Sorry. I don't buy that. Pun not intended. If players are smart with their money when they are playing they will have more than enough when they are done. Problem is the majority seem to think they have to buy every expensive thing out there.

Don't get me wrong, I'd probably be just as dumb with my money at that age too. Still, to charge what is essentially a paycheck and a half for the average person for something as trivial as a tweet is nothing short of Highway robbery. Not only that but you have no guarantee that they will show up or even treat you like a human being if you buy something more than a tweet.

Then don't buy it. Supply and demand sets the price. People have been buying "private time" with athletes since rich Roman women started paying to **** Gladiators.

And you're wrong about the money these guys make. After taxes and agents fees, that rookie deal isn't as much as you'd think. Not for a whole lifetime. Even a middling second deal can leave things tight. I realize a lot of people don't have much sympathy for the broken down athlete or the guy who doesn't make it, but to me it's still a sad situation. These guys work their whole lives and some of them just don't make it... like actors who end up waiting tables into their 50s.

You can have Hartline tweet to you for $500, want a dinner date with Kim Bokamper? It will only cost you a $1,000. How about taking John Offerdahl to a Dolphins game with you? You all do realize we live in a capitalist society right.I for one think people should be able to spend their money on whatever they want. Morality is not an excuse to decide what other people do with their money. If you didn't earn the money you should have no choice in how it is spent.

It's interesting to see the players who become successful businessmen in their life after football. Hartline already has 2 convenience store businesses in Columbus, Ohio and he works his a$$ off in them in the off season. Football has set him up but he is clearly eager for a lot more. Even with the appearance fee stuff, he is displaying the mindset that he is open to market himself and he has a great personality. Tomorrow evening he is the guest speaker at a Dolphin event to promote season ticket sales. It would be easy for Hartline to say that he doesn't feel like talking, but he is in the process of preparing himself for his post football career and this is a marketing opportunity. He knows exactly what he is doing and I expect that he will be very successful.
I was surprised that Nolan Carroll is available to do anything for a price. I watch all of the player interviews on the Finsiders and Nolan was always quite introverted. He is intelligent and always answered the questions sensibly. I'm reminded that his mother was a former Florida Lieutenant Governor as a Republican and both his parents were career military. Nolan will be missed here in Miami, but I don't know if he's worth paying $2000 to attend your wife's birthday or son's bar mitzvah. I recall Nolan was a very big participant in the community service work here in Miami. Lots of the players get into it, with Brandon Field and Ryan Tannehill both extremely active. They do great work and it is also great preparation for life post football.

Then you are either extremely wealthy to think throwing away money like that a good idea or really high.

You realize the amount you're paying to do these things with them is chump change to them? A thousand dollars here or there toward a worthy charity would be money much better spent. Not lining their already fat wallets.

I would never pay money to hang out with an athlete. But it doesn't bother me in the slightest that someone else would pay money to hang out with an athlete. It certainly doesn't bother me that an athlete would take some idiot's money in exchange for following them on Twitter for a week or something.

Think about it this way. You're Brian Hartline. Some dude offers you 500 dollars to follow him on Twitter. I don't use Twitter, so I'm really not sure why anyone would even give a ****, but apparently this is something people care about. Would you turn that money down? I wouldn't. I don't know what Brian Hartline is going to do with that money (other than giving about $175.00 of it to the Federal Government), but it can't be any worse than what the idiot paying for the service is doing with it.

I'm old-fashioned. I believe people have a right to make money, even if they're taking that money from idiots who are spending their money stupidly. In this case, the people who are spending their money on this crap know exactly what they are getting. If you want to talk about something that's degenerate and unethical, how about the sportsbook industry? Sure, a lot of the people who place bets know what they're doing and do so responsibly, but how about that turd who posted that he bet $1,000.00 on the Dolphins -- on a whim -- even though his family couldn't afford it? I didn't see much outrage over the fact that Vegas sportsbooks are a bunch of scumbags in that thread.
