Pouncey open to playing Guard

I've always preferred Pouncey at G. To me he is a natural LG who looks like he would do a very good job at RG too. And anything that keeps Dallas Thomas off the field is a good thing.

I'm shocked but very pleased to hear they are considering Pouncey at G. I really hope it happens.

Down the road we can continue to develop Smith and Turner at OG and when they are ready shift Pouncey to C and replace Colledge. This looks like the best path for this OL.

Also, while we are entertaining putting OL in their best slots, I'd prefer to see Ju'Waun James move over to LT when Albert retires or gets injured. James isn't much of a run blocker, but solid pass protection is enough for a LT these days.

Well, well, well...it took a while but it seems folks have come around to what I've been saying since free agency was open. I was a huge proponent for Alex Mack then to take over center so Pouncey could move to guard. When I asked about this very thing a few weeks ago got roundly derided. So yeah, I'm not crazy. As long as Satele continues to play well moving Pouncey to guard makes the most sense rather than try to get one of the other linemen to play up.

Ah yes, I think I'll just smile. :)

Satele does NOT have the quickness to play OG he's either C or a benchwarmer.

Considering OG get paid 2X vs C I'm sure this is a business decision.

Wow seems anyone who mentioned this earlier this year was drug thru the mud and called silly.... Seems those were the silly ones... Even if it doesn't happen, it's not a tin hat idea, and as such is really being discussed in the locker room

I started a post way back commenting about this possible move, and received negative responses from some people here..... :ponder:

It's a little surprising that he is so open to playing guard. I thought for sure he would want to stay at Center because the money is better there. Maybe he just really likes playing guard more. He seems pretty excited about the position.

It did seem like Pouncey might have been telegraphing the snap count at times last year by shifting his head, maybe that account for many of the times when the defenses seemed to get a jump on the OL?

It definitely would be for the best if Satele stayed at C with Pouncey at G as long as Satele continues to perform well.

Not that I'm an expert at grading interior o-line play but it makes a lot of sense to me. I think you get a bigger bang for your buck in replacing RG with a huge upgrade in talent over replacing center for what may only be a slight upgrade. I thought the difficult bit would be getting Pouncey to buy in to that idea but it sounds like he's fully on board.

Pouncey >satele
Pouncey>>>any other RG
As long as it isn't permanent and we put him back at center next season after we draft a stud rg I'm good with it. Albert, colledge, satele, pouncey, James >>>>>>last season's o-line.

well Pouncey is a huge upgrade over Satale at center and probably a huge upgrade over any guard we have.
Satale is not an upgrade at guard at all. So best to play Pouncey at guard for now, hopefully we are good enough next year where Satale is not our center

I've been hearing this ever since Pouncey became the starting center. If true, why didn't the coaches notice this? Opposing d-lines always seemed to have the jump on the o-line at the snap. The overall line play has been better this year without Pouncey, and even though there was an upgrade in talent it's possible that Pouncey was a liability at center.

LOL No.

Pouncey is a better Center than Satele ever was.

I do think there's something to pouncy having a tell on his snaps. He never draws offsides. When hes not playing we draw offsides so there's some tell. But otherwise Pouncy is an elite blocker

Pouncey is extremely physical at center and an awesome puller. I love his style of play but man, all you had to do was use your eyeballs to see how many times he gave away the snap count last year. He makes a distinct head check down and up every instantce before he snaps the ball. With last years awful o line play it just made me pay attention to it that much more. He's so good it gets overlooked a lot. If he switches to guard it could make this OL boderline dominant. If he stays at center I hope he gets rid of that bad habit.

Pouncey's head bob was definitely a tell but I'm pretty sure no hard counts and "go" go go" was the bigger contributor to the lack of offsides being drawn.
