Philip Merling on the Trade Block

Marty B as they call him in Dallas has been all bark and no bite.

Probably Merling and a late round pick for a back up TE. I don't want Bennett the guy is terrible. He can't block, he can't catch, he is big and can run fast thats it. Watched him last night he made a nice catch or two and then had a few bad drops.

John Carlson is the guy I want. Pete Carroll has done a poor job of managing his talent since he took over the team (Hasselback to Jackson) and maybe he will give up on Carlson.

Forget Merling for a second, if you can get ANYTHING of value for him in a trade, get it and don't look back....

The point is, I think there's subject to be a TE cut from one of these other teams, or a guy they'll try to stash on the practice squad that could help Miami. Again, Jeff Cumberland is a guy I've always liked since he came out of college...

You might be able to find a way to get Virgil Green or Julius Thomas from Denver just going off the top of my head...

Thomas just started Denver's last preseason game.

Andrew Quarless from Green Bay is a good young TE. Stuck behing Jermichael Finley.

Martellus Bennett is also pretty good from Dallas. Stuck behing Jason Witten.

John Carlson is injured and can't even get cleared for practice. I read today on Rotoworld that Seattle has major concern about Carlson's injury.
John Carlson - TE - Seahawks
According to Pro Football Weekly, the Seahawks are becoming "increasingly concerned" with TE John Carlson's shoulder injury.

The injury is to his labrum, which makes us wonder if it's a tear. He's been sidelined for over a week. Carlson's role in Seattle was dramatically reduced following the Zach Miller signing, so the team may not save his roster spot.

Denver does need some D line help. I don't know how interested they would now that they are running a 4-3 (I believe) and the way the Orton deal was handled. They tried to rob us and we tried to rob them. So there may be some animosity there. Also from the way it sounds their interest may have been for Langford.

Virgil Green is the one you'd have a better shot at obviously... Julius Thomas has probably locked up his roster spot, and has been the most impressive all throughout training camp...

I actually made a thread about some of the prospects I liked, and how they were performing in training camps around the league... Julius Thomas was one of 'em.

The Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly announced on WQAM's Michael Irvin show that Dolphins DE Philip Merling is on the trade block. Kelly says that any team with quality second string TE can have Merling.

Three teams immediately come to mind Packers, Seahawks, Cowboys.

The Seahawks took the TE we should have signed in Zack Miller... Who do you think is worthy on the Cowboys and Packers? No way Packers trade Finley for Merling straight up. No way Cowboys trade Witten and the Cowboys other TE (I forget his name) is garbage.. John Carlson would be a nice upgrade from Seattle.

You got Bennet in Dallas, who I believe Ireland might have drafted and in Green Bay you Finley, Quarles, Crabtree, Havner, DJ Williams & Ryan Taylor

It'll be martellus Bennett. Almost guaranteed. I'm actually okay with it too. Would love carlson but I think they wanna run 2tes like the pats. Maybe fasano and mserling for Bennett and a pick, but then Bennett has to start immediately

I didnt know Carlson was injured. That sucks.. As for Bennett, he is garbage. If we trade Merling for him Dallas better give us a 4th or 5th minimum.

I'm all for Quarless

He has potential to be a starting tight end and IMO unseat Fasano. The difference between having him in there and Fasano would be immediate. Whether we can get him or not is the question. I don't think Green Bay would be willing to part with him, especially since Finley is coming off of an injury.

Lolol at Merling bringing back a "quality tight end." Who would trade a good player for a guy that hasn't really done anything at all besides beat up women and get injured?
