Philbin and Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Moore (Flynn)

Bottom-line; If Philbin wanted him badly enough, he'd be on the roster. Anyone who doesn't think all parameters regarding Flynn, his upsides, shortcomings, monetary value, etc. weren't discussed ad nauseum during Philbin's interviews is naive. What it looks like to me is that Philbin knew enough from seeing Flynn up close and personal to waffle on whether he'd actually be an upgrade over Moore based the film he's seen.

If it's in someone's agenda to see ghosts hiding in closets, well, if that if that helps a body reconcile their cognition with reality, hey, it's no skin off my back.. so have a ball.

I'll add that if it was Henne instead of Moore, Flynn would be here now. :idk:
Philbin doesn't make the calls, Ireland does. I think we wanted Flynn, tried to get cute with a contract and brought Alex Smith in to apply some pressure. Flynn said F-You and signed with Seattle. If you don't think this is a strong possibility please look at last years head coaching fiasco, Manning not even wanting to talk to us, Marshall being traded for 2 third round picks, and the way Bell was treated. Ireland is lost, much like Sparano was. Parcells really screwed us good twice and laughed his fat as$ to the bank!

Look at all that spin. It's like a ****ing merry go round. There are people here who happily lap this up. Go into negotiations with Flynn while not willing to go to 5M yet you'd give that to Garrard. Asinine.

Can't stand Ireland, but if Philbin didn't press hard enough for Flynn to get paid .... that says it all. This shouldn't even be an issue.

Bottom line is if Fins really thought he is flat out better than Moore than they would gave him his money. All pessimistic people need to realize this: Philbin wasn't sold on your beloved savior.

After 4 years, I don't think Philbin has anything to "find out" about Matt Flynn

You really think Joe Philbin knows how Matt Flynn will do as a starter outside GB ?

Practice isn't the same as game time. He might know Matt Flynn better than anyone else but he's still guessing to some extent

Some players exceed expectations in NFL games and some players disappoint

maybe they didnt want pay a backup with only 2 games exp. 8 mil a year. At least Garrard has played and went to a pro-bowl, and only 1 mil is guaranteed, I think

Maybe. But they brought him in and as stated they were looking to upgrade the QB position. There's no reason not to pay your starting QB 8M. That Seattle contract he signed is ideal because the commitment is so limited. It really is a test run. It's just as likely they bungled the negotiations and he chose the Seahawks.

There's no reason Garrard won't make the final roster. It's not like we have a ton of QB competition. So he's going to at least get that 3.5M. He was in a pro bowl with Vince Young. He's 34, been out of the league, and coming off injury. Don't get your hopes too high.

Lost in this whole QB conundrum is the fact the Matt Moore is only under contract for this season. Ireland in his infinite wisdom hasn't even made it a priority to extend the only QB he has so even if Garrard beats out Moore unless they draft a QB and trade Moore during the season he can simply walk at seasons end and there goes any potential trade.

This offseason has been simply:

In a word, yes

why the heck would you extend matt moore right now...when you have tried all offseason to upgrade him and don't believe in him as your long term fit...at least ireland hasn't done anything that dumb

as for matt flynn having to compete with tavaris jackson the moment flynn got $10 mil guaranteed that should have told you the seahawks want flynn to be the guy and us hearing the words "compete" is just to keep tavaris in line and make him think he has a shot at being the guy this year...but the hawks want flynn to be the starter...that contract should tell you that...and he'll get every opportunity to be that guy...jackson is competing with him about as much as moore would have with flynn had we ponied up the $10 mil guaranteed...none

Believe me my hopes for Garrard are anything but "high". Actually I would be high if I thought he was the answer. What he is thought is a serviceable back up QB. I believe that we are going to stick with Matt Moore, who IN MY OPINION, was pretty good last season. We will draft someone in next year's draft because there will actually be more QBs worthy of a high pick

so you think these guys go through 2012 without using a high pick on a qb??? wow...i can't see that at all...i can't see ireland getting away with that...i will be shocked if it goes down like that...

Gerrard has a great track record IMO, Flynn has merely 2 games with possible the best receiving corps in the league.

I guarantee you he turns into Kolb,

We got a deal in Gerrard, a veteran with something to prove.
