Ray-Ray Armstrong a possibility?

When was the last time that a decent player actually emerged from the Supplementary Draft? Reshad Jones and Jimmy Wilson can cover the safety spots.

Jared Gaither hasn't been all that bad in the NFL since being drafted in 2007, Ahmad Brooks has worked out and he was picked in 2006. Jamal Williams and Mike Wahle from 1998 worked out. It is possible to find gems in the Supplemental draft, it is just harder to do since on average there is usually only one player picked a year. The biggest names ever to come out of the Supplemental Draft includes Bernie Kosar and Cris Carter.

As of late, I'm not sure I would take risks on many players from the U.

He looked like one of the most improved young players on defense for Miami because he took to Coach Golden's coaching. His tackling fundamentals were dramatically improved last year as he broke down better, started tackling lower, attacked the proper leg of the ball carrier when presented with an angle, and didn't whiff as many tackles due to trying to tackle high looking for a big hit.

He's trending in the right direction on the field in my opinion, although he still tends to get himself out of position which leads to some busts defensively.

Obviously probably doesn't make the best decisions off the field.... sense of entitlement might be his biggest issue right now that leads to his poor decision making.

Any team looking for safety help should probably attempt to find out exactly where his head is at through due diligence, and get a feel for how important football is to him if he enters the supplemental draft. If he's willing to work and keep soaking up quality coaching like he's been doing, you might have something that's worth more than you gave up in the supplemental draft.

If you come away feeling like he's dedicated to football and improving his football IQ, a 4th round pick isn't too steep a price for Ray Ray Armstrong. There are a few safeties in the 2013 class that I like better, but they're all underclassman who may or may not declare, and will all be gone in the first 50-75 picks anyway.

Spending a 4th rounder on him in the supplemental draft wouldn't prevent me from addressing the position early in the 2013 draft if I feel like I can get one of the safeties I regard a little higher anyway.

Tons of talent. Questionable judgment at best. Kid has a lot of growing up to do. Serious instincts, though. Not sure I'd take a risk with him.

I think the better risk is with Seantrel Henderson. Ridiculous size. Piss poor coaching while at Miami. Suffered thru the Shannon era and then had to deal with Art Kehoe last season. Art Kehoe is a guy that got a job based on what he did many many moons ago with the Hurricanes of the 1980's. He's a great recruiter. Terrible line coach. Seantrel is a kid that is just bigger and badder than everyone else but he's raw. Some real coaching at the next level could benefit team and player.

I share your opinion. Seantrel Henderson the better risk, IMO. That's based on watching them a lot and getting a feeling that Vaughn Telemaque is actually a better safety than Armstrong right now because of lack of discipline on Armstrong's part, and that Seantrel is a legitimately good NFL prospect that does well against other legitimately good NFL prospects.

I was actually going to mention Vaughn Telemaque in my previous post but didn't think it was really necessary. But you're right. Telemaque is the better talent and the better player. He's a great kid with a good head on his shoulders and comes from a wonderful family. They travel to many of Vaughn's away games and they're always tailgating with my group. Same goes for Vernon. Great parents that kid has. I don't know much about the Armstrong family but I do know that this isn't the first incident where Ray Ray's judgment and maturity has been questioned.

If he has been suspended by the Uni, wouldnt that mean that he would be investiged by the NCAA? And possibly suspended by the NCAA? If thats the case, and a big if, can the NFL enforce the NCAA suspensions?

That being the case, no, I wouldnt use a pick on him. I would prefer to trade two 3rds for a mid to high 2nd.

University is already being investigated by the NCAA. And I pretty sure that the stuff that he was tweeting about was referring to prior encounters with boosters and nothing recent. I don't think that the NCAA can suspend him. I believe that they can only "rule" him ineligible.

The word I'm hearing is that he's suspended indefinitely by the team. Possibly off the team once Big Al returns from vacation later this week. I'm guessing that Al and staff are sick of this kid's nonsense and will boot him from the team. Same goes for Seantrel. Not only has Seantrel been a disappointment on the field more often than not, Seantrel's Dad is also a bit of a drama queen as well.

The last I heard on the matter, Seantrel seemed likely to get the permanent boot and Ray Ray seemed likely to get about a 6 game suspension. Don't know how reliable that is.

Regardless of the talent we've got at tackle (Jake Long, Jonathan Martin, Lydon Murtha) there is a certain point I would take a gamble on Seantrel Henderson. The guy clearly has the talent to play in the league. The way these Supplemental Drafts work you could easily find that you get all the way into the 6th or 7th round and nobody has submitted a pick for Seantrel yet. At that point, regardless of what tackles we already have, that's like found money.

And to the points you raised earlier about Vaughn Telemaque, he's a safety that I've been talking about as a possibility for Miami for a little while now. I heard some chatter about him losing his starting job, which is hard to believe because he just seems like such a solid guy, but I take it with this Ray Ray Armstrong nonsense going on that idea is out the window.

Seantrel's size is what makes him so appealing to me. He's a mountain of a man. To see him up close and personal is jaw dropping. You never see a KID like him in everyday life who is that size. I think he's really been the victim of Shannon and poor coaching.

It doesn't matter how good a Freshman is, Shannon doesn't respect him and doesn't want to play him. Art Kehoe couldn't block the doorway to a 5th grade classroom these days. That dude is all hype. He's in your face. He's highly motivational...but he can't teach you how to be a better football player. These kids that come to Miami are already so talented at a very young age and no one teaches them how to use that talent to be a football player.

Seantrel would be an entirely different player with some good coaching at the next level. I really think he's done here in Miami. Ray Ray could get another chance. We're very thin in the secondary as is. Tracy Howard will blow all of these dudes away.

Deon Bush hopefully can step in at safety and Howard should be a star at CB.

This whole Ray Ray thing is disappointing to me. He was becoming a leader in spring and I was expecting big things from him. So was coach Golden.

Even in the Al Golden era I sense some of the same problems of under-used/under-coached talent that marked the Randy Shannon era.

Well, giving Art Kehoe his job back didn't really sit to well with me.

Most of the other hires I've liked. Jedd Fisch, despite being a ****head Gator, has done a pretty good job with the offense.

This year should say a lot. This team is bad. I think that if he can somehow win 8 games, they should rename the coach of the year trophy after him.
