Pouncey to RG? Jordan to SLB/DE?

Go back and watch Pouncy at center, his last year at Fl. and you will know why he is a better guard...plus that head bobbing thing..

I don'tsee them moving Pouncy. He loves to play center a whole lot better than he likes to play guard so as long as he's stays out of jail I think he'll play center. I agree that Jordan should play LB and not END. In fact, I believe his best position would be as an OLB on a 3-4 which we don't use. That is why I couldn't believe we moved up to get him but what's done it's done. We need to get something out of him and I don't believe we'll get it by him playing END.

Ozzy rules!!

don't fix something that is not broken, Pouncey is considered by many the best center in the NFL yes he can be a monster G but center is a more important position so I´d prefer to bring mack to play G or even get a great LT and have incognito at G. and also say that if you think koa misi is not a top LB just watch the games he was hurt ...our LB corps got torched all day on running plays.

Im surprised at the amount of guys here that wont support a Pouncey change to Guard.

Pouncey is a good Center, but at Guard he'd be incredible.

I just don't think he's got the smarts to play that position. Let's just say he is no Tim Ruddy.

Honestly, if Mack or one of the other good centers could be had for a reasonable price, or a good C drops to us in the draft, then sure, I'd consider it. Personally, I have no problem with Pouncey playing LG (mobility more useful there than RG IMHO). But, he 's doing well at C, so unless we get a great steal ... I'm comfortable keeping him at C.

In a ZBS there's not much difference between LG and RG. Interchangeable, really. If I were going to move Pouncey to guard it'd probably be to RG -- since he's played there before -- but really what I'd be looking to do is pairing him with the weaker tackle. Like, if we end up starting a Ryan Harris at RT, then all the more reason to have Pouncey at RG, especially if we can land an Anthony Collins to play LT.

Don't centers make a whole lot more than guards? How would Pouncey react to a move considering the pro owl accolades he has achieved at center? Kind of a kick in the nuts and embarrassing to say the least if they moved him IMO. that being said if its for the betterment of the team but at what expense if he's miserable.

I wish we had kept Tony McDaniel and played a 34. Soliai on the nose with Odrick and Starks as ends with McDaniel rotating at end.

I stand by my view that we should keep both Starks and Soliai. How many freaking Marvin Austins come through here before we realize its a crapshoot. If you have strong d linemen, you keep them. If you were around from about 1985 to 1995 or so, in the height of Danny's powers, we could never find D linemen. I mean, Chuck Klingbeil, Brian Sochia, Alfred Oglesby, TJ Turner, blah blah blah. I am still traumatized.
john Bosa, Eric Kumerow, Mike Charles, George Little - the guys you listed probably had 5 career sacks between them. And they got pushed all over the field - no wonder we could never get off the field on 3rd down. So painful. I agree - in today's NFL you can't have too many good D linemen. Find a way to keep Soliai and Starks.

I also think we should go 3-4. It would benefit Ellerbe, who played very well in Baltimore's 3-4 and Jordan who best fits in a 3-4. I think Stark's play trending down a bit so I'd be okay with letting him go, especially with all the needs Miami has on the offensive line. That said, I would definitely look to draft a DT as I agree with you and watched those terrible Dolphin defenses that kept Marino out of the super bowl.

Agree with some that Jordan should be OLB in the 3-4. Gives him of a chance to use his mobility than keeping him as a 4-3 DE. Assuming we stay 4-3 he's got a long way to go not only from a size and strength perspective, but his total lack of natural pass rush moves leaves much to be desired. At least as an OLB he can use his plus speed and allows us to move him around a bit more.

I actually think he could help solve our yearly problem of defending big fast TE's down the field. Part of me even wondered if he could take a few snaps on O this past year as a TE given he gave us very little on D. He's got that Jimmy Graham type of body.

if kubiak is signed as ocoord we dont need to spend big on oline at all. He hits on late round oline anywhere he is with his zone blocking scheme

Ironic thread because I watched the second Jets game last night and those were the two guys I focused on. I agree with futurescout in that I don't see Pouncey as a premier center. He has nowhere near the powerful explosion of Dwight Stephenson, nor the tenacity of Jim Langer. Nice player who is overhyped around here largely because he compares favorably to the majority of Ireland's picks.

We could really use a rugged nasty type at center like Mawae to free Pouncey to use his athleticism at guard. The guy I wanted in the draft last year, Brian Schwenke, could have filled that bill nicely. He can also play guard or center. If your most athletic guy is at guard he can drift to help out with struggling tackles.

The best thing I can say about Dion Jordan is that he never quits out there and chases the play to its finish, unlike many of our defenders. His special teams background undoubtedly contributes to that. Otherwise, Jordan is not close to competent defensive end level right now. He's stunningly slow off the snap, to the point the tackle is already backpeddling and looking at Jordan as if to ask if he's actually going to do something. It's like a chess player frustrated that his opponent is frozen and won't make a move. Late in the year Jordan seemingly understood he needed a greater variety of moves. But his solution was ridiculous. He started swinging both arms side to side as if juking the tackle. That led to being stuck in space instead of utilizing his great asset of length per stride.

At Oregon I liked Jordan better on the left side. I really think he's more natural there and uses leverage better on that side, even if it's Wake's position. Jordan doesn't display any ability to vary his rush technique on the right side. Looping up the middle he's okay when he starts outside from a cover position and then is sent on an interior blitz, other than he somehow keeps his hands at Sugar Ray Leonard level instead of high and extended.

Tons of work required with that guy. If he were on any other team I certainly wouldn't be scared of him.

that's well said...usually a guy that gets off the snap that slow would not be able to gain the corner and the shoulder like jordan has shown he can...the length per stride is the reason he's not just washed out every time given that get off...very well said

shore up the get off of the snap which i'm really struggling with why someone wouldn't be coaching that up and running the ball on a stick simulating the snap with him drill to get his quick twitch explosion some work til the cows came home...it would make such a difference cause as you said his length per stride once he does get going gives tackles fits...

one other thing that frustrates me is he's so fluid a hip and cod athlete every time he gained the inside shoulder and the corner he continued on a straight line and would usually get run by the qb with an arm trying to reach to the inside and grab the qb on the way by...where was the ability to flatten out to the qb and open his hips when he gained the corner and discard the tackle on a clean route to the qb??? it probably has a lot to do with being so light in the pants tackles could just move him off the preferred line once they got beat by riding him from the side saddle so to speak...

that kids way too fluid to continue on a straight path once he gains the corner...learn to flatten to the qb and we will get more finish...

You move Pouncey to LG because it is a BIG need for the team to get better. There is no one better in FA or, the draft. We do have options at C in Brenner IF he takes a big step forward or, my choice in Deitrich-Smith from GB.

Jordan is a bit of a puzzle. We all want him to get after the QB, which he will do no matter where he plays. However, IMO, he could be the best cover player in the NFL in covering TE's. This is HUGE for any team in today's NFL, and it is up to Philbin and Coyle to figure out how he can do both, like a JT Wild Card. How important is being to take a TE away from any O?
