Report: Shanahan Wanted Tannehill, Not RGIII

Shanahan here??? We'd be stuck with his son too...haven't we now learned our lesson about the pitfalls of nepotism?

Tannehill only "sucks" because we have no O-line. No pass protection = sacks, no time to throw long....it also means no running game, so the secondary is always tricking him into ****ty throws. He has to throw like 30-40 passes a game now days, so he is bound to screw up some of those.

My only complaint is that he doesn't know when to scramble....he just sits back and watches the pocket collapse and makes no effort to move.

I'd be torn on that one. On one hand, I think he could turn Tannehill into a great QB. We would have a fun offense.

On the other hand, Mike Shanahan.

I hear you, but Shanahan has two rings as a head coach, Philbin has none. As an aside, I was at Shanahan's house for Thanksgiving a few years ago, both he and his son challenged me to a drinking contest...they can drink like a mother****er and I'm no lightweight I PROMISE you

Tannehill is a perfect fit for a Mike Shanahan offense.

man youre really gonna throw troy aikman into the mix? aikman was one of the most accurate passers ever and dallas went from 1-15 to 7-9 to 11-5 to the rest is history...i really dont know why you would compare aikman to tannehill, but whatever you write...

I don't know if Mike Shanahan could survive South Florida. He's already got a nuclear tan, I can't imagine how red and crispy he'd be down here.

On the plus side he and his son did a great coaching job last year... really got the most you can get out of a middling talent in Griffin. His problem has always been defense. Even those great Broncos teams were mediocre defensive teams. Then the Cutler era Broncos couldn't win because they were abysmal on defense. And the trend has continued in Washington.

My bigger issue is with Kyle Shanahan, personally. He loved John Beck in college. Loved him. Here's a quote from a MMQB story:

"My first year as a position coach in the league, Houston had me scout all the quarterbacks coming out that year," Kyle Shanahan said. "That was the JaMarcus Russell year, with Brady Quinn, Trent Edwards, Kevin Kolb and Beck. So they asked me who I'd pick if I had the 10th pick in the draft. I told them Beck. They said he's not worth the 10th pick in the draft. I was standing on the table for him. I've never seen a guy play that well in college."

Deal breaker. An absolute deal breaker. And it's not like he just missed on him and learned his lesson once he looked at the tape. He had Washington trade for Beck and then started him in actual games.

This isnt the first time this report has popped up.

Right after the draft it was leaked that Shanahan would have taken Tannehill as a "fall back" at 6. I cant recall if that report was disputed or not, but i suppose this is confirmation of a sort.

As others have said, Tannehill would have been a perfect fit for Shanahan's WCO. I suppose we should be thankful that they traded up.

Plenty of people liked Beck. In all seriousness, Shanahan would be an intriguing option if Philbin is fired, assuming this story is true (and I believe it).

If Snyder is the one that told him to trade the damn farm then lol. Glad we have Ross. Come on a 1st and 2nd and 2 more 1st.... that is just insane.

As I added to the post, he didn't just like him, look at the tape, and realize he was wrong. He had his dad trade for Beck and then started him in actual football games that counted.

And the 10th overall pick? For real? For an overaged quarterback coming from an Air-Raid style offense? Asinine. Your offensive coordinator has to be smarter than that.

Well the good news is we already have a QB who isn't John Beck and who in fact, I think can be pretty good.

You brought up Tannys won loss record as " the bottom line"....not me.

ill apologize when we make the playoffs this year then win 3 out of the next 4 super bowls. until then i just go by what im seeing- tannehill is a mediocre average qb whose career stats so far are eerily very similiar to chad henne, remeber him? cause most of the people on here were saying the same crap about henne that theyre saying about tannehill. stop making excuses for this guy already!
