Play by play analysis...Feeley led offense...

He didn't play horrible, the other three just played better. He will have more snaps this sat. He needs to grab the bull by the horns and start playing better. It's that simple, he still has his shot.

That 3rd and 8 play could have been very easy 6 for the Bears if the D-lineman was looking for a pass to Carey!! You can't throw that pass into the line like that.

When he has time he looks fine, but we all know our line will not give it to him, so he needs to learn to move in the pocket and not panic, if he does this, he can win the job.

How was a d-lineman going to catch a ball that hit Careys ankle?

I said that stat wise play wise both looked good, but Gus has teh edge because he seemed more comfortable in teh pocket, more poised. Course it was the second team, but he had a natural slide that didnt appear to be tentative. I liked that and nooticed AJ hesitated too much under pressure, tho not so much teh Urlacher play. But, to say that the throw into the ground was a bad decision is wrong IMO. he threw it into the ground, noone was getting it. No the pass to CC that was a bad decision even tho it was at the feet, teh db could have had a running start and dove to get it, he had reaction time. Other than that I liked what Feeley ddid.

Oh and locking on receivers, Gus did that last nite as well. Not as much, but he did.

I think it could get quite a bit better, once he has better line play and doesn't have Lamar Gordon as his #1 RB.

I wouldn't be coming after you like this if you hadn't strayed from your original premise: A.J. didn't play badly enough last night to get thrown under the bus like many are admittedly doing this morning.

But when you strayed gradually from that to a devaluing of Gus, I had to respond. Gus has essentially had one shot to prove he could be "the man" and not a backup. That was in Denver.
Doc, I stand by my statement. Gus is in his 12th year, he has proven that he is not starting material....8 years ago he made a pro-bowl with 17 tds and 12 INTs....that the BEST he's ever done....8!! years ago.....that's not going to get me excited about Gus winning the starting job.

and if he couldn't win the starting job in Denver with their running game, he aint going to do any better here, even if he had Jim Brown running behind him.

If we get better line play, Feeley will be better too.

The hoo-ha about better offensive rythym is simply because the play calling changed dramatically to account for the Bears blitzing all the time.

Gus played slightly better than AJ last night, there's no arguing that but, with his experience and playing against second stringers, he should have played much better. He didn't though, because he IS a second stringer.

It's official, we've entered ...

We'll see what Saturday holds in store.

Gus had one chance? Try three. Wash, Cinci and Detroit. HARRINGTON WAS NOT THERE WHEN GUS WAS! I said Gus is ahead right now from mear comfort in teh system and AJ needs to step up over teh next 2 weeks. But to say that Gus has had ONE chance is wrong.

Gus had 3 chances; wash, det, and Denver where he lost out to griese who knew the offense better.

Detroit he played adequately but was on a god awful team.

Cincy he was babysitting for Akili Smith

As Saban alluded to... if a team is gonna play 8 men in the box daring you to pass. You must...pass! Our biggest running play was a draw / delay by Morris for about 8/9 yards. When a blitzer comes, the quarterback must make a "hot read" and throw to the vacated area... quickly! Can AJ do it? Have faith in this coaching staff; if Linehan realizes, we'll have to pass 90% of the time to win, he'll do it. This is not the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offensive mediocrity we've been used to.

Do you understand what a career back-up means? It means that that player is NOT starting material. Gus has shown that that's what he is, AJ still has a chance to shed that label.

Are you kidding me? Behind Harrington in college after he got injured, 3rd on Phillys depth chart, couldn't beat out Fiedler last year, doing a poor job of beating out Frerotte this year. That's a pretty slim chance.

Better chance than Gus, no matter how slim it is.

Babysitting? If I recall correctly, he was being brought in to START in Cincy.. and he flopped and flopped hard.. He was given the reigns and did nothing.. Akili was DONE at that point.

Although, After seeing brief moments of him in Minny, I think he finally found a system that works well with him.. Its possible he could pull a Rish Gannon, but I wouldnt hold my breath.

He was doing pretty good in Washington until his injury. I didn't count Cincy or Detroit because he appeared in four (edit: whoops! five) games in one stop and nine in the other. I don't count that as being given a chance to be a starter.

It's funny your mentioning Gannon, because he toiled in obscurity for 10 years before turning it around, and he was productive for four years thereafter. Not saying that will happen with Gus, but the hooky sppoky signs are there, if you want to hunt for 'em. ;)
