PFT Power Rankings - Dolphins at #31

Quote- nyjunk : why would the Jets, w/ nothing to play for, show up more motivated and hyped than Miami battling for their first playoff app since 2008

Samething could be said about this..

The Dolphins shock the Jets at home in a 19-17 win, eliminating New York from playoff contention.

Why, please explane.

Every team loves to play the SPOILER...

What a GURU you are...

Don't want to add to the negativity but....just can't see right now this team winning more than 5-6.

I really hope we start off and see the OLine forming a wall and RT throwing lasers but odds are that the line will be marginally better than last year and RT will be RT. Running game will be non-existent.

Only bright side might be Ross cleaning house, odds are he wont, and we'll be repeating the cycle of agony.

PLEASE...I am begging this team to show me something to give me hope during pre-season.

RT being RT is more than good enough. He's not even close to being considered a hindrance or problem on this offense. Not worried about his play one bit...sure he has a few things he can improve on that would help a LOT...but overall he's plenty good enough.

The OL...yep...that's the main issue (again). However, it's not the same line as last year's, coaches are different, OC is different, scheme is different. If that unit can perform at least average, the run game will open up, there'll be more space in which to operate for the WRs/RBs/TEs, and there should be plenty mismatches to take advantage of.

If that stuff doesn't come together...ya...ugly year incoming. But at this point, nobody can honestly say it will or it won't. I'll give 'em at least camp and pre-season before I see 5 or 6 wins, right now I'm in the "hold" mode and expect 8-8 again, with a lot of potential upside.

Ya...it's a bit of a crap-shoot :)

Same type of motivation. If we can't get to the playoffs, we are going to make sure you don't get their either.

it's not the same, many teams lay down and die if they have nothing to play for in week 17. Playing for a chance to get into the playoffs and continue championship dreams is a much bigger motivator than spoiling someone's season.

nyjunk- very witty!

The difference is in 2011 even had we won we would NOT have made the playoffs, if you guys won you would have made the playoffs.

The only time a team lays down at the end of a season, is when that team has made the play offs. But you know that already.
The teams that aren't in the play offs love to play spoiler for those that are on the bubble.

From the NY post....

The Jets owe the Dolphins one.
The Jets owe them for a month ago, when the Dolphins handed them one of their two home losses this season — a 23-3 humiliation that wrecked their playoff chances.
They owe them for 2008, when the Dolphins came to Giants Stadium and knocked the Jets out of the playoffs, embarrassing them with their former quarterback, Chad Pennington, badly outplaying Brett Favre, the quarterback the Jets traded for at the start of that season to replace Pennington.
Coach Rex Ryan owes the Dolphins, against whom he is only 3-6 as a head coach with the Jets.

who cares about some silly article? the dolphins were playing for their first playoff app in 5 years and 2nd in 12 years. That is more motivation than ending playoff hopes of a rival.

The Jets weren't knocked out by Miami in '08 either, that was another game had we won we still wouldn't have made the playoffs.

Hahahaha. Okay...

Hahahaha. Okay...

believe what you want to believe. you realize you are bashing your team, essentially saying they are mentally weak. they lost to an inferior team w/ less motivation than them in their biggest game.

as far as the '08/'11 getting "knocked out" stuff. it's a fact, had we won those games we still wouldn't have made it. Look it up.

Who cares about the team from 5 years ago, or 12 years ago? The way teams move players around the league now, no one cares about trying to win because they haven't been to the playoffs in 5 years. 90% of the team probably wasn't around 5 years ago. And damn sure no one from 12 years ago is on the team.

It's not like tannehill was in the huddle and telling the players they have to win because they haven't made the playoffs in 5 years. What a joke.

I guess Division Champions now don't make the playoffs? YOU look it up. That was essentially an elimination game for both teams. Winner gets Division title and goes to the Playoffs, Dolphins won, the end. (*Got this from one of those playoff sites from back then "If the Jets Beat the Dolphins and the Bills beat the Patriots, the Jets win the AFC East and # 3 seed" I pretty clearly remember that they were not mathematically eliminated as of kick off time and playing a rival with the chance to mess up their title hopes with a slim chance at making it in is as good a motivator as any)

As far as last years game, I clearly remember there being at least one interview of Jets personnel saying how it'd be great to send the Dolphins packing.

Motivation is a tricky thing but you cannot say that one team wanting revenge is not as motivating as another teams wish to advance. BOTH are equally as motivating.

Especially after we spanked the hell out of them earlier in the season and trying to save their crybaby coaches job.
Ya no motivation.
