Philbin to speak tomorrow at combine

Maybe Joe should bring in some former Packers or character guys from other teams that have played under Coyle and Benton?

Again not to take any blame away from Philbin, but his biggest mistake ended up relying on his mentor (Mike Sherman) on certain hires, and then deciding to be so hands off on offense. Now I have no problem letting your assistants do their own thing, but you need to know when to step in.

But yes, having gotten vets would have helped. Honestly, if Eric Steinbach and Artis Hicks could have stayed on even for a year as backups I think they would have helped Martin out as both were known as high character guys. Not saying a Tyson Clabo isn't, but he was never seen as a leader in Atlanta.

Miami blames GM + asst GM for roster, OC for offense, trainer + asst coach for oversight, Incognito for harassment, players for leadership.

Now I see this and while it is a valid point, during Joe's first season he got flak in training camp for doing stuff without talking to players. I also hear former players say that the players police the locker room.

Really in a lot of cases, the whole situation is a damned if you do, damned if you don't. For the whole organization. They don't talk they get bashed, they do talk they get bashed for what they say.

So the team votes for the guy to be their leader but the coach is supposed to step in and nullify the vote? How do you think the team would react to that? What kind of leader would attempt it?

Philbin gave a presser and didn't coach speak and its still not good enough for some of you.

Suddenly?

philbin should take part of the blame and i do think salguero's letter was read by members of the oraganization. how come a ton of people on here bash armando and omar kelly so often? in most instances they tell it like it is. there hasnt been much to be positive with this organization since 2001, what are they supposed to write positive articles even though this team has become the laughingstock of the nfl??

You really believe Miami read Salguero's article?

This is the biggest problem with Miami at this time. from what I hear and gather is there is just to many guys that are young and inmature in Miami with big money to blow and party. Some leadership is needed and needed bad. The roster is so young that there is no guidence. Miami the city is not a place for a young guy with a ton of money to be a pro athlete.

Miami need to get some vet direction. Philbin had the right idea when he stepped in and send B Marsh on his way, he sent ocho packing. When guys are showing up to practice drunk from last night you have a prob. on you hand. Esp when those guys are "star" players.

T suggs comes to mind as a guy that can take control of the locker room. Maybe a guy like Tillman can come in and have an influence. Somebody........... rather a few players are needed. There has been so much turn over that there is just no players that are fully invested.

Now Omar makes a good case as to what he has questions about for Philbin. Why didn't he follow up with Martin after his initial doctor's appointment? Why did he let things go because Martin seemed happy on meds 2 months after admitting to suicidal thoughts? Now THAT is a big **** up.

I see the bitching and moaning from the media and some fans is already in full force for what Philbin said this morning. No matter what he said people were going to rip him.

He got up in front of the media and addressed them head on, took responsibility and discussed that it won't happen again under his watch. He did the right thing today, but for some that will never be enough.

It was such a predictable reaction from the media. I expected nothing less. There was absolutely nothing that Philbin could say that would appease the media or would keep them from ripping him to shreds afterwards. I hope now that he faced the media and they got their pound of flesh for the week...that Philbin will go back to radio silence and concentrate on the task of putting the team together and getting wins on the field. If the team starts out slow next season...it's going to be a very long one for JP...all eyes will be on him.

For public knowledge here: He shares the same agent as Philbin and Hickey.

I like LeBatard but he really doesn't know anything about football.

Nope, but he does know media. After that tweet he even said, the media ripped him for days for not speaking. Now that he is speaking it's more reason to rip him. There was NOTHING Joe Philbin could have done to not get ripped.

He doesn't, but this isn't about football, this is about the human condition. And he's right. People were screaming for Philbin to be available to the press and speak. Now that he's come up and spoken, and said basically everything he could say short of "I resign," he's being pilloried again. Ridiculous.

That said, what the hell does "I take responsibility" mean? Is that like when a certain secretary of state "took responsibility" for a major SNAFU that resulted in a bunch of people dying and a subsequent cover-up about it? Because as far as I can tell, saying that you 'take responsibility' for something is a nice phrase that doesn't mean ****.

Knows as much as Mando, is more respected by the players than Mando (as Hartline's mocking of AS during his re-signing presser underscored), and is demonstrably about 30-IQ pts smarter - so if it comes down to the 2 of them, Dan's take should be the one more seriously considered.
