A what if...

It was originally suggested by Herm Edwards...

Lets say the Dolphins win out, finish 10 - 6 and make the playoffs...should Philbin be considered for coach of the year?

He would have manage to get his team in the playoffs despite losing his starting TE, number 3 WR, two starting lineman, starting CB and the teams most accomplished defensive player for part of the season all while keeping his team focused during this season biggest (while overblown) scandal. The team has had to deal with considerable media scrutiny and an extensive investigation by the NFL.

I will admit that I was ready to move on from Philbin several weeks ago, but this team keeps fighting despite the all they have experienced...if they do indeed win out and make the playoffs then he should at least be considered ( though Andy Reed will most likely get the honor).

considering how when all this crap started all I heard from the media was how Bullygate was going to eat our team alive and Philbin is going to get swallowed by the all saga, if he can get us into the playoffs I think he'd deserve it.

I mean right now only other guys I think would deserve nominations are Andy Reid, Bruce Arians, and Ron Rivera

I think he should be considered but Riverboat Ron will most likely receive the award and is very deserving of it.

I don't know how you could overlook Andy Reid. Taking KC from dead last has been an outstanding achievement. I'm not convinced that Rivera is suddenly great. He's had a lot of luck to be narrowly winning so many games.

He would and should certainly be in the conversation. By they way....if you get flammed...dont listen. I think its a great thread topic.

Reid deserves consideration for sure, but much like with what Sparano did with us in 2008 KC was viewed as a team that had talent but was poorly coached (they had the most pro bowlers in the NFL last year) so that may hurt him.

Honestly most impressed with what Rivera and Arians have done. Another reason why I'm sure Mike Shula will get some head coaching interviews, they don't have a lot of talent on offense to support Cam. You have an old Steve Smith, 2 often injured RBs, a decent TE, and then a bunch of guys. Plus their one starting guard was a DT last year

Philbin may be mentioned, but Reid or Rivera look to be the likely winners.

Probably not ol' Rex, though! :)

If he gets into the playoffs, he should be considered, but only if he gets in.

I like both Rivera and Reid as COY....it will depend on how the last 4 games play out, but based on the streak Carolina is on I would give the nod to Rivera...Ariens has been impressive as well.

First and foremost would love for Joe to even be in that conversation, because it means a fantastic end to the season.

I think two factors have to be present for Philbin to be considered as COY.
One: winning record and playoffs.
Two: He has to be come out of bully gate completely clean.
Like verifying that he was trying to clean up the mess(for example dump Cog after first scandal) but was being thwarted by other elements in the regime.
Any hint of involvement and he doesn't get it.

My money is on Ron Rivera.

If they win out then yes he would be in the running. I think he's done a good job keeping that team together through all the controversy, they just need to win games now. if they do he will be a very worthy candidate but that is a long way off.

Andy Reed is the Coach of the year already no matter what else happens

if not Bruce Arians would be my vote then Ron Rivera after him.

Philbin lost my vote when he came in with a flat team against a division opponent after a bye week and then again after ten days off. Losing to two teams with losing records.

When did he losethe starting QB? I don't believe he deserves it. Coach of the year should be able to beat the bills at home with 2 weeks to get reay for them and should be able to beat Tampa with 11 days to get ready. Both times the team came out flat. Yes he's done a good job of keeping theteam together but overall there's no way he's been the best coach this year

Ozzy rules!!
