Philbin to speak tomorrow at combine

Nope, but he does know media. After that tweet he even said, the media ripped him for days for not speaking. Now that he is speaking it's more reason to rip him. There was NOTHING Joe Philbin could have done to not get ripped.

He was better offtanking the Bill Belicheat angle. Give you nothing to talk about me. All you can say about Bill is he is the HC. other than that............ NOTHING casue he does not speak.

I don't know how many times I'm going to have to bring up Joe Philbin's 9 minute end of season press conference in which he basically answered nothing and walked out with a bunch of questions still waiting to be asked, and compare it to Belichick's end of season press conference in which he answered everything at length and then asked reporters repeatedly if they had any more questions before closing it up.

It's a misconception that Belichick never says anything. He says plenty, just not after a loss and nothing the opposing team is going to put up on a locker room bulletin board.

He doesn't, but this isn't about football, this is about the human condition. And he's right. People were screaming for Philbin to be available to the press and speak. Now that he's come up and spoken, and said basically everything he could say short of "I resign," he's being pilloried again. Ridiculous.

That said, what the hell does "I take responsibility" mean? Is that like when a certain secretary of state "took responsibility" for a major SNAFU that resulted in a bunch of people dying and a subsequent cover-up about it? Because as far as I can tell, saying that you 'take responsibility' for something is a nice phrase that doesn't mean ****.

The whole thing basically was "I ****ed up, I did what my players wanted and it backfired on me" or that's how I read it. And really, that's all he can say. He's getting destroyed because the team voted Richie to the leadership council and he didn't overturn them.

Honestly I just don''t know what people wanted to Joe to say. All he can say is "I have to make sure it doesn't happen"

Nothing -- there's nothing he can say, because people want their red meat. I wanted Joe fired after the season; I still wouldn't mind it. But this stuff is pitiful.

If some of you folks love putting words in people's mouths so much, go get a job as a media consultant, public relations expert, or speechwriter.

Philbin did/said exactly what I expected him to.

It's called "coachspeak" and he executed it perfectly.

Unfortunately for him, Ross/Aponte have him so rehearsed that it doesn't seem genuine. I'm sure if Philbin was to be left to handle things on his own, we would've gotten a much more sincere presser.

Like how did he not know? Not much more than to say, "I wish I did?"

He fell on the sword appropriately.. saying it was his responsibility. But that's what he says often. Admirable, but somehow no admission of responsibility.

Some of the questions should be leveled at Ross. Which won't be coming this week.

I'm hoping that wasn't a shot at me, because if it was that's a bit uncalled for. Id have preferred he didn't talk. I didn't think there was a reason to talk, and I knew he'd get killed no matter what he said.

Sean Payton knowingly let his assistant coaches and players create a bounty program to hurt people. Media lets him keep his job and he gets contract extension.

Belichick breaks the rules and illegally video tapes other teams. Belichick also drafted and employed a serial killer, and gave him the money that Hernandez ended up buying the murder weapon with. Media lets him keep his job and he gets contract extension.

A few players in Joe Philbin's locker room says mean things to another player, yet the issue was never brought to his attention. Media lines up to burn Philbin at the stake.

Why would it be a shot at you? It was a shot at the people who are ripping on Joe for basically saying the only things he could say.

For instance, the post right above yours which states, "It was coachspeak."

What else did you want him to say? Let's hear it. What could Joe Philbin have said, other than "I am resigning as head football coach of the Miami Dolphins" that would have magically pleased you? I'll be here. Waiting.

Winning cures all.
(Doesn't hurt to have Goodell in your corner either)

This is so ridiculous.

Philbin treated his players like adults and gave them freedom. Individuals who should act professional and accountable. Instead he got a bunch of 10 year olds who don't know how to act professional. I didn't know the position of head coach included babysitting men in their 20s and 30s.

This is what gets me in all of this. Philbin allowed them to be grown men and they couldn't handle it but it is still his fault.

Philbin has probably been working on his prepared statement since the end of our last game. I'm sure everything is well rehearsed and will flow seamlessly. Then we can actually move on to the draft as opposed to focusing on this episode.

Pretty much. What's funny about it to me is that all of the people ripping Joe for not micromanaging every aspect of his players' fraternization and personal lives are probably the same people who hate it when their managers try to do the same things.

And Phibin also have a weekly show!

Again - I would prefer he says nothing. I live in NE I hear Belicheat every time he opens his mouth. He says nothing. Sure he had an end of the year press conference and his common line is "we will have to go back and meet as a staff before we make those decisions". I haveno problem with that answer. I am good with Philbins answer.
