Viva la resistance!!!
Per Jeff Darlington's Twitter doctors have prescribed him meds in order to try to avoid him having his gall bladder removed. They're trying to get him on the field sooner rather than later.
Is this the right move? In 2013 I don't think gall bladder surgery is all that invasive. Wouldn't he just miss a game or 2?
Every case is different. I had mine out a couple of years back (seems to be a genetic thing in my family) and they put five punctures in me to do it. Took a couple weeks to heal but after that your body also needs time to adjust. The way it was explained to me is your gallbladder regulates the amount of bile in your system which is used to break down fats. Without the gall bladder, for some period of time (different from person to person but the average, I was told, is 6 months) any fats you eat will cause the body to dump bile into the system unregulated resulting in stomach issues that will have your running for the border quite often. In my case, I had to skip breakfast and lunch on workdays for about 8 months because if I ate the former I ran the danger of not being able to leave the house. And if I ate the latter, I'd spend half my workday in the bathroom. It wasn't pretty.
So while the wounds may heal, he might find himself not quite at full strength due to food consumption limitations he'd have to endure.
