...You know what??? ALL THIS CRAP IS MOOT POINT. RICKY IS NOT COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!
We're talking about reality here. You may really not want to see Ricky Williams come back, but basically all signs point to Saban wanting him to return, and rumor has it Ricky does too. Look at todays news, for example. Did you notice Jim Brown, one of the guys that influenced Ricky's retirement in the first place has said that he thinks Ricky could return and Saban is doing the right things for it?
If Ricky returns, the impact will be more then just splitting carries. For those of you suggesting Ricky would be purely a backup...Fat chance. During the initial rookie training camp, which Saban spent
teaching players what he wants them to know, Ronnie Brown ended up playing at Fullback, H-Back, and Reciever along with Runningback. Saban probabaly was not doing that just out of boredom, and formations involving Fullbacks and H-Backs without a Running back are not exactly common.
There are so many advantages to using them both. For one, who knows if Ronnie Brown can hold up to a full season? If he stays healthy, how do you know he wont tire out as the season goes on? That is a significant problem with rookie players, as they are playing 4 extra games, and the potential for more. Ronnie Brown hasnt had to work with a full college load, much less a full NFL load. Having another back to help lighten the load would be good.
The matchups it presents are pretty damned appealing, too. If he really has the hands he is cracked up to have, he could be a frustrating thing to deal with lined up at FB or WR.
At reciever, he has more then adequate speed. 4.4-4.5 speed is pretty good. He probabaly isnt going to be very easy to jam at the line either, considering he is a power runner and a good blocker.
There arent many linebackers who can stay with someone who runs as fast as Ronnie does. Coming out of the backfield, teams dont really have a great opportunity to hit him or slow him down.
