Rishard Matthews NV WR in the 7th

I love reading the positives and negatives of players like him. Some of the "opinion" on both ends completely contradict the other.

I was thinking the same thing:

GOOD: field and boundary awareness. Makes himself available to the quarterback. Strong after the catch. Returns punts. ...
NEGATIVE: needs to learn how to sell patterns and get in/out of breaks more efficiently. Limited creativity after the catch ...

Soooo ......? He's good after the catch but not creative? Who cares? That's better than bad after the catch but very creative....

He should be a solid receiver after some polishing by our staff

Positives
-- Highly productive receiver who posted 91 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior... Has a nice build and an NFL body for a receiver, has the height and frame to shield defenders from the ball... Good at alternating speeds and is a crafty player, finds ways to get open...Strong upper body, posted 20 reps of 225 pounds at the combine... Reliable hands, does a good job of catching the ball away from his body... Had some massive games including two games with over 200 yards receiving... At his best when the ball is in his hands, can take end arounds and reverses, had ten carries over the past two years... Big play threat with five plays over 50 yards as a senior and averaged over 15 yards per catch over his career... Junior college transfer but stayed with his high school class, is only 22 years old... Terrific return man, has returned both punts and kicks, displays good vision in the open field... Can lineup outside and in the slot... Ran much better at his pro day than he did at the combine... Matthews' versatility is a major plus; he can play all over the field and help on special teams.

Negatives -- Missed the 2011 Hawaii Bowl with a knee injury he suffered three weeks earlier and missed the Senior Bowl with the same injury... Level of competition will be questioned after playing at the junior college level for two years and then in the WAC for his final two years... Played in a gimmicky pistol offense that got him open a lot and he hasn't run a full route tree... Still developing as a route runner, will round off his cuts... Doesn't appear to have a second gear to torch a defense.

Hopefully he can be as good as another UNR grad, Nate Burelson.

Is it wrong to believe the 'negatives' more than the 'positives' on each player after the 3rd round? BJ Cunningham has little leaping ability and ran a 40 time that would make most TEs cringe and Mathews has had his general athletic ability questioned. What's sad is that if we tried to trade any of our current WRS, from Hartline to Bess, we'd get nothing but a 5th round pick for them.

This has been a bad offseason in terms of affecting the 2012 season. The outcome of 2013 is no less in doubt than it was Thursday a.m. I'm not saying it won't be on the uptick, but there's no real evidence to suggest we will be.

Don't mind me, the Bulls coach just wrecked my team's postseason and probably next season too (ACLs usually take 2 years to totally come back from). I'm pretty bitter right now.

Wow, the draft process never ceases to amaze me. How does this guy slide so far? and WTH did we draft BJ before him.

BJ will have about as much chance of getting open in the NFL as Patrick Turner.

let's hope for the best. I like the idea of doubling down on wide receivers. nothing we have forces defenses to gameplan for an individual receiver

Patrick Turner? *shudder*

Derek Hagan, Patrick Turner...too many wasted picks to count

All the crybabies who were saying we have the worst receivers in the NFL should now zip it. :brewskis:

And all posters who think we are set at wide receiver without
any of our draft picks yet to play 1 offensive snap in the NFL should zip it>

LET THINGS PLAY OUT BEFORE WE DECIDE EITHER WAY

these 2 wr's after evrything i have been reading and seeing on youtube seem really sound like some really good and solid picks irealnd i think had another really darn good draft this year..

damn 20 bench press reps, sounds like he should have some strength to throw off a db if he makes team and a catch. I think our 2nd round future starting RT only had 20
