Phinz DL : Needs More Pressure!!!

Plummer is tough to sack. Last year, he was sacked 15 times in 521 attempts. That's less than 1 per game and 1 every 35 attempts.

I don't expect to see too many OLs that are much better than Denver's nor to I expect to see to many QBs with more escapability than Plummer.

Don't bash me here. Most of you may think I'm crazy for criticizing this defense, but the competition is going to get tougher from here on out, and I think this is a legit concern....

One thing that stood out yesterday, was the lack of a consistant pass rush. Sure, there were tons of "pressures", but no sacks. I'm not going to complain all things considered, but if we're truly going to make some waves this year, we'll need to get more physical up front. The Broncos were worn down, but we wont have the humidity to rely on when we're on the road this year. Especially when NOV / DEC roll around....

I was very impressed with the way we stacked up though. DT K. Traylor is turning out to be a very wise, late off-season addition. He was a major force yesterday in stopping the run, and I think once we made the Broncos offense one demensional, the game was ours.....

Considering how skiddish Pennington looked yesterday when facing the blitz, we'll need to do the same if we expect to beat the Jets on their home turf. They'll be out for blood this Sunday, so I'm not expecting us to just waltz in there and push them around. The Jets are going to be playing this game like their season depends on it. We'll be flying high. Not a good situation for us IMO....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I agree.

No question it was effective. Very effective. I'm just worried about us being able to continue that trend whe we're faced up against the stronger OL's out there this year....

But for now, I can live with "effective". It made the entire defense effective too...Maybe I shouldn't worry so much....

That was one of the stronger OL's out there. Their runningbacks don't make their running game consistantly awesome... you must realize that now... they're on like their 10th 1k+ runner in 10 years. Indeed, they have a very good OL that we seemed to abuse at times.

I, for one, salivate at what we will do to a less capable offensive line.

I actually would have liked to see a bit more pressure as well. There were a couple of times when Plummer had all day to throw and didn't need to scramble to do so. Our secondary took care of that problem though by locking down the recievers. I'm not really worried about that though, it is something I expect to improve. My main concern is run blocking. We had success on offense because of good pass protection and a solid passing game, but many times Ronnie had to make his own holes. I know it seems wrong to criticise any part of the team after a great win, but I would like to see this team be as good as they can be. Plus the 24 hour rule is about up.

we need to remember that taylor and others all said that we didnt show them much on defense this week either. I'm sure we'll see alot more blitzes in the days to come

Plummer didn't exactly look comfortable to me yesterday.

I'll shut up for now, but if we fail to generate the same pressure on Pennington that we had on Plummer, I'll be back with this topic. The Jets OL looked like it was overmatched yesterday, but you have to know they wont be coming out soft this Sunday, they'll more than likely be breathing fire....

Understood, even my dad was noticing that there wasn't too much pressure as you'd think such a romp. However, we didn't blitz or frankly even show almost anything on defense. Saban probably had the playbook ready, it's just he decided to save it all for the Penny and the Jets...

don't forget bronco have a decent line. This is the nfl. we can't totally man handle the entire team. I was very satified. I am still cautious till ricky comes back though. With ricky and ronnie we will be awesome.

Bro what are you talking about more pressure...obviously it would be great to keep on improving but i thought the pressure was good...compared to wandsted years when we the qbs had all day to throw....

2 sacks dont make or break a game. The pressure was fine and will only get better.

just because we didn't get sacks doesn't mean we didn't have consistent pressure a lot of times they took bad angles
