Pouncey Update

Per Jeff Darlington's Twitter doctors have prescribed him meds in order to try to avoid him having his gall bladder removed. They're trying to get him on the field sooner rather than later.

Is this the right move? In 2013 I don't think gall bladder surgery is all that invasive. Wouldn't he just miss a game or 2?

Every case is different. I had mine out a couple of years back (seems to be a genetic thing in my family) and they put five punctures in me to do it. Took a couple weeks to heal but after that your body also needs time to adjust. The way it was explained to me is your gallbladder regulates the amount of bile in your system which is used to break down fats. Without the gall bladder, for some period of time (different from person to person but the average, I was told, is 6 months) any fats you eat will cause the body to dump bile into the system unregulated resulting in stomach issues that will have your running for the border quite often. In my case, I had to skip breakfast and lunch on workdays for about 8 months because if I ate the former I ran the danger of not being able to leave the house. And if I ate the latter, I'd spend half my workday in the bathroom. It wasn't pretty.

So while the wounds may heal, he might find himself not quite at full strength due to food consumption limitations he'd have to endure.

Roman/Finfanpat/Anyone - Excuse my ignorance, what is the root cause of gall bladder dysfunction? Is it linked to any other issues?

Yeah I think part of it may be diet related, but sometimes your gall bladder just goes bad. I was about 40 pounds overweight and this may have contributed to it? I have had probably 15 kidney stones in the past twenty years, but I never had any gallstones. I just started feeling this abnormal pain and often it was after eating certain foods. So I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound done and they injected me with some dye, and my doc told me it had to come out. I didn't feel any pain from the surgery and didn't think I even had the surgery after I woke up . They give you some great drugs to put you out. If your gonna have surgery, this is probably the better type to have.

I also agree that getting hit by 300 pound defenders after surgery may not be a good thing. From what I am hearing, Pouncey may have to deal with some issues related to the Aaron Hernandez case. Hopefully he won't be in any hot water.

My guess is he's got gall bladder stones. And in case you're wondering, no, it's probably not because of the drugs Richie Sr. kept going on about.

In my case, I had no stones. The gall bladder just went bad on me and the infection spread to my pancreas resulting in pancreatitis. But like I said, I think sometimes it's genetic because a lot of people in my immediate family have had theirs removed.

I have been having some weird side/stomach issues. Nothing major just annoying as it comes and goes. Thought it was because the new kegerator in the new man cave.. maybe a gall bladder?

Mine was diet related. I was actually on a diet and lost 50 lbs in 3 months. Then I had horrible pains every night. Turns out my gallbladder was full of gallstones and my Dr said it can be caused by not eating enough calories. I didn't know that at the time lol. Madmic21 if u have gallbladder issues you will definitely know it. If its anything like mine was the pain is so bad u can barely move.

Exactly the symptoms I had. Pain on the right side at the base of the rib cage. Honestly I was worried about booze and my liver (I'm a Dolphin fan after all), and was relieved when the GB function test showed mine not working. It's become a pretty common issue/surgery.

Drink more water. And I'm not talking about Coors Light.

i wonder what symptoms he was having to cause him to have it looked into, and eventually missing last weeks game. is it likely it was just pain?

He went to take a leak after practice and a Glock 21 fell into the urinal. That's when they knew it was serious.

More than that. I bet surgery knocks him out for the rest of the season.

Its nothing, I just had mine out. I left the hospital within an hour and was back to work in 3 days. Its a piece of cake.

Office job?

My daughter had the surgery three weeks ago. Its no cake walk for sure. She stayed with us to heal up. She just went back to work this last Saturday. Her job is very physical and it was very hard to return one week earlier than the doctor had recommended and she is still sore.

She had three incisions and two weeks away from work. But really she needed three weeks out of work and a much easier job.

Joe was happy that he took his leak after practice. He failed to toilet train Vontae's bladder last year.
Pouncey's girlfriend asked if that was a gun in his pants or if he was just happy to see her. I hope it wasn't a gun in his pants.

No I don't have an office job for sure. I do heating air conditioning and refrigeration so I'm always climbing ladders and lifting 100 pound compressors and such. Some days an office job doesn't sound too bad lol. I guess it affects everyone different I really didnt think it was bad. Of course I just had heart surgery so after that my gallbladder sure seemed like a cake walk.
