***POST GAME DISCUSSION - PHINS/JAGS***

I read this post and my first thought was that we could use Bernie Parmalee; I think he worked at UPS. I did a search to verify that it was Bernie who worked at UPS, and to my surprise Bernie Parmalee is now working as a Running Backs Coach in the NFL... for the Jacksonville Jaguars!
Wow hahah I was actually thinking about Bernie tongue in cheek. He’s way better than anyone currently on our roster lol.

My thoughts...

On Tua: I'm not totally giving up on him. I think he potentially has what it takes to be a successful, top-10 QB in this league. Hats off to him considering the parade of ****ery that's currently dancing around him.

On the HC: I was super high on Flo last year and have completely given up on him. I get that he will probably finish out the year but he has to be gone once we play our last game.

The rest of the team: we're ****ed.

Surprisingly enjoyable football game. I predicted 23-20 Miami, which looked very likely in the last minute of the game, but then we got 23-20 Jax. My thoughts:

- We just watched two really good young quarterbacks playing for two really bad football teams. Trevor Lawrence is going to be an All-Pro, and I thought Tua looked great, too. The interception was a fine decision, he just botched the throw. It happens sometimes, and I can live with that.

- Outside of the quarterbacks, I thought the play of basically everyone in this football game was unremarkable. Gesicki had a couple of nice chunk plays, but also reinforced my opinion of him as the Ted Ginn Jr. of tight ends. You've got one guy ahead of you, he's a much smaller guy, and you run for the sideline instead of trying to cut in on him or trucking him? Would rather avoid contact than try to make a play? NGMI - Not Gonna Make It.

- Dolphins gameplan was to throw the football, which is fine, Jacksonville has the worst pass defense in the NFL and the Dolphins basically can't run the ball. Unfortunately, you still have to at least TRY to run the ball, in order to take pressure off of the pass protection, push the opposing DL and LB, and maintain the credibility of your offense. Bad coaching.

- Legitimately happy for that Jacksonville kicker. Kid gets picked up off the street, flies to London, kicks a couple of moon shots to give a floundering team its first win of the season.

- Urban Meyer made a huge coaching blunder and tried to give this game away to the Dolphins by going for it in chip shot FG range, up by 4 points late. I really can't fathom why you wouldn't take the field goal attempt there. If you're desperate for a win, you make the call that makes you much more likely to win. I almost feel like he was trying to get fired.

- Brian Flores saved Urban Meyer from his own stupidity by being about ten times more stupid. The 4th and 1 call late in the game from the Dolphins was, I thought, really terrible. You call a rushing play when you've struggled to even get the ball back to the line of scrimmage on rushing attempts during the game, when Tua is red and is the kind of guy who can run RPO ? Absolutely boneheaded and gutless to not put the ball in Tua's hands there.

- Brian Flores with a couple of bad challenges trying to overturn calls on the field that there's absolutely no good replay angle to call otherwise. On the punt play, they gave the Dolphins plenty of time to think about it, and just when it became really obvious that there was absolutely no replay angle that would overturn the call, Flores throws the flag. Because he's dumb.

- Brian Flores again with the dumbass decision. Jacksonville has two timeouts remaining and is facing 4th and long from outside of field goal range. The game is tied. The clock is ticking down, twenty seconds to play... and instead of using your last time-out, you wait and let Jacksonville run it down to 5 seconds? This is a tactical error.

Let me explain: If Jacksonville has to run a play on 4th down with 20 seconds left on the clock, they will probably punt the football! Because failing to convert -- or missing a field goal -- means Miami will get the ball back with a little bit of time left near midfield. If you call your timeout immediately, you force overtime. The Jaguars are the team that wants to take time off the clock, because they are about to take a last ditch effort to win the game on 4th down at midfield. Jacksonville is the team that wants time to run down. If they decide to run a Hail Mary, they want it to be the last play of the game. If they decide to attempt a field goal, they want it to be the last play of the game. And if they are going to attempt to convert on a quick pass, they want there to be one second left on that clock at the most. Bad timeout strategy.

- The Dolphins seemed unprepared for the quick conversion attempt with 5 seconds left on the clock at the end of the game. Why? Conversions like that are possible, and have happened before. Dolphins were caught off-guard. Coaching.

- Urban Meyer blundered badly and yet still outcoached Brian Flores by a pretty wide margin. I think that sums it up for this game.

- Not having what is right now possibly the first overall pick in the NFL draft stings. Seeing Jaylen Waddle used like Devone Bess doubly stings.

House cleaning is in order and is surely coming. Signed, sealed, and soon to be delivered. George Costanza is gonna have to find a new job.
We’ll stated

I will never understand how you refuse to run the ball all game and then take the ball out of Tua’s hands with the game on the line. Despite my most desperate wishes Tua isn’t going to be enough to overcome this inept offensive play calling.
Inept is an understatement. If you look at the dolphins the first drive is always the best drive. After that you know the game is going to go downhill because the offensive coordinators have no idea of how to call a game. Add into that Flores and his mismanagement of the clock, mismanagement of understanding where they are in the game and it’s a recipe for disaster. For all of the good that Flores (first year?), has done as a coach he’s undone most of it with his stubbornness.

People can spin it however they want but when you don’t have an offensive line, 3 rb’s that are all 2nd string at best and your best wr is a rookie it’s hard to blame the QB.
They had 3 starters missing on their line and No name rb

Flores coaching was bizzare and erratic last year . This is the crux of it all this year.

#1 that was a catch by Gaskin...they confused his knee for the football...#2 the ball 100% touched the returners hand...and I never complain about officiating...Flores looked like he was hungover today
That wasn't a catch...should have been, but it wasn't.

When your offensive line allows pressure with 3 rushers, and can't block for 1 yard with the game on the line, they not only suck, they have no heart.

Yeah, this might be the worst team in the league. I thought several calls went against Miami and I'm not sure there was time on the clock for that last play. But it doesn't cover up that the Dolphins couldn't beat the Jaguars.

Couple of positives. The pass protection was actually really good. I realize Miami mostly used quick passes, but that makes sense with Tua coming back.

Love how Tua responded after throwing the interception. The ensuing drive may have been Miami's best. At times, the offense looked explosive with Tua.

The defense had two consecutive big stands late with the forced turnover and 4th down stop.

I hate the run up the middle call on 4th and one. The running game was pretty ineffective. Why not run outside, or roll Tua and give him an option?

Still need better balance on offense.

It falls on coaching for the mental discipline errors and lack of situational awareness both by players and coaches. No way you let the first down happen with 5 seconds left and not run out the clock, defenders not turning their heads, penalties, run play on 4th and 1, Wilson going backwards 2 yards from first down, just too many to count. All those can be coached.

IMO he was pretty good. I remember him having over 800 yards rushing one year. Considering that they didn't run much with Marino and rarely had a 1000 yard rusher, that was an impressive season.

We play the second worst team in the NFL and lost .

This is a fireable game for Chris Grier and Brian Flores. Flores made some of the absolute worst coaching decisions I've seen in the 4th quarter, and we have had to suffer through the likes of Wannstedt, Cameron and Philbin. The decision to go for it inside Jacksonville territory at the end was the dumbest ****ing bullshit. It showed no respect for the Jacksonville defense and sure enough they made us pay in the end. Jacksonville is not a good football team; only the Dolphins can make them look good. The quick pass at the very end that Shenault caught, the Dolphins defender shouldn't have touched him and the clock would have reached triple zeroes and we at least play into overtime. Woefully bad situational awareness by the defense, and that falls completely on Flo.

We finally get a good look at Noah Igbinoghene and we now know why he's inactive every game. Of course Iggy is the guy who gets Mossed...by MARVIN JONES?

Tua makes this team better. He makes the offense better. We can clearly see that. But he's only one guy.

Last year was clearly a fluke, with this team largely regressing in every possible way. I have zero faith that it will get any better and at this point I've seen enough.
