QB controversy deja vu

LISTEN, AJ FEELEY HAS TALENT. HE NEEDS TO BE GIVEN A CHANCE. I HOPE FREROTTE IS IN TO JUST PUT PRESSURE ON FEELEY AND TEACH HIM THE SYSTEM. BATES GAVE FEELEY A CHANCE AT THE END OF THE SEASON AND HE DID A PRETTY DECENT JOB WITH A TERRIBLE O-LINE AND RUNNING BACKS. HE HAS A VERY GOOD ARM. WE GAVE UP A 2ND ROUND DRAFT PICK FOR HIM AND HE HAS LESS THAN A YEAR OF STARTS. GIVE THE KID A LINE AND WRS AND THEIR WON'T BE ANY CONTROVERSY. I'M NOT HIS BIGGEST FAN YET, BUT LET'S BE REAL. PEYTON MANNING WOULD HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE WITH THE LINE WE HAD LAST YEAR. NO ONE CAN PUT HIM IN THE GROUND YET. FEELEY PLAYS WITH ALOT OF EMOTION AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HIM THIS SEASON. I THINK SABAN IS A GREAT COACH, BUT I'M REALLY GOING TO WONDER ABOUT HIM IF HE LET'S LINEHAN INFLUENCE HIM TO START FREROTTE. FREROTTE IS OLD, IMMOBLE AND INJURY PRONE. HE IS ALSO A LIFETIME BACKUP. FEELEY COULD HAVE A FUTURE WITH THIS ORGANIZATION. I'M NOT ON THE SIDELINES OR IN TRAINING CAMP, BUT FEELEY HAS GOT TO HAVE THE UPPER HAND. IF FREROTTE IS GOING TO START THEN BRING BACK MARINO!!!!!:goof: :goof:

STOP WITH THE CAPS!!!

we gave a third for gordon who will be at best the #3 RB....what spielman gave up for anybody is irrelevant

Frerotte is immobile and injury prone? AJ is no more mobile than him...

Since when has he gotten severely hurt since 99? Has he done anything like that since? NOPE!

DUDEMAN, I LIKE CAPS! I WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPS!!

IT IS NOT IRREVELANT IF THEY ARE STILL ON THE TEAM AND BEING PAID!! SPIELMAN WAS TERRIBLE I AGREE, BUT I'M SAYING WE GAVE UP ALOT FOR FEELEY. GIVE HIM A CHANCE. LAST YEAR WAS NOT A CHANCE. FREROTTE IS TOO OLD TO COME IN AND BE A STARTER FOR A REBUILDING TEAM WHEN HE ONLY HAS A YEAR OR SO IN HIM AT BEST. FEELEY HAS A LITTLE EXPERIENCE. NOW HE HAS THE TALENT AROUND HIM. IT IS TIME FOR HIM TO PERFORM OR HIT THE ROAD AND DRAFT NEXT YEAR. FREROTTE IS NO FIX AT ALL. HE HAD ONE GOOD GAME TWO SEASONS AGO.
I SAY WE KEEP FREROTTE AS A BACKUP THIS YEAR AND MOLD BERLIN TO SEE IF HE IS GOING TO BE ANY GOOD. SABAN TRIED TO RECRUIT BERLIN IN HIGH SCHOOL AND AT FLORIDA. SABAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY HIGH ON BERLIN. I HAVE NOT. WE WILL SEE. I SAY WE DROP SAGE ROSENFELS NOW HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!

and this is why you aren't the coach.....Rosenfels terrible? he may turn out to be better than golden boy. This has got to end. There are WAY too many people on this board that think that AJ should just be handed the job. Its assinine, thats not how football works in the Saban era.

btw, a "rebuilding" team does not go out and sign Vonnie Holliday, Kevin Carter, Spragan et al. The Titans are a rebuilding team, we are not. These guys were signed to help win NOW!

FEELEY WILL BE THE MAN. DID YOU HEAR LINEHAN'S PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER THEIR LAST PRACTICE. HE SAID HE WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH FEELEY AND HE HAS UNBELIEVABLE TALENT. HE SAID IT. WE SIGNED THE DEFENSIVE PLAYERS HOLLIDAY AND CARTER BECAUSE WE ARE DESPERATE FOR VETERAN DEFENSIVE LINEMEN. I DON'T AGREE WITH THE KEVIN CARTER CONTRACT. I'M NOT REPLYING TO YOUR MESSAGES TO ARGUE JUST VOICE MY OPINION.
IF ROSENFELS WAS BETTER THAN THE GOLDEN BOY HE WOULD BE 2ND STRING OR STARTER. I DIDN'T SAY FEELEY SHOULD BE HANDED THE JOB. I SAID GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF. ANY VETERAN SIGNED IS SIGNED TO HELP WIN NOW. EVERYONE YOU NAMED IS ON DEFENSE. OUR DEFENSE HAS BEEN A WIN NOW DEFENSE FOR 5 OR 6 YEARS. WE ARE BOTH DOLPHINS FANS! LET'S GET ALONG! I JUST THINK THAT FEELEY SHOULD BE THE STARTER!!

The trick is placing them in a situation where it is easy for both of them to succeed. Having the right offense, right receivers, right OL, and right RB can help that immensely. Houck and a little stability can probably improve the OL play. As much as I know the line needs significant improvement, I like that we will have stability among the interior linemen from last season to this season. Those interior guys need that I think. The WR corp has talent, from Chambers to Booker to Boston, and even Derrius Thompson is capable. The RB corp will be fantastic, so much different from the paltry group we fielded last year that made people around here fall in love with Sammy Morris just because he could consistently gain 3 yards. The offense will be a heck of a lot more vertical...not sure if that is better or what, but there are SOME pieces in place to get this thing turned around and have it not matter who is slinging the ball so much.

Overall I believe the strategy for 2005 is to have a "surprisingly mediocre" offense, and a "surprisingly good" defense. And, the strategy is to have the phins finish at a "surprising" 8-8. Kind of like the Bengals this year, except they had a "surprisingly good" offense and a "surprisingly mediocre" defense.

The writing is on the wall. The future quarterback of the Miami Dolphins is not on the roster.

I believe the future Qb of the Phins is not on the roster. I'm not gonna say AJ can't prove to be a decent Qb, but I think he's gonna have to be better than decent for the team to win. I was wondering if the team has a good season, and Aj wins the starting Qb job but does not play well, but very average what would be the thinking of Saban? Give the guy another year, or bring someone else in. While I think the Qb competition is necessary, I don't think it's good for a team. The sooner the starting Qb is named the better. I would hope by the end of the 2nd preseason game the starting Qb is named, and that Ronnie Brown is signed. Buffalo named Losman the starting Qb as soon as Bledsoe was gone, and I think that was a good move for them, and if Saban had as much confidence in Aj as the Bills have in Losman he would've been named the starting Qb as soon as he was hired. The Qb situation is not a good one IMO, kinda like "if you've got two guys trying to be the starting Qb, ya really don't have a starting Qb on the team."

If only you knew how many people totally ignore everything you write simply because of your choice to use CAPS.

:rolleyes2

I just don't understand posts like this. No player at ANY position should be handed a job. This isn't a controversy. This is an open competition between two QBs. One will be the starter, the other the back up. There is no controversy about it. The better QB will and should get the job. That's the way it's supposed to be.

I see why you didn't understand my post. I never stated that we should hand AJ the job. I was simply expressing my frustration with having to go through similar circumstances as last year again. Its not fun having hand me down QBs compete every year for our most important position.

As I said earlier, I would prefer a starter to get named early and not have this thing draw out and become something similar to what Steve Spurrier did during his stint at Washington.

why not? he did in Minnesota in this same offense with fewer weapons. but your golden boy will? please......

you apparently are so gung ho AJ that you dont want anybody but him to be the starter, and if somebody else does win....its something negative like "I dont believe that Gus is capable"

Nice of you to join, Braylon.

:sosad:

And the worst part for you, is that you're not going to change my opinion.

I have 12 years of football to look at, that says Gus aint good enough...I don't think he's good enough, you're just going to have to deal with that.

Having Gus start this year means that our QB search is not over. having AJ start this year might mean that we have our QB of the future, so yes, I would much rather see AJ start.

My golden boy??? :shakeno:

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure I know what Feeley has.

Did you come to this conclusion based on last years performance? If you did then then you must believe that AJ had all he needed to win games "he" just came up short in his ability. Well I don't know how you came up with your opinion of him but, nothing on this team is the same as last year as far as player attitudes and coaching. I would think people around here would hold their opinions at least till Saban and crew had a chance to work with the players here. There is a long history of QB's doing nothing till they fit into a system that suits them. R.Ganon, K.Warner, T.Dilfer,D.Williams, T.Green just to name a few. They didn't exactly light up the NFL till they found a system that worked for them. I'll wait and see what happens this year before I write AJ off.

Nobody should be handed the Job, they must all fight for it and let the best man win!

I don't see a controversy!

Feeley has more upside than Frerotte. It’s as simple as that.

Does that mean I am a diehard Feeley supporter?... NO

Does that mean I think Frerotte cannot be a decent QB?....NO

Does that mean I don’t think Sage can become the starter? NO

This has nothing to do with what we traded for Feeley.

It’s just an opinion based on the history of all the QB’s

Do I think the starter should earn the position in TC and the pre-season? Absolutely!

Deep down, do I think there is a chance that our QB of the future

Is not on the present day roster?... more than likely

I think Gus is a capable Qb and in Linehan's system he seems to be explosive. I wouldnt mind him winning the spot at all.

I want AJ to be the starter in Miami only if he is the best man for the job. He will have plenty of time and opportunity to show he is the better man. Lack of knowledge in the system won't stop him from winning the job if he makes a steady progression during TC.

The coaches are smart enough to see if he has the ability to do the job.

This won't be another debacle like last year when everyone knew the so called open competition was a farce. (atleast I hope not) JMO!

I don't see a controversy!

Maybe a good question is how long should this competition last. Were you ok with our team not naming a starter and preferring to give each QB's status as situational?

Oh and don't be confused because there is a controversy until a conclusion is met as far as who is 1st and 2nd string. Just reading through these messages in this thread, we can see some who would like AJ to start and others who would like to see Gus at the helm. That is a controversy or dispute...whatever you want to label it or not.
I'm sure the same arena of questions are being tossed around by the coaches who will be evaluating both QBs.

I'm sure Scott Linehan is somewhat doubtful that AJ can come in and beat out "his boy" who already knows how to make his system look good....While other coaches may feel the future is with AJ.
