Pre-season: Game 1 Evaluation

Why don't you guys making the "long year" comments just chill, lay back and relax. If you want, the pre-season can start now.

I'm content with this performance. The starters we put out there won't be our starters in week one anyway...No Seau, No Brown, no Schulters or Jones starting, Middleton will start....there will be a lot of changes but what we saw...especially with JT in linebacker coverage was nice in my opinion

Ok, now I'm sure of it... Feeley is a pu$$y!! Brock was nailing some tough passes and really surprised me!! But Ferotte is our starter.

Additional Notes after reviewing the stats:
Sammy Morris had the best day, 3.2 YPC

TE: Lorenzo Diamond had 4 catches for 50 yards, maybe a good backup Tight End. Alex Holmes was 3 for 20.

WR: Not many drops, just hard to say anybody stood out with no more than 3 catches the entire game, but good playing.

Most Tackles by a defensive lineman was 1: This is lousy.

Most tackles by any player was Y. Bell with 4... this is a great team stat, but also means there were too many players in and out to evaluate properly.

Note: Too many tackles for a safety, means he's tackling after his WR makes the catch... why was the WR open? This stat is non-helpful tonight, though.

Safeties seemed a little lost tonight.

Berlin looked better than he did at UM. He impressed me. He still threw the only int... and it was a game-winning opportunity.

People need to chill. There will be plenty of time for adjustments, and further evaluations. We got 4 more pre-season games to go! Let's be positive, and not jump off the ship already. Give Nick, the coaches, and players a chance!

Here's the assessment... This will be another long season  Saban will be a miracle worker if he can muster 7-8 wins.
First preseason game dude....if our o line is still struggling after the third or fourth PS game, then I'll agree with you...give the coaches a chance to see where they're at, regroup, reassess and make adjustments...that's their job, let them do it.

Feeley played well??
:rofl3:

I thought Feeley played well on the first drive. Then the blitzes came with the second drive, and he had no time for anything. Granted, he needs to work on his blitz recognition.

Edit: Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Manning and Vick both threw interceptions in their game, correct? Feeley didn't.

There's an understatement... Feeley has cement blocks for legs when an LB is ready to take his head off. They showed highlights of Steve Young juking to the left, juking to the right, missing sacks and getting TD's, then they go back to the game, and AJ looks like a deer in the headlights as he gets his clock cleaned!!

I know I can't compare him to Steve Young, but it accentuated the lack of talent.

You have to give the edge to ferotte in this game. Feeley seemed to lack pocket awareness that ferotte had. That was the biggest difference I saw. Feeley kept getting hit, Ferotte side-stepped most of it...

Steve was a mobile Qb Aj is not. Dan wasn't a very mobile Qb either (I'm in no way comparing the talent or greatness of Dan and AJ, so none of you better think about pouncing on me for that)

Madison had a bogus pass interference call. He's still outstanding. Think Troy Vincent after we traded him.

i'd have to totally disagree there... Troy Vincent is (was) a very a physical, tough corner who came up and stuck his nose in the run defense on a regular basis... Madison just doesn't...

Madison reads routes better... Not that Troy was bad...

Feeley had some really good throws. But there is one reason why I like Frerotte better... because he actually steps into the pocket and evades rushes. This was evident last year and part of this game. I liked how he broke that tackle to throw that ball to Chambers... Those who say it was underthrown: Chambers was infront of two DBs, if that WASNT underthrown, it would have been Intercepted.

I agree

One problem I have is that Feeley played pretty well, I just wish he would step up in the pocket when a blitz comes from the outside. He was pretty accurate tonight too and derrius dropped one right to him. Frerotte still outplayed him a little tonight though.

I saw him step up once, then immediately get ROCKED by Urlacher..

One more comment: the first string RB's did a terrible job picking up the blitz. Ronnie Brown, aside from being an outstanding runner, is supposed to be an above average blocker. We need him in there.
