Our offensive line was, well, offensive last year.
If it was defensive... that'd be a whole different issue... wouldn't it?

I'm thinking along those same lines.
Austin Jackson looks like he's put the work in. He's physically impressive.
Eichenberg will always just be the guy we passed on Creed Humphrey for.
As an Ohio State fan, gotta say, I don't even like Tommy Eichenberg, star LB and younger brother of Liam. I'm holding a grudge there too.
I see this sentiment about Armstead a lot on here and it ignores the fact that it’s ridiculously rare for an elite offensive lineman to play every game in a season. Trent Williams hasn’t played a full season in 10 years. Lane Johnson has played a full season twice in his career, in his first and third season. Bulaga has missed the past two seasons.First off, guy who wrote the article doesn't have the starting line up correct.
Eichenburg is no longer the LG. That's now Wynns spot. Eich will be the backup G/C.
I want to remind everyone that I've been Austin Jackson's biggest hater in the entire world, but he looks incredible right now. He's lost so much body fat it's almost unbelievable. For the first time in my life I'm actually comfortable with Jackson starting on this Oline.
Armstead really pisses me off bc he hasn't even made it through a season healthy. There are 4 things that are certain in life, Death, Taxes and Tua and Armstead getting injured every season. If those 2 stay healthy all year were winning a superbowl I have no doubt. Odds on them both staying healthy all year are prob 1/1,000,000 however.
We lack depth on the oline and that's gonna be our downfall if we don't win it all this year. It's likley too late to fix this now so we just need to prey that everyone stays healthy and Williams comes back to play center.

Truth is, when your job requires you to carry 300 lbs and block 250+ lb athletic freakshows you’re bound to get banged up. T stead showed last year that he’s willing to play through pain when he can. If we can get 10-11 games out of him and he plays in the playoffs that’s a win at his contract
You don't get maulers when your scheme is zone/wide zone. You get agile, good footwork, assignment sound guys.
I wouldn't put Eich anywhere near my starting o-line.No surprises there. Eichenberg got thrown around like a ragdoll last year. Spent way to much time on the ground , and doesn't seem to anchor down well. Maybe it's technique, but it appears he lacks natural strength in his lower body.
No idea what you mean but, generally, the term "mauler" is associated with power rushing schemes.Tell that to Philadelphia.

I try not to fixate on missing on taking Humphrey but it is difficult not to. Drafting Humphrey would have saved the expense(and present annoyance)of Connor Williams not to mention the pick(a 3rd rounder I think)to move up for Eichenberg. Humphrey would have made the C position a strength for a long time and made it a lot easier to rebuild(or just BUILD to be honest)the OL. Hell, maybe you still sign Williams and plug him in at LG where he belongs.I'm thinking along those same lines.

Different year, same old BS! For a decade now we have been somewhere around here when everyone is healthy. The ISSUE IS AND HAS BEEN that once one or maybe 2 players go down, we drop to 33rd in the league (yes that is a joke to make a point). Hopefully Williams comes around soon, because this line is bad enough when just Armstead goes down.
That is the reality of things, you sugar coaters are delusional.
You aren't wrong, of course, but in the context of Oline coaching specifically, we have yet another new Oline coach.
No doubt conceptually things will be the same with Smith and McD, but it's still a new Oline coach.
At least it's a guy with a hell of a lot more NFL experience than last season. I always thought handing the job to a meh college Oline coach was very questionable in year one install of a completely different philosophy.
Love McD, but he should have known better on that choice. Perhaps none of his top choices were available, but there must have been someone with a better resume out there

Not as bad as taking Charles Harris over TJ Watt or Eddie Moore over Anquan Boldin, but it is up there.
