Pre-Season trade idea

perhaps I was banking too much on them wanting to trade Ward because of the holdout. I was hoping that it would bring his value down in a trade for someone like Booker.

I know that Ward is worth Booker and a pick\player. Like I said, I was just hoping others see it the same way....because...

.......you know it was going to happen if we all agreed on it! :D

I found this thread amusing... It is obviously not an entirely serious thing. He is just talkin football...

It wouldnt happen just by how much the fans would disown the team... Ward is the face of the franchise. He is Mr. Steeler and everything will get worked out in the end. Ward will get paid. He deserves it and everyone knows it. He also isnt demanding outragous numbers like TO. And he didnt sign his contract last year, he is infact tryin to get an extension because his contract is running up.
And... you got to think... If they are only offering Ward an 8 million signing bonus, no WAY they wanna touch Ronnie's 20 million...

BUT... if you wanna talk hypothetically... If the Steelers were down for it, we would probably have to throw in Booker, Thompson and a draft pick (4th or 5th maybe?) It would be a crazy trade, and I would be down for it... Ward also dramaticlly helps your run game. So many times an annoying CB will just shoelace tackle a RB on a run play and end it right there. Ward completly takes the CB out of the play in terms of blocking. Its what Boston should be able to do...

it's kinda funny but ANY trade ideas we through around in this forum are for hte pleasure of the person submitting them. Simply because NONE of the stuff we come up will is like to ever happen. As much as I love playing GM\Ownership strong sports games I know that the NFL simply doesn't like to trade players where it's for team chemistry, fear of getting the worse end of a trade or just because the salary cap is so darn hard to circumnavigate.

It's all just for fun.

I hope all the previous posters read this.....

....THANK YOU for submitting a post that was constructive...even if I had to ask you to :) I do appreciate it and learn more about the thread subject when it's constructive and not just a bunch of one line, or even one word, responses.

Thank you all again.

just a thought but I'd like to get your impressions.....I'll discuss it below....

..Marty Booker for Hines Ward

now, reasoning....Hines Ward is arguably one of the top 5 WR in the league. He's holding out (and it may be a long one) because he was looking for a contract extension that paid him like he was a top 10 reciever (his contract expires after this season).

Marty Booker is a very good WR who's not currently in the top 10 WR in the league but has been to the probowl and led the NFC in rec. yrds one season. He's signed thru 2008 to a deal at 2.9 mill with no known bonus. This is a good deal (not great)

The reason Pitt does it: While Ward is beloved in the 'Burgh they obivously don't want to pay the guy like a top 10 WR. That's fine, it's their choice. But there is already some PR backlash against the Steeler's for not getting something done. Trading him for another good WR signed to a longterm deal solves 2 problems.

Why Pitt doesn't do it: The town loves the guy. If they don't sign him it looks very bad. Trading him doesn't get them totally out of the jam from a PR perspective but letting him sit out and then walk might look worse.

Why Miami does it: Well, first off, Ward is a better WR. Booker is good, Ward is better. 2nd, Ward is a year or or two younger as well (7 yrs). 3rd, Ward isn't asking for TO type money, it's a workable amount.

Why Miami doesn't do it: They don't want to spend top 10 money on another WR since Chambers already has that type of contract and spending a total of 7-8 mill on 2 wr doesn't make sense to them. Even if they can afford it's just too much money.

This was just an idea. I like Booker and don't really want to trade the guy but in addition to this being an upgrade at the WR spot, Booker has to be included for salary cap purposes. besides, I've always loved the way Ward plays and up until this contract issue he's always seemed to be a great guy that people liked. IF they wanted a guy like Thompson to make it work I'd also through him in.

Thoughts and comments?

p.s. On a crazier side....we do include the draft rights to Ronnie Brown (since the team simply doesn't want to pay him like a #2 overall pick) with Booker for Ward, Troy Polamalu and a draft pick next year. Troy certainly solves any current or future problem as the safety spot. (it also means we can cut Tillman immediately :)) Please don't slamm this part, I'm just throwing it on the end for fun...I do want to know what you think about the Booker for Ward straight up though.

Hines is a folk hero up there. They would riot in the streets if they traded him for anyone. Of course they may do that soon enough if they don't soon work something out.

Now on another preseason trade that could really help us, how bout AJ and our 2nd round pick for the Jets backup QB?? I think his name is Jay something....:rofl3:

LMAO.

Booker for a top 5 receiver!

Never happen. Booker isn't even the best WR on your team, and you're going to trade him for Ward? :rofl3:

i didnt read the entire post, but here is my first reaction from reading the first few lines:

M. Booker is old and past his prime. he HAS been to the probowl. but is NOT the same recierve he has been. he would get at best a 3rd rounder in a trade.

Ward is a top 5 WR. does everything very well. and could be called a "franchise WR". demanding atleast a 1st rounder in a trade. his "value" does not drop due to his hold out. he has been a solid leader for that team, and been to multiple probowls and has not asked for more money before now. and now he wants a contract extention. he deserves it. the team should pay him. hes not the distraction, or problem that TO is. a real stand up guy.

the fins have several WRs and need help elsewhere.

if you want to talk trade, send Brown to a team for a OT and a draft pick.

Just like Nasty, I'm also interested...who do you think would be available?

No thanks

The reasons why

1.Miami is already paying Chambers as a number one Wr.

2.Booker is a very very good Wr and his cap hit is even better.

3.Ronnie Brown is about to put Miami's cap nearly at max.

I like the Wr core here, and the price that comes with it.

Try imagining a trade for a great up and coming Qb and I'm all ears. :D

I have another pre season trade idea.....Aj Feely for Peyton Manning
