but those stats were certainly good enough for you to say that he has shown a "feel" for the game

No, watching him play every one of those games, over and over again was good enough for me to say he showed some good things including feel for the game.Dudeman said:but those stats were certainly good enough for you to say that he has shown a "feel" for the game![]()
Feeley has a marked tendency to throw line drives. He doesn't seem to be able to take some heat off the ball. If he wins the job and he shows improvement everywhere except this obvious flaw in his game, I think the people running this team are smart enough to draft another QB next year.Awsi Dooger said:A.J. Feeley has never displayed touch or feel or managed good stats in the most relevant categories. Again, it's not like he materialized out of a genie's bottle last season. Anyone (other than Rick Spielman) who watched Feeley at Philly and Oregon noticed a remarkable tendency to bird dog and throw line drives, even when a completely different type of pass was called for. I posted that on several sites the day we traded for him. Absolutely nothing changed in a Dolphin uniform.
The posters who are rooting for Feeley based on long term aspects and sacrificing a #2 for him are embracing a strategy that is generally correct, but in this particular case is 100% mistaken. Feeley has basic limitations that severely regulate his upside and lead to a disgraceful number like 5.32 yards per attempt last season. The last thing we want is a tease season, one with a marked improvement in yards per attempt and interception percentage but still not top notch. That would delay seeking the QB of the future. The best scenario by far is Frerotte to win the job and deliver a workmanlike season or two, allowing us to grow as a team while attracting top free agents who understand we're very close. In the meantime you pursue and begin to groom a young QB, someone who has the basic goods and not a severely flawed QB like Rick Spielman predictably preferred.

Try reading the thread before you "correct" somebody.SCall13 said:Feeley isn't a 2nd year player. He'll be coming into his 5th.He should have plenty of "feel" for the game by now. If he doesn't have it yet, chances are, he isn't going to get it.

1. We seem to all agree that OL play was terrible, heck even the OL agrees on that.
2. We all agree that we had no running game...and the stats, that I hate, bares that out..we were 31st..
3. We all agree that the QB's had less than 2 seconds once they planted their foot to throw...that's bared out by the fact that both starting QB's were knocked out for parts of the season with injuries. Our 3rd QB started the last game of the year it was so bad.
Now, my question, if it was that bad and we agree, what did you guys who bash AJ, and say no excuses for him and all that...really expect him to do behind that OL...Better question, what do you guys think P. Manning would have done? Can you guys answer both those questions for me? Thanks in advance...Remember, keep this to what those QBs could do behind last years OL, I already know what you think of AJ, so I'm not interested in that kind of answer...Bonus question, would P. Manning have thrown 49 TD's behind last year's Miami OL?

"He's certainly got some exceptional talent as far as throwing the ball," Linehan said.

People pick and choose what they want to hear. Everyone around here raves about how good Linehan is. Well, he thinks Feeley's throwing talents are "exceptional," but people choose to ignore that and continue to dump on Feeley. The guy deserves a shot with a better system and better surrounding talent.

But it doesn't change my opinion about his lack of feel for the game. He can't read a defense and he only knows how to throw bullets. That's why he was picked off by LBs alot and a defensive lineman. He has no touch on his passes and he locks on to his recievers. That is just a few of his flaws. He certainly has a lot of them. He has alot to learn and overcome to be the starter for this team.
Had we given a 5th, or even 4th round pick for him, with the intentions of trying to groom him, it would have been one thing. But to give up a 2nd with the intention of him starting is crazy. He wasn't and he still isn't ready to start in the NFL. Did last year's team hurt his development. Sure it did. But how good was/is he going to be anyway? He isn't getting any younger. SO do we waste 3 more years on a QB that has shown so little - only to have to change QBs again when the team may be at it's peak at all other positions. Pretty scary proposition if you ask me. AJ has MUCH to prove THIS year or he is a goner. I'm sure we all agree on that. RIGHT?
