I think it is where they are projecting you for the season.
So the 2nd worst team in the league can battle for a playoff spot if the offense is decent? Awesome take from PFT then.

An 8-8 team that lost a defensive backup for 4 games and its starting center for a few weeks is now the 31st worst team in the NFL?
After the Browns just lost their best offensive player for the season and the Jags are still the Jags? I'm not even going to argue that Miami should be 10 or even 5 spots higher, but how on earth do you rank them below teams like that? I'm dying of laughter.
The shyster is at it again.
I've seen other "polls" that had us ranked around 20 - 23....which seemed about right to me.
I think 12-15 is being a homer, that's not to say they can't end up there but to say they are now or say you expect them to be there is being a homer. anything can happen in this league, good teams get bad and bad teams get good seemingly overnight but while you have talent you have major questions at HC, QB, OL. they could all turn out positive and you make the playoffs but it's more likely they all won't turn out positive and you could struggle.
I have been through this cycle of losing before, it's hard to break.
I can see us winning even a few less if Philbin loses the team. I can also see us winning 9 if Lazor turns out to be a genius. It can really go either way this year. Recent history tells me it will not go well, but I'm banking on Lazor, and on desperation causing Philbin to get tougher on his players.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/07/preseason-power-rankings-no-31-miami-dolphins/
I know the national media doesn't like us, but I'm still surprised. Anything less than 7-9 would shock me, and I really think we are looking at a 8-8 to 10-6 type season.
Yeah but those arent power ratings, they`re power rankings.... Basically stupid opinions without any real backing. Power ratings actually enable you to build a rule of thumb starting betting line, power rankings are just good to generate traffic on fan sites such as this one...Legit power ratings are math based. I've had to compile them on numerous sports for decades. It can be a pain in the butt considering the time expenditure. But it often leads to clarity. In golf, for example, the results often don't match the subjective version.
The newfangled media likes to apply the term power rating to nothing more than bar stool subjective blather. The word power is used to feign legitimacy. It's hilarious when huge changes occur, like a team dropped from 2nd to 7th based on one result. Actual power ratings don't work that way.
Everything important in the Dolphins' recent resume, like point differential and YPPA Differential, suggests a middle of the road team.
That midsection is vast in the NFL, BTW. That was one of my breakthroughs as a sports bettor. I'll never forget when I did the research and discovered it. It was spring 1984 and I had just left a Jack in the Box in Montebello, CA, not far east of Los Angeles on the Pomona Freeway. Contrary to conventional wisdom, only 4-6 teams in the NFL every year deserve special treatment. I labeled them Cream. The rest of the lot can be tossed together. I called them Crowd. Once I started taking points when Crowd teams played each other and only gave points with Cream teams, the winning percentage soared and second guessing was all but gone. It still holds up to this day but I've made some adjustments due to situational factors. Don't give points with Crowd teams, particularly -4 or above.
