Phins Send Five To Go See DT Wright

I wanted to give up a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, now i only want to give up atleast 5th maybe a 4th for him. I think that we could have some hidden talent in our other DT's like Josh Shaw or Dario Romero.

I was all for getting this guy. But if he can't show up in shape and can't bench press more than 16 times then he isn't NFL ready and not worth the pick in my opinion. Maybe round 5 or something, but not round 3.

This guy's career and whole life was preparing for this one day and he shows up out of shape and weak? Either he isn't that good or has a bad attitude.

I hope Saban avoids or at least plays it smart.

I totally agree... After spending so much time in order to get some picks back I would rather not waste a pick in next years draft on a lazy player who isn't ready. If he isn't going to play much this year, lets wait till next years draft to start blowing picks. I would take him in the 5th maybe the 4th if Saban liked him, but I can't see giving up a 1st day pick..

Lets face it Manuel Wright was the third best DL on USC. He failed to impress during the workouts and looked out of shape. He didnt seem strong and actually seemed weak for a man his size playing his position. I really was always skeptical. Weve seen what giving up pics for what we think as short term gap fillers can do. Spielman would have done it in a heart beat. We sent five showing interest and left before the workout was done. All and all im sure he will develop but we can get something better next year with our third rounder. We really have to keep building for the future. Huizenga is a great owner and is never financially strapped. I understand with questions on Chester and Bowens retirement we look weak up the middle but Zgonina,Carter,Holliday, and if Chester is okay we should manage. Lets face it we need a DT but just not him

we also have Keith Traylor and Kevin Vickerson at DT, I am kind of changing my mind about him after this. I still would like to get him but I think he's worth a 4th at best

I agree.

The guy has known for weeks about this workout....it could be the biggest day of his professional life...and he shows up unprepared?

I would'nt give up anymore then a 4th rounder. If some team jumps us and gives a third then tough break for us...I don't think he is worth a first day pick even though we have little depth at defensive tackle.

I want us to hold onto all of our first day picks...unless something to good to pass up comes along.

I am not to concerned about the guy being winded in workout. Look at Traylor, he will be sucking oxygen on the sidelines all year long. What does concern me though is his strength. I am 5'7" and 180lbs, 3 years ago I could push 225lbs 16 times when I was in shape. I am not bragging for there were guys 10 lbs heavier or lighter than me that were pressing over 400lbs. That does not bold well for a DT in the NFL.

Compare Crowder in the third to this guy, while we need a DT a third sounds offly high for him

Starting to make sense why such a talent was a career backup in college.

and?

Keith is 36, and its possible he might not make it through the year. Vickerson by all accounts was a long shot to make the roster anyway. He was only a 7th rounder, and has been late to meetings, and stuff like that....

In terms of Wright, I think he COULD be worth a third. I think that it would be the equivalent of a JP Losman, only we wouldn't give up a 1st for him.

He wouldn't be filling an immediate need. He's what, 21 right now? That means that if Saban thinks he's worth it, we could have a 22 year old DT (still younger than most rookies) next year with a year of the system under his belt that can possibly step into the starting lineup.

Even if he's a little out of shape now, TC would put him right into it. He wouldnt have to be pushed into the lineup, and could even just play a little here and there.

He will be drafted Thursday, its just a matter of where. Fans who aren't attending the workout can only by reports that could possibly be biased. For example, Gil Brandt had nothing but glowing things to say about Smith and Rodgers' workouts, but in reality, most other reports said that they were so-so.

Regardless, I hope that we at least take a chance somewhere, because it would be nice to have somebody that's 22 next year that already knows Nick's system.

he put on like 20 pounds in the last month or so...i think he's just been scarfing down whatever it is to get his weight up and not really working on benching or running...i think he put on the pounds for Miami Dolphins actually...we need DT the most..not only DT but a NT...he put on the pounds to be more attractive to Miami because we would spend a high pick on him and pay for him.

a 4th rounder would sound better. Put it in these terms: Is it wiser to

1. Take Wright this year with a 3rd/4th round pick and have him coached on technique and a year in the weight room

2. Use a pick next year on a DT.

Either way we need a future DT. I think even if we select Wright we will need another young DT capable of starting in the future.

Bench press reps are overrated. Altho sometimes its a good measure of strength, many times some individuals are just bad bench pressers. On my HS football team our top LB happens to bench less then all of the other ones.

Im not sure if this is the case for Wright, just throwing it out there.

I don't see reason for hysteria. Those five men sent were looking for something Nick wants. If they saw it, somebody saying he looked out of breath and him not doing well on the bench are either going to mean nothing or are going to mean Miami gets the player cheaper than we figured. If they didn't see it, he won't be a Dolphin unless he really falls far.

Nick will be choosy and will spend the team's picks wisely. I see no reason to question it so far.

remember at the combine when the RBs were running?

the Dolphins left when they heard that Benson wasn't running... that created a huge smokescreen.
