PFT: Chester Could Be Angling for Injury Settlement

Plus it would contradict an interview he conducted earlier this summer when he said he was definitely coming back..

Yeah, but if he was really "angling for an injury settlement," then you can't really trust that quote. I assumed we would have to replace both he and TimBo at the end of last year. Unfortunately, seems to be the case. DT is a very physically demanding position- a bad knee and certainly a bad disc are pretty hard to come back from in the trenches.

Well its seems like that Chester prob wont be able to do anything in TC, except for doing some drills and working with the trainer. I really hope that he can be healthy enough to play in the season opener because we really need him. I pretty much doubt that he will start for us, but i hope that that we can use him alot in the 3-4.

Personally, I think Chester is done!! When is the last time he finished a season without injury. When it gets to that point, it's time to hang it up!!

That is a good point.

Hmmmm.....This could be a concern......

Which way do we go if Chester can't make it back, and even if he does, how long will he be able to play at an effective level???...

Picking up Traylor was nice and all, but we have no real proven starter at DT behind him and Chester. That is unless you conisder Carter / Holliday DT's....

We need to find Chester's replacement before the season starts IMO. Chester hasn't even been that impressive since coming to Miami, and he's rarely ever healthy, or in the shape that he'd like to be in. He talks a good game, but he never shows up...

I think it's time we looked for a younger, hungrier DT to start in 2005. Whoever it is, should be able to contribute as much as Chester has since arriving in Miami. I hve been less than impressed with him thus far...

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I hate to say this but it was predictable. It was apparent last year that we should have drafted Wilfork who in six games replaced the man who will be playing for us at NT and who probably doesnt have much left.

Now it appears to be the area of biggest need.Thats why drafting the BPA which Wilfork was is so important.

You can add me to the 'dissatisfied with Chester' club.
Never understood why we brought the man in the first place. He was a spot starter with the Colts and was handed the starting job here.
Chester's deficiencies have been masked by Timbo's presence. I think we'd be better off without him.

He was a starter at Carolina before we signed him. I think he made an impression when he single-handedly shut down our run game the year before when we played Carolina.

can someone tell me how the supplemental draft works? Is it like the NFL draft where every team has a chance in every round and where they are in the order just like the NFL draft like 1 is SF, 2 is MIA, 3 is CLE and so on?

Manny Wright welcome to Miami.

I wonder if were going to have to give up a little more to get him because of Need? Is it worth it at this point in time?

Yeah you're right I didn't remember Chester being with Carolina.
55 tackles and 0.5 sacks as a starter in his only year over there. Had a season-high nine tackles at Miami (11/4). It's sad to see we probably judged him on that single performance and his bench-pressing prowess (630 pds deadlift). I still think he's been sub-par with us.

You gotta remember the fact that Chester played only 11 games and ended up on IR that year in Carolina. Broke that bone in his lower leg/ankle area. Played in severe pain in 2001 as the injury healed. Was very good in 2003. Got himself in the best shape ever last year, but tore that ACL.

I'm impressed some reality has finally crept into this forum regarding Larry Chester. I watch line play almost exclusively and have for more than 30 years. Chester is a remarkably ineffective blob. We made significant mistakes picking up both Chester and Jay Williams from Carolina. You make moves like that and then wonder why you have no chance to elevate to championship level, or even remain at 10-6 or thereabouts.

Chester is worthy of being cut outright even when completely healthy. I realize no one will agree with that but I would have said the same regarding Jay Williams and not many would have agreed, particularly the ones insisting we could get a draft pick for Williams or Zgonina. I crave athletic ability on both lines and think that's been our missing ingredient along with down-the-field QBing.

Once we find ferocious and athletic upfield DTs, Larry Chester will be remembered for what he was, a stationary waste of time and very emblematic of our steady personnel decline in the Wanny/Spielman years.
