually wants to be an active part of this team. Naturally, Ross wants nothing to do with that other than in a role that's all for show.

He IS from PA after all.

And he DID quit a job with the Dolphins FO.

I'm not going to pursue a guy that quit once. That's
just my nature. Quit once, and, that's that.
 
Couldnt care less if he goes to pitt all he would be here is a figurehead and someone to trot out to the media

He was in PA longer than he was a Dolphin.

Regardless....If he wants to go to the Steelers, let him.

He quit here before because he didnt just want to be a dam figure head though. Everyone acts like Dan couldnt make decisions and handle the front office stuff,but no one can honestly say one way or another if he could or not,but the truth about the whole thing is he couldnt do any worse than some did, like our former GM.

I think he at least deserved a chance to show what he could do and how he could help,had he been given a real opportunity years ago especially,who's to say how many attractive free agents he could have drawn to the Miami area to play for the team,especially with the likes of Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas still around then. Even today his name still resonates,and again,I think he at least deserves the chance to prove or disprove what he can do.

And Dan didnt say he was going to Pittsburgh it was just the ONLY other team he said he would even consider working for,nothing wrong with that in the fact that he did grow up there loving those teams where he was born and raised,just like any other hometown person grows up in an area loving there teams,theres nothing wrong with that.He didnt say he wanted to go to Pitt. either,but again,if the Dolphins dont want to hire him,whats he to do ? The fault would lie more with the team if they didnt give him an opportunity than it would with Dan,some act like its a dam betrayal or something,when its not or never was stated that way ! If the Dolphins dont hire him,he deserves to wprk and have an income,blame Miami for not giving him the chance if it comes to that !

You don't just get granted magical powers because you were a QB.
 
I am a huge fan of Dan Marino and I think he is one of the top three QB's I have ever seen play the game, but that in no way qualifies him to do anything in a front office position. If he wants to work for the Dolphins as a spokesman and a figurehead while he observes and learns how things work in an organization, than fine. Hire him. If, however, he wants some substantial power right off the bat than I say I don't want him anywhere near the organization.
