Really good observations. As I continue to watch videos produced by experts, I am getting a better feel for the criticism that have no basis. Some of the ridiculous statements are:
Also, his strengths are beginning to become crystalize
- Tua only goes to his first read.
- Tua cannot go through his progressions (1st - 2nd - 3rd - and back to 1st touchdown kills that one).
- Anyone can throw it 2 yards like Tua (silly Giants CB).
Some of his challenges are:
- Ability to use his eyes to move defenders.
- Good ability to anticipate where the receiver will be early in the route.
- Ability to be extremely accurate when set
- Ability to be lightening quick catch to release with reasonable accuracy (Parker touchdown)
- Ability to keep the sack count and pressure count low via the quick recognition and release
He was off during the Jets game, but I like how he is growing during this season.
- Ability to freelance or adjust when he is fooled pre-snap.
- Mechanics when under pressure.
- Ability to check into the best play when numbers are not in your favor.
- Scramble versus wait and throw decisions
- Too many dumb throws and/or mistakes.
- Taking what the defense gives you (does it most of the time but still room for improvement)
There have been a few times when I think Tua should have taken off and run the ball. Also, a few times where his mechanics are a little off (flat-footed throws). And he definitely took some chances and got away with some bad throws against the Jets.
For the most part, I am thrilled with what Tua is doing year two in an offense that has limited talent.
