Reality Check on Jordan

Maybe you guys are right. Maybe his punishment should be playing with the scrums. A sure way to get injured and miss even more time.

Disregard my comments. i'm just pissed at our #3 pick for bringing this on himself.

As well you should, and I feel the same. Jordan does need the playing time in preseason but now, so does Fede, and maybe Odrick some to get ready for opening day, as opposed to game #5.

A few things here. One, the team will "survive", but it does not change the fact the team was expecting an impact from a kid that essentially red shirted last year. I agree they can win with out him, but he was an X factor in maybe getting them to another level.

Secondly, I was there in person watching how easily Jordan ran with Gronk. It was no joke how easy it looked. No, he did not defend him all game, but it shouted loud what he could do with more experience and creativity from the coaching staff.

I agree. I think that is part of the reason he will be an amazing player for us in a couple of years, while still being helpful this year.

this jordan can be exceptional in coverage is based on what, 3 plays? laughable. until he can do it for weeks or game after game its just wishful thinking. he was awful rushing the passer and now hes suspended because he was trying to cheat....how this guy can be considered anything but an absolutely awful pick so far is beyond me. rookie pass rushers selected in the top 10 who do zilch their first year usually dont turn into anything(that being in the past decade or so..dont point to bruce smith). hes got 12 games and he'll probably be slowly worked in when he comes off suspension...so its basically 8 or 9 games to make an impact.

I am still waiting for somebody to provide a believable explanation of whose playing time DJ will be taking this season. Wake, Vernon and Shelby aren't going to be volunteering to give those snaps away. Doesn't he have to find some way to actually get on the field before he can be the franchise savior that all of you seem to think he is?

Good thing he was 100% physically with no injuries, gave us a true look at what he can/can't do.

Another good thing he didn't re-injure it in the Cleveland game (game 1).

I think your overall summary is too negative but I completely agree with this aspect. If we rely on Jordan's pass coverage skills we might as well pack up and forfeit. Not only is it a handful of plays but the opposition has to salivate at the prospect of taking advantage. The Patriots successfully pick agile cornerbacks and safeties who have been in coverage all their lives. Imagine setting up a design to pick a 6-6 guy with tunnel vision.

When it blows up, it will be a spectacular failure. Let's put it that way. It might be valuable tonic.

Jordan isn't a run stopper or a pass coverer. He's a rush guy with some disruptive traits who arguably fits best outside in a 3-4.

I'm intrigued by him but like so many of our players I have no idea how he ended up as a premium draft pick instead of a 2nd or 3rd round gamble. If we continue to take running backs who redshirted in college at #2 (Ronnie Brown), quarterbacks who never started a college season opener until beyond their 23rd birthday at #8 (Ryan Tannehill), or skinny part time defenders who flunk the metrics at #3 (Dion Jordan), I don't see how anyone can be surprised at ongoing mediocrity. When so much of this is a crap shoot you want to start at the 60% level and not 40%. These guys are often going to deviate 20% or more from logical expectation. Do the wrong thing consistently and there's too much burden for the player to err on the high side. Unfortunately the front office doesn't understand any of that. They see a stadium and are determined to patch it, and see an offensive line with determination to patch it.

We will survive. None of us are really mad that the kid is a moron. We are mad that we wasted the pick on a 3-4 backer when we play 4-3. If we could get a 1 and more I take it in a heartbeat.

Last year, Jordan played 339 snaps, 206 on the pass rush wit 2 sacks (with 1 not counting on penalty), 4 hits, and 18 hurries. He was in coverage 46 times, and in spite of what a few have posted on how good he was vs Gronk and Graham, it is not true. He was in cover only twice in the first Pats game, and one time vs Gronl for an incompletion. Gronk did not play in game #2. Graham was 4 for 4 for 100 yards, and Jordan was not in cover on ant snaps.

Jordan had one VG game vs Atlanta, one sack that counted, and one good cover on Gronk. They were his highlights. We were a win out the playoffs, and he had nothing to do with it

We all expect much more this year but, losing him for 4 games is far from huge effect on the team. We will survive.

*sorry for the title typo.

Apples and Oranges -> last year and this seasons ->

It is too bad Jordan went the shortcut but soemthing had to be done -> i had the rotator cuff surgery and I don't face 300 lb lineman, II lost my arms and shpouo;lders for a year, I can understand why he did it -> he wants to be a player who stands out in the game

but sure glad we didn't trade Wake this year

Think Chip Kelly is still interested?

Jordan was in coverage on Graham on atleast one occasion and this link proves it.

While the prowess of Jordan as a cover linebacker may be a little over blown by some, Dion does have experience in pass coverage from his days at Oregon and used that experience in the few opportunities he had. I know people keep talking about Jordan running with Gronk and Graham but I think it was the game against San Diego and Antonio Gates that showed what Dion can do against some top flight tight ends.

Rookies In Focus: Dion Jordan

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/04/01/rookies-in-focus-dion-jordan/

Round 1, No. 3: Dion Jordan, Miami Dolphins

Role
Total Snaps: 339
Defensive Right End: 236 (69.6%)
Defensive Left End: 22 (6.5%)
Linebacker: 79 (23.3%)
Defensive Tackle: 2 (0.6%)

Heading into the draft, most analysts had Jordan pegged as a 3-4 outside linebacker, or even a Von Miller-like role in a 4-3 where he could play SAM linebacker in base packages while coming off the edge to rush the passer in sub packages. When the Dolphins moved up to take him at No. 3 overall, the speculation began as to Jordan’s best fit. Would he become a movable chess piece to offset New England’s matchup nightmares at tight end? Would he become the edge rushing presence the Dolphins have lacked opposite DE Cameron Wake?

The Dolphins initial plan was to use Jordan mostly as a pass rushing defensive end to complement Wake on passing downs, but his inconsistency combined with the emergence of DE Olivier Vernon limited Jordan’s opportunities. He dabbled in a stand-up linebacker role on passing downs, often showing the athleticism that had scouts drooling prior to the draft.

He didn't lose his arms and shoulders for a year. His arm was immobile for about a month at most then he began range of motion exercises. he was limited in offseason and preseason but was healthy for regular season since he was playing special teams. he did not have a rotator cuff tear which involves muscle tears.
Labrum is a cartilage injury. If he was still limited in any way at beginning of season Im pretty damn sure we would not have played him at all since that would be stupid. No excuses he cheated and he knew what he was doing

A little overblown? people act like he is a shutdown pass defender based on very limited snaps doing this.

there's no reason that jordan worst case couldn't be for us what jamie collins is for new england...and collins is a stud in the making...the only thing that plays against him in that type of role worst case scenario would be jordans height...6 ft 7 is awfully tall for leverage plays at lb

not that miami is gonna ask him to be a jamie collins...the weight gain this offseason pretty much told you the lb stuff for now at least is out and all the trade talk with philly was bs...you don't add weight to his frame to play a 34 olb...not 17 lbs anyways

at any rate whatever jordan was worth this last offseason has dropped right now with this 4 game suspension and one more strike and you are out for a year stuff and i doubt miami would get any more good return if we did put him on the block...barring a major sack production season in 12 games when he returns in which case miami wouldn't trade him in the first place
