PS players signed according to Herald

We should add two qbs to the practice squad and let them battle it out to see who stays on it. i hate that we are limited to one and only one.

i could not agree more a decent punter is a dime a dozen and its not like he has a special training habit that the dolphins want him to do. o wait he does have to learn the dolphins punting system. lets see how long will it take him to learn PUNT THE BALL
 
he will be there till they are sure that turk is healthy...or this is a money matter .. turk is well paid for a punter.

Simply put, he is insurance against Turks age and injury situation...
 
You guys are missing the point that alopez34 is trying to make. You keep a guy on your practice squad so that he continues to practice with the team and be up to speed on the system and chemistry and whatnot. I question the value of putting a backup punter on the practice squad too. Is our punting 'system' really all that complicated that we need the dude to be in game shape just in case Turk ever goes down with an injury?

Basically here's what I'm saying. He cleared waivers to get to the practice squad meaning nobody put in a claim on him. If he sits out there as a free agent, he's GOING to keep himself in kicking shape because he knows that at any time some team could come calling when one of their punters goes down with injury and he will need to be able to kick immediately. So he sits out there as a free agent and yes some team could steal him from us.

BUT, some team could do the same thing and steal him from our practice squad. All they have to do is make the offer and Donnie accept it.

So basically the only value whatsoever to having him on the practice squad is getting him to make a "gentelman's agreement" that if some other team comes calling ready to put him on the active roster he will give us first dibs on matching the offer and bringing him to the active roster so we don't lose him. But, if the Dolphins really thought that another team making an offer to Jones was likely (and therefore we need to make him a practice squad player just to get Donnie to agree to give us first dibs), that would mean they have to be willing to cut Matt Turk and replace him with Donnie Jones at any time, because we're never rostering TWO punters (we'd be a laughing stock). So, if they're willing to let Turk go so easily, and find it likely to happen this season, why not just let him go now and sign Jones as our punter. Nobody would be surprised, I mean they sent a pretty clear message with Ed Perry that all things being equal you go with the younger (cheaper) guy.

I don't get the move, that's what I'm saying. I've worked it through in my head and I still don't get the move. Hey, maybe they feel that working with the kicking coach on the practice squad will help him develop as a punter and make him a really good punter in the NFL. I tend to think that's a bit overrated, especially since Doug Blevins isn't with us anymore.
 
I agree with you about Turk and Jones. Also, with Turk being a vested veteran, after him being on the week 1 roster, we have to guarantee his salary for the season. So if we ever plan on making Jones the punter it should have been now, not after week 1 is in the books.
I guess Saban's comments about always going with the younger guy when things are equal pertained to long snappers but not punters.
The only possible thing I can think of is that we are not comfortable with Jones as the holder, yet. I don't recall if he was the holder at LSU and Mare has a comfort level with Turk and in the past posted good results the first time Turk was with us and holding for him. That seems a little far fetched maybe, but I'm just trying to come up with reasons why Jones is going on the PS. One other thing is maybe to keep a fire lit under Turk, knowing that a young punter is always right there looking over his shoulder.

I disagree. I actually wish he had made the roster over turk. We need to keep him around because he will likely be our punter next season. Great net compared to MAtt in the preseason. Now lets just teach him how to hold for FG's.

I actually do think they want to work with him to groom him for next year. The knock on him is that he's inconsistent so they probably want to see his progress. He will also be learning to takeover as the holder, which does involve some technique and will need repitition.
 
I think he'll be around until Turk's groin is 100%, if not they can activate him late week and have him here.
 
I just checked the Bucs website, and Bua isn't one of the 8 guys on their PS. Kind of strange, but i guess they didn't want him at the last min.
 
I believe Matt Mauck will be added to the practice squad, and when he learns the offense, he will be added, and possibly Feeley get's cut.

This might be a HUGE stretch, however maybe just maybe they want him to practice holding and get a little report with Mare.
