enigmatics said:How does "moving foward" translate into "I want to be even better?" Did you not read his comments????? The man openly admits not expecting to get to the level he was at.
TheMageGandalf said:Because he said he's trying to go forward and not backwards.
He's basically telling you that he wants a clean slate, forgetting the past and just going from this point on as if he was starting over.
He's right. He's not the number one guy right now. He must prove himself all over again to everyone.
He isn't the type of guy to make flamboyant promises of greatness either so I dont know why your surprised that you ddint get a Bill Romanowski I'm going to crush everyone in my path type comment.

Patient: "Doc, what's my problem?"
Me: "You are F'n crazy, now when do I operate?"

P.S. Physician heal thyself.
enigmatics said:...........most of you know that I completely disagree with having him on the Phins..........and perhaps I'm knit-picking a tad here, but Ricky's latest comments irk me.
I think it's great the man doesn't want to look back. That's fine, who legitimately wants to constantly be stuck in the rut of the past. Yet some of us have been questioning the man's heart and desire since he decided he wanted back. He's not really commented up to this point what he is set out to do now that he's back other than really general statements that most football players make........until now. The whole "I don't expect to get back to where I was a few years ago," just doesn't sound kosher to me.
A guy with passion to play again, would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate. Ricky's comments, to me, translate into "Ya I'm back, I don't want to be bugged about the past, just let me play no matter the result." Doesn't sound like lofty goals to me.
Anybody else get that impression?
I think this point and the original point are both on-target. The quandary for Ricky is that the better he is at football, the more he's in the social spotlight, which of course is uncomfortable for him. The thing I see in his quote is that he isn't dealing with issues that probably stem from his past. The most common defense against dealing with past issues is to think that by doing so one is in a "rut" or "stuck in the past." You can deal with the past without getting stuck in it, and in fact, if you DON'T deal with the past then you become "stuck" in the present BY your past. Your past limits what you can do in the present and future until you deal with it and resolve it. He looks like a person to me who doesn't want to feel the pain from his past -- he wants to numb himself to that and "live in the moment." What he doesn't understand is that the type of "living" he does "in the moment" will always be regulated by how much past pain he's numbing himself to.KB21 said:I think that's been one of Ricky's issues with football anyway. He has always tried to stay out of the spotlight. I took his comments to mean that he just wants to blend in with the team as opposed to being the star. He can be criticized for a lot of things, but I think this may be an empty criticism of him. He doesn't desire to be the star of the team, and he never really has desired to be the star of the team.

That interview sounded like someone fresh out of a 12 step program. Focusing on himself and what he can do now. Hes right to blow off all these media types trying to get him to commit to somekind of expectation or goal. The only thing he can control his himself and that means getting up tommorow and going to work, everything else will take care of itself. This is completely different than the "iwant to please everyone" Ricky. Good on him
