Report: Dolphins players may have harassed team staffer

Then you are creating a society in which the person being bullied has no responsibility in stopping the harassment.

Or maybe we're creating a society where people have to stop and think before acting like sophomoric raging d-bags.

You are correct but some people don't understand that society has changed and it is no longer acceptable behavior. It may even have been done innocently and quite humorous but in the same way that certain words used to be used by many are no longer acceptable. In simple terms, it is no longer acceptable to subject any persons of different ethnicity or persons with different sexual preferences or persons with disabilities, etc to be ridiculed. You may prefer it the way it was 20 years ago, but times have changed.
The people who are now in trouble are those who observed the ridicule by Incognito and buddy but did not report it, or if they did, those who did nothing about it. It doesn't matter if it was meant to be funny and boys just being boys, the rules of the game have changed and unfortunately, the Miami Dolphins happens to be in the spotlight. Every team GM is probably saying - "there but for the grace of god, goes us..."

Yep. Every team in the league right now is glad that:

A) They weren't the crew that took a chance on Richie.
B) They weren't the crew that drafted Jon Martin.

People will be people....sometimes people are jerks. Doesn't mean you deserve a paycheck when someone's an ass to you.

The society is already created....can't sue dock workers for using the F-word....esp when it's the occupation you've chosen.

Martin is a snake.

He should have handled this within the context of the organization. Instead he is attempting and eventually destroy the lives of people and their families within this organization. I suppose he would consider it collateral damage.

No need to wait until the facts come out on this end, eh? If the media reports support your assessment, they're unquestioningly reliable. Anything that points the other way is either unreliable or we have to "wait for the facts to come out." There's a word for that, ya know?

And sometimes those people get fired for their behavior. It happens all the time. And it happens in sports as well.

Strawman argument. No one is in trouble in this situation for using the f-word.
And by the way, society evolves. Society is not stagnant.

Actually, we kinda do.

Just like I think the people defending Richie to the death here are ridiculous, I think that by lionizing Jon Martin you are being equally ridiculous.

Not a Martin apologist by any stretch, and I'll be the first to admit he could've handled things much differently. But for some to sit here and act as if Richie is some sort of saint and put ridiculous graphics in my signature supporting him, I can't. I'll label Martin a martyr before I label Richie anything other than a moron.

I guess you aren't familiar with comparisons.....If Martin was in a situation where the coaching staff wanted him "toughened up"....he cannot sue for being pushed to perform better by a coach. Using naughty words shouldn't earn a puss money because he has intelligent parents who know how to abuse the workplace environment angle to make money.

The strawman argument is this case to begin with...not with my little metaphor.

No one here said Richie is a saint. But from what we all heard, nothing is warranted quitting your job for and expect to continue getting paid. Otherwise, this would happen every day in every work place.

It's a strawman because you took one little part of what Incognito did and pretended he was being held to the fire for that. He didn't get suspended for cursing. But let's use your dock workers and set up a more comparable metaphor. Suppose a dock worker was calling up one of his fellow workers and harassing them by phone when working hours were over and was extorting money from that fellow worker on a regular basis. You think that guy is going to have a job for very long once it's found out what he's been up to?

I think we should all be on the lookout for analyses that are emotionally satisfying... be it blaming either guy entirely or blaming them both equally. A three viewpoints are simplistic, imo.

At this point Incognito/Martin really only seems to be the tip of a much larger and more involved iceberg. I think we're dealing with Martin (and a few people) versus a lot of people. That seems to be the way this is tracking. I sure find it hard to believe Martin told Ted Wells seven hours just of Incognito stories. In fact what seems to have come out of that is that he didn't just want to single out Incognito at all. That there was a larger culture, a larger standard of behavior, that he objected to.

This is spot on.
There is way to many people hanging on to conclusions that either fit their worldview or are the least damaging to Miami.
I find it really amusing when prominent posters on this message board that they have this whole situation figured out based on what is likely 1-5% of the evidence. Especially when the conclusion is Martin is the villain.

I agree with you that the reality of this situation is probably much more murky. Not necessarily in any nefarious sense just that everyone will end up being losers in this. Martin, Fins, and Incognito.
That being said I believe that Martin will be the least culpable in all this.

He has been suspended and abused in the media for the voicemail....that made the threat and said the "n-word". Now we hear that Martin made similar calls and texts.

If the conversation went back and forth with said language....there is nothing wrong with it at all. It was the environment they were a part of that BOTH contributed to. This was all supposed to stay in house, not for Barbara Walters to read the transcript. You can't get upset for a threat, when there were threats made on your end. In all honesty the guy would absolutely keep his job, unless both would be fired. In fact, that is part of Incog's case I'm sure, and part of the reason we don't hear Martin's parents on a soapbox.

We'll have to wait for the report to see, won't we?

I think some of the people quick to accuse other posters of being simpletons are likewise blinded by their own prejudices and worldview.
