Prediction: Matt Moore will be traded after 2nd Preseason Game

The only way Moore or Garrard get traded at anytime before the regular season, is if the coaching staff is convinced Tannehill starts from day 1.

Once Tannehill takes the reigns of the offense, there is no going back to a veteran unless Tannehill gets hurt.

If you are saying Garrard will be the starter from day 1 because he is outplaying Moore, than Moore will not be traded.

From all accounts Matt Moore has been awful through the first week. Why would anyone want him?

2nd Preseason Game will be a showcase for Matt Moore. As it stands, Garrard is winning the QB competition and Tannehill is looking good. The coaches should have a read on who will be starter after game 1. If its Garrard, he will start preseason game 2, but the bulk of the game will showcase Moore. He will be traded to a team like San Diego who needs a solid backup.

Tannehill is showing enough that having both Moore and Garrard doesn't make sense. Additionally, it seems like Devlin is showing enough to warrant a roster spot.

I think Moore could net at least a 4th, and that would be well worth it.

I hope you are right! But are you kidding about Matt Moore bringing a 4th? I don't think there is trade value at all for Moore, maybe just waive him.

I don't think he starts... but I also don't think he's going anywhere. We have to have some sort of "insurance"...

We need the extra QB in Moore. God forbid Garrard's back is the new Pennington's shoulder.

I don't think he will be traded at all because:

1.) Gerarrd is outplaying Moore, however, Moore doesn't practice well. The competition is great for everyone.
2.) Based on what happened to Gararrd in 2010...Moore is a great insurance policy.
3.) Moore is a good Backup.
4.) Moore wouldn't demand much on the open market, unless a season ending injury happens to a starting QB somewhere else. Even then, it's not like he could walk on and start. He would have to learn the playbook and learn all the "term" languauge differences.
5.) If that was their intent all along, trainning camp would have looked much different.
6.) If Garrard goes down. and more comes in, the day is saved. If Gararrd does down and Tanny comes in, the season is over. He's just not ready yet. Maybe that will change, but as of now, he's not ready yet.

This team isn't a 4th round pick away from a superbowl.
This team is however, a season ending injury to Gerrard away from not making the playoffs if Moore is not there.

Nice analysis . . ..

I think its going to be after ps game 3... When the Jets have no choice but to realize they dont have a QB on their roster...

Well, I gotta chime in.

1. San Diego is already looking for a backup. Its true.
2. Moore would be an excellent fit for him there. He has the best deep ball of anyone.
3. Garrard is Philbin's guy. Tannehill is the future. But what about Devlin? He is someone I will hang around in 4th qtr to see.
4. If he looks good in games and practice it makes the Moore decision much easier to make. Devlin could be our future too.
5. Moore is getting as many reps in preseason as Garrard so he is getting showcased regardless.
6. What would be useful for Moore to be sticking around if Garrard is the man with the future waiting for the crowd to start calling for the rookie? Moore is like a #3 in this scenario. Only way Moore stays by week 17 IMO is if he is the starter vs. houston. Not likely IMO. He fumbles too much. Philbin has seen it live and on tape.
A lot of good points. The only one that I question that several others have brought up is #5 - Moore getting reps because he is being "showcased". Even with the quicker pace of practice I can't believe that Philbin and company are willing to give that many reps to showcase someone when they have so much evaluation to do and a new offense to install and teach.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

Acquiring david garrbage was on of ireland's biggest mistakes EVER, and THAT is saying something.

Rather than having a neatly set QB rotation and having the luxury of a TC structured around it... rather than giving Moore a year which he EARNED off his play last year, while grooming Ryan for the future... they reach for a 35-year old never-was with a bad back, throwing the entire QB situation into a state of flux and confusion maybe for the next 2-3 YEARS.

Somehow Matt Flynn "wasn't a material improvement over Matt Moore", but garrbage IS?

Somehow signing Alex Smith "didn't represent a significant upgrade enough over Matt Moore", but garrbage DOES?

It's as if there was really NO question about Moore's ability to play and START this year when other QB's were actually available to us, so let them sign elsewhere, but then out of NOWHERE comes a guy who the WHOLE ENTIRE LEAGUE passed on... WROTE OFF... and suddenly he is THE ANSWER. Time to cast Moore on the trash heap.

Yeah right.

Go back to the VERY FIRST pages on this forum, like 4,000 pages ago back in 2001, like I did today and see where FinHeaven posters on there then were bringing up the idea of getting garrbage when he was actually young and healthy, to replace JAY FIEDLER, and how this board was LAUGHING THEM TO SCORN AND RIPPING THEM TO SHREDS for their sheer lunacy. Eleven years and a SEVERE back injury ago.

Not even satan or Cam Cameron was dumb enough to go after him. soprano (figures) considered it but he was so dumb garrbage himself refused to come here which was a good thing in retrospect.

I am hoping garrbage is cut after Preseason game 2. Maybe THEN we can get down to business.

And IF I actually thought garrbage was Philbin's guy, I would think hiring PHILBIN was a mistake. Period.
