QB controversy deja vu

I'm not real sold on AJ, but if he wins the job, he wins it. I'm willing to wait and see what happens in camp and preseason, I'm sure Saban and Linehan know what they are doing.

May the best man win, competition is a good thing. We don't have wishy washy Wanny running the team anymore.

The bottom line: If Feeley can't decisively beat out a mediocre backup qb ( I consider Fiedler a legitimate backup) in two successive years under two drastically different coaching staffs, then the AJ experiment is over and it's time to move on. You don't play your 2nd (or 3rd) best qb just because you want him to be good. You can't make him succeed by force of will.

He either deserves to start (I hope) or he doesn't. He gets a fair shot and the chips fall where they may.

When you have 2 QB's, you have none

SF 49ers, Joe Montana & Steve Young.....1987 - 1992

BOTH are HOF QBs.

I'm not suggesting that either Feeley or Frerotte are HOF bound (obviously), but the mere fact that a player is 2nd string doesn't automatically make him a bad player.

Difference is everyone knew Young was a great talent and was waiting his turn behind a legend. Frerotte ain't holding anybody with superior talent on the bench!

dominizzo use to type in caps, or alternating caps and lowercase, and one of the mods (who, being a prospective pro footballer doesnt post anymore) told him to quit it out because it was annoying....D hasn't done it since

Yes, I think it's thought of as yelling, but it is annoying. It's not the worst thing you could doing though, some people type as though they're from star wars or Mr. T.

The point is that when neither QB is able to distinguish himself as the starter, then neither one is very good. This is what happens when you have 2 backup quality QB's as your top 2. QB carousels seldom work. That's why I'm hoping that Feeley emerges as a promising starter. The Montana/ Young analogy doesn't apply here because Montana was an established franchise QB, long before Young entered the picture.

Its no offense against you. But your naivete to the usage of caps lends me to believe you have recently began to use forums.
Most people see all caps as yelling...others just ignore them because it hurts the eyes to read all caps...similar to if I typed my posts in RED TEXT all the time.

Put your glasses on if you can't see the letters...then type like normal people....(LOLOLOLOLOL...just kidding, just trying to get a chuckle....)

BAck to the thread...I am an AJ supporter, but feel that he must win the job...he was not one of Wanny's guys and never got a chance to be successful last year. Once we were rid of Wanny, he at least improved, but still didn't have a decent opportunity with a half season. At any rate, my concern is with Ferrotte...He is a career backup and has proven to be unreliable in a starting role. He has done well recently coming in off the bench is a support role for a few games, but tends to tank it when that lasts beyond a game or two. He is the kind of QB that you don't mind having as your backup because he has the experience to get you out of jams on occasion...So, I certainly hopes AJ takes the bull by the horns, but that'll just have to wait and see.

see, thats where I think a lot of you guys are losing sight on him. What he did in Cincinnati, Denver, Washington means absolutely nothing. It would be like looking at what Garcia did in Cleveland last year, even though he's back in a comfortable offense now (which, btw, I think he'll easily overtake Harrington by midseason) He has done well in Linehan's offense, and right now for the next few years, thats what matters. He's got the arm, the smarts, and the extensive knowledge of this offense to be successful.

He signed a 2 year deal, so we have him till 2007 in whatever capacity.

Do I think he'll be Rich Gannon? Unlikely, but he has so many more weapons here than just Moss.

I honestly believe that once the pads are on, that he is really going to seperate himself from all of the other QBs. Just being able to go out there, and rattle off all the plays from memory with no effort whatsoever is what will really help him.
