PFT: Tannehill gearing up for a holdout?

We havent been in good salary cap position since Aponte took over.. Was a HUGE mistake to hire this fake who has no idea what shes doing

Always someone that has to begin the Jeff Ireland Bashing ....even though its most likely Aponte's fault lol

Think Ck forgot that nothing is ever Irelands fault but whenever something good happens its because of Ireland.

Silly Ck, assuming that its Irelands responsibility to sign the players he drafts.

edit: as for the contract: If we cut Tannehill before his rookie contract is up, we have alot bigger problems then a few million bucks.

At this point no one is at fault or "retarded" as some have said. Training camp is still a week away, there is currently no holdout and Tannehill is not missing any practice time. If he signs early next week, this is a complete non-story. A week from now if he is still unsigned, then people can be concerned. Under Ireland only two players were not signed in time for the start of camp. Henne missed the AM practice of day one but was signed in time for the PM practice in 2008. Pouncey last year missed two practice sessions. So even if Tannehill doesn't report on day one(I still think he will) it probably won't last more than a day or two.

We are talking about such a small amount of money - basically if Tannehill gets cut by the time his contract runs out in 4 years, and another team picks him up, his new salary can be deducted from the guaranteed money Miami might still owe him. Thats what all this "offset language" is about. It trivial imo and Miami should just sign him without that language.
Interesting situation. Tannehill sounds genuinely appreciative that Dolphins selected him. Many times he has gone out of his way to publicly thank Ross, Ireland and Philbin for giving him the opportunity. He also knows that any time spent missing training camp can't be made up. But he also has a manager who wants to start well by optimizing the result. First real test for Ryan.

Pretty sure a lot of people view Ireland completely opposite of that. Seems anything good was Parcells or him just being lucky. Everything bad is all on him.

The cap has been improving under her. Miami used to have to cut players just to get under.

Right, its only taken 5 years so far.. Maybe in another 5 we will be in great cap position. Some vaunted capologist she has turned out to be.. She did such a great job with Cleveland. No wonder they fired her. She did such an awesome job there

can someone explain the language for me again? It means if someone signs him after we cut him they have to eat the guarenteed money?

Under the new CBA, rookie contract levels have been obliterated to a fraction of what they were. For example, the #8 overall pick in 2010 got a 5 year, $40 million contract. That was Rolando McClain. A quarterback would've gotten even more than that, even at the same #8 overall spot. Now under the new CBA, the contract levels are slotted. Last year, Jake Locker signed a 4 year, $12.6 million deal. You see the difference?

Since the rookie contracts have been decimated to such a large degree, the players are insisting that the new, much much much much smaller contracts be fully guaranteed. The NFL should be OK with this. After all, at #8 overall Rolando McClain had $23 million in guarantees and even fully guaranteeing Jake Locker's contract meant literally half of that in guaranteed money.

But the NFL, being the shysters that they tend to be, want language inserted in the fully guaranteed contracts that essentially doesn't make them fully guaranteed. They want it so that if they cut a player, they're no longer on the hook to pay whatever portion of the original contract remains unpaid, as long as he's making that amount from some other team. So let's say I signed you to a 4 year, $4 million fully guaranteed contract. I cut you after 3 years and you've made $3 million from me. The original $4 million was fully guaranteed to you. But if after I cut you, you go and sign with another team for $1 million, then I don't have to pay you that last $1 million.

I think it's stupid. There's a reason every other team is pretty much going ahead and fully guaranteeing these contracts. No, the Dolphins have not gotten into any holdout troubles with Ryan Tannehill yet. However, the PFT piece seems to be insinuating that the Dolphins are putting out word that they're the ONE team ready to dig in and hold strong over the insistence of that offset language.

Leave it to the Dolphins to get into a holdout situation over something incredibly SMALL and STUPID, after the new CBA essentially made signing rookies into kindergarten work.

What always grinds me ... we have HIGH Caps & sub-.500 teams .... Grrrrrr!!! Not all her fault (GM picks 'em), but more crapologist than capologist!!.... Grrrrrr!!!

If Aponte's name is mentioned in an article, expect retardation to follow.
