That 3rd and 8 play could have been very easy 6 for the Bears if the D-lineman was looking for a pass to Carey!! You can't throw that pass into the line like that.
When he has time he looks fine, but we all know our line will not give it to him, so he needs to learn to move in the pocket and not panic, if he does this, he can win the job.
Doc, I stand by my statement. Gus is in his 12th year, he has proven that he is not starting material....8 years ago he made a pro-bowl with 17 tds and 12 INTs....that the BEST he's ever done....8!! years ago.....that's not going to get me excited about Gus winning the starting job.DrAstroZoom said:I think it could get quite a bit better, once he has better line play and doesn't have Lamar Gordon as his #1 RB.
I wouldn't be coming after you like this if you hadn't strayed from your original premise: A.J. didn't play badly enough last night to get thrown under the bus like many are admittedly doing this morning.
But when you strayed gradually from that to a devaluing of Gus, I had to respond. Gus has essentially had one shot to prove he could be "the man" and not a backup. That was in Denver.
Who was dumped as well because shanny hated that he lost accuracy on the run.... :tongue:WharfRat said:You mean like Brian Greise?
Gus had 3 chances; wash, det, and Denver where he lost out to griese who knew the offense better.rickeyrunsover said:Gus had one chance? Try three. Wash, Cinci and Detroit. HARRINGTON WAS NOT THERE WHEN GUS WAS! I said Gus is ahead right now from mear comfort in teh system and AJ needs to step up over teh next 2 weeks. But to say that Gus has had ONE chance is wrong.
inFINSible said:Do you understand what a career back-up means? It means that that player is NOT starting material. Gus has shown that that's what he is, AJ still has a chance to shed that label.
Better chance than Gus, no matter how slim it is.touborg said:Are you kidding me? Behind Harrington in college after he got injured, 3rd on Phillys depth chart, couldn't beat out Fiedler last year, doing a poor job of beating out Frerotte this year. That's a pretty slim chance.

Detroit he played adequately but was on a god awful team.
Cincy he was babysitting for Akili Smith

SkapePhin said:Babysitting? If I recall correctly, he was being brought in to START in Cincy.. and he flopped and flopped hard.. He was given the reigns and did nothing.. Akili was DONE at that point.
Although, After seeing brief moments of him in Minny, I think he finally found a system that works well with him.. Its possible he could pull a Rish Gannon, but I wouldnt hold my breath.
