Phins talking point: Moore not going anywhere soon, Egnew not making an impact yet

he's making the team...he's just not gonna do anything...you got charles clay dropping the ball all over the place and this kid can't even get a sniff...he didn't separate from lbs in college he's definitely not gonna in the pros...this o is screaming for a true vertical seam threat with speed and size and a large catch radius at te and this kid can't even beat camp fodder coverage consistently...
I wouldn't give up on him yet hoops. I said before he was a project and probably wouldn't get on the field much this year. He has to learn the position from scratch but he has the ability, athletically, to be a good TE...don't think he'll be great and may never be a #1 TE but he'll be OK. I'm actually more intrigued by Les Brown and I hope we can stash him in the PS for a year.

ha ha...i tried to tell you guys michael egnew was way overdrafted and wouldn't separate in the pros....bad draft pick...

Eh I liked his athleticism and versatile receiving ability alot at MO so I'll give the kid a chance... It's upsetting to see that he hasn't shown anything yet by all accounts, though.

I think Clay had one day where he was "dropping balls all over the place" (the Peter King day), but otherwise reports say he has been looking good the rest of the days.

actually no they said and truth even provided evidence of it that he's been dropping the ball a lot...he's getting open which is great but you got to secure the catch...

Watched Egnew highlights after we drafted him - these are the players good stuff right? The good plays. Well, I think the longest play I saw was maybe 20 yards. He looked slow, never seperated, never broke a tackle after the catch, no stiff arms, no jukes, basically he looked really average. No mean streak as well.

An earlier poster said he's at 255, but man he looks thin. His legs look really skinny for a man his size. Kid needs major work if he ever wants to see the field. Les Brown looks like a better prospect IMO.

I absolutely hated the Egnew pick the moment we drafted him. The guy was average in college and had separation issues. I mean, a receiver/TE who CONSISTENTLY cannot create good separation at the college level? He will be a scrub in the NFL.

Once the bastard Colts took Fleener and the other TE, I forget his name, I thought we should have just found a different solution @ TE rather than pissing away a pick on this scrub. A freaking THIRD ROUND pick on this scrub.

the problem is, if you're trying to hold on to Matt Moore until some point early in the year, you may have already lost Pat Devlin.

...... and?

we got david garrard wearing a compression sleeve right now when he hasn't even taken any contact all camp yet...i just don't see how this guys gonna stay healthy for 16 games...he's already nursing something with no contact ha ha

Interesting. Wasn't aware of that. Something to monitor from here on out.

LES BROWN will be "poached" the minute he's put on the P/S. If everyone fails to appreciate his "measureables" (6'4"/240ish, 4.43 "forty", excellent drills, and a 39" vertical) and any progress that he shows, N.E. WON'T. Then you can add BROWN to GRONK and HERNANDEZ.

MARVELOUS!!!

To think we could of had Jimmy Graham instead of the Food Blister we drafter ahead of him.

Now, now, Rob. Let's be charitable here. Besides, there's no sense crying over spilt milk...I THINK...aw, ok, YEAH, That REALLY sucked Wazoo.

(I feel better now!)

Really is going to be a problem on O picking who makes the roster, people at QB, TE and WR that we want to keep to develop, not great players but players with potential. The decisions made now could dictate who we lose and it is a bit scary making the wrong decision.
On Egnew I know very little but it appears he was a real development prospect i.e. a load to learn that could take two years plus to have much of a clue, and even then he could be crap. But there is a reason he was drafted in the 3rd round and given how good the rest of the draft was I'm giving Ireland and co the benefit of the doubt.

I said the exact same thing. He's a workout warrior. He plays like a 4.7x player not a 4.5x player. Awful pick. Such a shame we are drafting guys like him in the 3rd when we would have easily drafted Graham in the 3rd in 2010 had it not been for Parcells' "system"

edit: To address some other points re: Les Brown/Pat Devlin

1) Brown is not going to be snatched up by some other team. Miami offered him a contract, a decent one at that (one with actual bonuses) and nobody seemed to match. He hasn't done much, and likely won't be a very hot item if stashed on the PS. It's where he belongs. As does Matthews. Cunningham will be cut. NE will NOT put him on their roster. They have no room for him.

2) Devlin has a ceiling of "mediocre backup". That's it. No team will put him on the starting 53.

Yup, i said the same thing. His stats at the combine were an aberration b/c he never played that fast. Even when he was an all-american in 2010 i wasn't that impressed with his game....thought he was more a product of the system at Mizzou.

Egnew was badly coached, IMO. I don't believe his skills were developed one bit at Mizzou. I think they just ran him out there as a big receiver-type target on a limited number of routes.

This kid can separate. This kid can block. This kid can be a reliable target. Someone just needs to show him and half an offseason is a bit early to be calling it a waste of time. He needs more teaching.

But he's way behind a guy like Fleener (who in my view is 80% coaching/practice and 20% talent).
